There aren’t many political mysteries from 2016 that still have the power to set the internet on fire like the unsolved murder of DNC staffer Seth Rich. The official theory is that the 27-year-old was shot near his D.C. home during a botched robbery. His family has rejected all claims that he was somehow connected to WikiLeaks or murdered because of his work at the DNC, and they’ve asked people not to politicize their son’s death.
But the questions never went away, mostly because so many details surrounding the case are
But then Julian Assange entered the chat, and things got a lot more curious…

On Monday, the Roberts Court struck a massive blow against the administrative state when, in a majority opinion drafted by the chief justice, the court affirmed in Trump v. Slaughter that “the President may remove his subordinates” within so-called independent agencies “at will.”
It should have been a given that in agencies subject to executive control and exercising executive authority by way of executive-appointed principals, the executive would be free not only to hire but to fire such principals — that “independent agencies are not ‘independent’ in the sense that they are free of the President,” as the court declared. But for more than 90 years, precedent in Humphrey’s Executor shielded

PARIS—A French appeals court on July 7 upheld the embezzlement conviction of National Rally figurehead Marine Le Pen while reducing the penalty that had threatened to bar her from next year’s presidential race, leaving open the prospect that she can run in 2027.
The Paris Court of Appeal sentenced Le Pen to three years in prison, one of them to be served under an electronic tag, and to 15 months of firm ineligibility. That marks a reduction from the sentence handed down on March 31, 2025, when a criminal court imposed a four-year prison term, a 100,000-euro fine, and a five-year ban from public office with immediate effect.

A Midtown high-rise was evacuated Tuesday morning after massive beams inside the under-construction building started buckling — sending some floors caving in and bricks raining down under the crushing strain.
The 38-story commercial building at 235 East 42nd Street was cleared around 8:11 a.m. after construction workers spotted two faulty support beams bending and starting to give way on the 21st and 22nd floors, according to the NYPD and FDNY.
Fire officials said floors between the 21st and 26th floors were sagging from the pressure.

Right about the time Drudge Report splashed a link to Jonathan Chait's latest column across its homepage, I got a g-chat from a Democratic strategist: "This is a big deal," he wrote. "My gut tells me it elevates this story to something bigger and more needing of her response. I think this might take away the chance of this ordeal being seen as a partisan witch hunt."
The story in question is, of course, the revelation that Clinton Foundation donations and Clinton family speaking fees may have influenced Hillary Clinton's actions as Secretary of State -- which, if true, would be an extraordinary conflict of interest. In the last 24 hours,

FACT: It has been over 60-years since Canada purchased a submarine. FACT: Canada has never built one. FACT: Currently the Canadian military have ONE operable submarine out of a fleet of four used ones previously purchased. FACT: Canada recently proclaimed themselves as the North American defender of the Arctic.
Now, put all those facts in the overlay of the December 2024 meeting in Mar-a-Lago between President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. President Trump was demanding that Trudeau increase their NATO spending and develop a working Canadian military.

Both Toyota and Honda had previously warned the Canadian government that without the USMCA they would shift production from Canada to the U.S. to avoid tariffs and secure long-term manufacturing stability. We presume a similar message was conveyed to MexicoEarlier today Toyota announced they were moving half of their Tacoma Truck production from Mexico to an expanded facility in Texas that will now encompass 5 million square feet in San Antonio.
(Bloomberg) — Toyota Motor Corp. is moving production of its popular Tacoma midsize truck from a plant in Mexico to San Antonio as part of a $3.6 billion investment in the Texas facility.

The controversial group Patriot Front always picks very high-profile moments to crawl out from under its rock and make a big splash. You hardly see these masked guys any other time of the year, but when a big event is underway, you can always count on them showing up and giving the mainstream media the headlines it needs to remind the country, and the world, how “systemically racist” America is and how dangerous “white men” are to precious democracy. This is just one of the reasons why so many people believe Patriot Front is an “SPLC-style” stunt. It feels very well-timed and performative, and as you likely know, it’s been proven

PROVO — Nearly 10 months after Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on the campus of Utah Valley University, a preliminary hearing for the alleged gunman, Tyler Robinson, is scheduled to begin Monday.
Erika Kirk, Charlie’s widow, and Kirk’s parents, Robert and Kathryn Kirk, are expected to attend the week-long hearing, marking the first time they have been in the courtroom for any of Robinson’s legal proceedings.
Robinson faces 10 charges in 4th District Court, the most serious being aggravated murder, a capital offense. The Utah County Attorney’s Office says it will seek the death penalty if Robinson is convicted on that charge.

Like him or despise him, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani is a good politician. He’s young, charismatic, and has a high-wattage smile. This is why after passing a $126 billion “balanced” city budget, he can get away with saying things such as, “Socialists just solved years of Capitalist mismanagement.” He elaborated further on this theme:
Throughout this process I have been reminded of the words of the Austrian economist, Friedrich Hayek, ‘if socialists understood economics, they wouldn’t be socialists,’” said Mr. Mamdani,(snip)
Being that this is a pretty arrogant statement, it’s worth asking what, exactly, has Mamdani done that would allow him to pretend that passing a budget —

The Roberts Court just handed down a majority birthplace citizenship decision on the legal level of Dred Scott and Roe v. Wade. No judge who calls himself an originalist, textualist, or in any way claims dedication to American rule of law could support the 5-4 majority in Trump v. Barbara.
As the dissents and much other scholarly work show plainly and definitively, the 14th Amendment simply does not say that anyone who happens to be born on U.S. soil thereby magically becomes a U.S. citizen. “Subject to the jurisdiction thereof” means “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” It’s not legally or verbally complicated.

Casual sports observers often wonder why the sport of Soccer has never been successful in the United States. This story is a big picture example of exactly whyThe country of Belgium is filing an appeal with FIFA World Cup organizers to stop the United States from playing the game of soccer with their best players. You just cannot make this stuff up, folks.
Only in the sport of EU soccer can a bureaucratic agency file a parliamentary objection with the intent to force the official bureaucratic agents of the soccer administration, FIFA, to block a team from fielding their best players – because the business of the bureaucracy is more important
