Overseas visitors to 11 of America’s most popular national parks will need to pay an extra $100 per person to get in starting Jan. 1, the Interior Department announced Tuesday in a bid to make up for lost income from the recent government shutdown, as well as severe budget cuts. Foreigners also will be left out of eight so-called “fee-free days” that correspond to patriotic holidays — including President’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4 weekend, and Veteran’s Day. As part of the changes, foreign tourists will also see their annual parks pass price jump to $250, while US residents will continue to be charged $80. The $100 surcharge will be

How does one enforce this? Does this mean all citizens will have to carry proof that they are citizens when visiting national parks? What a ridiculous bureaucracy will be needed to verify this.. we can’t get people to carry proof when voting and we think we are going to do this when visiting parks …. What a dumb idea…

I dont like being charged fees to enter government owned parks in the first place. We are already taxed quite heavily to support them. Why are we paying twice? Plus the infrastructure needed to charge the money, track it, bank it, audit it and enforce collection of it may well cost more than is generated.

I go to the National Parks regularly, and over the last 15 years or more, the number of moving crowds chasing a guide with a little flag, often all wearing the same hats or shirts, and jabbering loudly in Chinese or some other grating to hear language has become really annoying. I go to a National Park to walk in quiet, and stay away from crowds. These noisy guided tour groups, who apparently feel that them all crowding and pushing up to the front of some sight is right or at least their normal behavior. Politeness isn't a thing with these people. If fewer of these big, annoying tour groups from overseas show up, I'll be happy. And you never see this with European tourists, no groups, no annoying guide jabbering loudly. I've met people from around the world in the parks, from New Zealand to Europe....but single tourists, acting politely and quietly. It's interesting to talk to them. My wife and I have traveled all over Europe, India and the former soviet states, and South Africa without guides or crowds. We work to understand and speak enough to get along, and to be unobtrusive visitors in someone else's country while we enjoy the sights. If this fee increase drives down these big foreign tour groups, it will be a good thing. And their huge buses often block the parking lots and roads, too. PITA all the way around.

re #3, yes, reduced attendance will be a HUGE plus. In the big parks the foreign tour groups have become a real PAIN. And if you don't get a reservation for a room or a camping place a year or two in advance, forget it.

This is hardly a big deal: (1)The per-person surcharges apply to only a handful of the 63 National Parks in the United States. (2) The annual parks pass is per vehicle or persons without a vehicle and covers entrance to tourist attractions run by several other Federal agencies, not just the UPS. (3) These fees pale in comparison to the cost of a day at Disneyland for even a single adult, let alone a couple with children. For more information see https://home.nps.gov .

Attendance will not decline. My son knows that Glacier National Park employees have to cut off reservations by February or March every year because numbers get too large. They now take so many Park reservations and that’s it.

Democratic Tennessee congressional candidate Aftyn Behn said in resurfaced audio that lawmakers openly praying during legislative sessions make her “uncomfortable.” While appearing on the “Red State Blue Moon” podcast in June 2024, Behn complained that the Tennessee Legislature opens up with prayer at the beginning of each legislative session. She further complained that Christian pastors and prayer groups have “proximity to power” in the Legislature and that religion is often at the center of the state’s politics. “And I think, especially as someone who is more secular, I have a hard time when religion is at the core of everything we do in the Legislature. New Jersey governor-elect Mikie Sherrill (D.) turned to former energy secretary Jennifer Granholm, an architect of Biden-era green energy policies—which polls show are unpopular with Garden State voters—to co-chair her transition team’s energy task force. The governor-elect’s energy team is a quasi-reunion of Biden administration alumni—in addition to Granholm, former Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) member Allison Clements will serve as its other co-chair. It’s a signal that although Sherrill ran to the middle on energy issues during her gubernatorial campaign, she is prepared to govern as a climate hawk. President Trump unveiled the next phase in his revitalization of the nation’s capital, aimed, he said, at erasing former President Joe Biden’s “filth and incompetence.” “This is the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool before Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and I fix it,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Wednesday alongside a video set to Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye.” “Study it hard because you won’t be seeing this Biden filth and incompetence much longer!” he wrote. The 29-second video featured footage of workers draining water from the famed national landmark close to the White House and clearing green algae that had collected on the sides.

In November 2021, just as former President Joe Biden’s administration was importing thousands of Afghan nationals to the United States every week, then-Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitted that “not all” Afghans were being vetted with “in-person, refugee interviews,” an admission that shocked members of Congress. On Wednesday, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal of Afghanistan left two National Guardsmen in critical condition after he allegedly opened fire on them while shouting “Allahu Akbar,” law enforcement officials say. Lakanwal arrived in the U.S. in 2021 as part of Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome, carried out by Mayorkas at the time, which ultimately resettled tens of thousands of Afghans in American communities.

The Trump administration announced it will pursue a “full-scale, rigorous reexamination” of every green card holder from countries “of concern” in response to the shooting of two National Guard troops in Washington, DC. US Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Joseph Edlow claimed President Trump had requested the gargantuan review, which is expected to encompass green card holders from at least 19 countries. National Guard shooting suspect Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, had entered the US in 2021 from Afghanistan in the aftermath of the Biden administration’s disastrous withdrawal as part of the “Operation Allies Welcome” program. “The protection of this country and of the American people remains paramount, and the American people will not bear

Old video clips of Vice President JD Vance have resurfaced across social media following a horrific terror attack linked to an Afghan refugee on Wednesday— and for good reason. They provide an illuminating light following a violent strike on two National Guard members serving in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. Both National Guardsmen remain in critical condition as of the latest reporting, after being ambushed by a gunman identified as 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal. Lakanwal, according to CNN, entered the United States on a temporary visa issued to him in 2021 under Operation Allies Welcome, a program designed to coordinate the evacuation, processing, and resettlement of vulnerable Afghan nationals

Neighbors said the refugees — who arrived in 2021 after the chaotic US pullout from Afghanistan — had no beds, and there were only “some couch cushions
