As we move into this great weekend, a weekend that should be devoted to patriotic celebrations, fireworks, burgers on the grill and cold beers in the cooler, many of our major urban areas are instead having to worry about another wave of what's being euphemistically called "teen takeovers," or, in other words, riots, in which packs of feral youths invade the city streets, leaving destruction and mayhem in their wake. The cities affected are making an effort now to head these events off with a combination of technology and curfews. Will it work? That remains to be seen.

Two people are dead after a shooting at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn Friday afternoon.
What they're saying:
Police say they were called to the mall at 1:25 p.m. They say the shooting happened after a fight escalated.
Officials confirmed with FOX 2 that three people were shot at the chaotic scene inside. Two of the three had died, one at the mall and one at the hospital. [snip]
An image of the alleged gunman was released during the incident. The suspect has not yet been found or arrested at this time. Meanwhile, police say this was an isolated incident and a motive is unknown at this time.

The two teen suspects wanted in the murder of Penn State student Billy Schmidt have been taken into custody.
22-year-old Billy Schmidt was studying journalism at Penn State and was set to graduate this December.
Schmidt was killed last month as he was returning home from an NBA Finals watch party at a bar when the two armed suspects fatally shot him.
The suspects, identified as 16-year-old Azzubair Outen-Fleming and Kaiseem Smith, 16, shot Schmidt in the chest in an attempted robbery ambush.
Azzubair Outen-Fleming was arrested in Colorado on Friday.
Kaiseem Smith turned himself in to the Philadelphia police.

Homeowners in a southern California neighborhood were outraged Monday after their local Homeowners Association demanded they take down their American flag as Americans nationwide prepare to celebrate the nation's 250th birthday.
Three homeowners in San Marcos, identified as Terri Collins, Amy Cooke and Chris Cooke, said their HOA warned them that they could face a $100 fine if they continued flying American flags outside their homes.

Details of the alleged vandalism to the recently refurbished Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. were revealed in a court filing.
According to Deputy Director for the National Park Service Frank Lands, the incident took place shortly after the resurfaced pool was filled again with water on June 9, ABC News reported.
"The U.S. Park Police responded to an NPS report of damage to the reflecting pool, including a caulk over the foam sealant that was cut with a sharp knife or razor and destruction of delaminating surface material. In addition, approximately 70 fence post tops were thrown into the pool," Lands said in a declaration.

A Somalian flag that was raised outside of Buffalo’s City Hall to commemorate Somali Independence Day was stolen in an overnight heist, the city’s leftist mayor decried.
“The City of Buffalo’s flagpole in Niagara Square sustained damage after unknown vandals broke the access panel, cut the cable, and removed the Somali flag during the overnight hours of Wednesday, July 1,” Mayor Sean Ryan wrote on Facebook.
Ryan said the Buffalo Police Department was investigating the alleged vandalism after the city approved non-profit HEAL International to raise the white star, blue flag on July 1.
