Happy Independence Day, NPR

The Senate voted this morning to claw back $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides funding for NPR, PBS, and local stations. Pending final approval in the House, the federal government will, after more than half a century, no longer be in the business of supporting NPR. The vote is a victory for Republicans who have long had National Public Radio (NPR) in their sights. But it is also a victory for those of any political stripe who believe the government has no business funding the media.

CBP is a well funded organization. As an American taxpayer, I demand they pay US back at least 50% of our hard earned money that they've squandered pushing a marxist agenda over the decades. Somebody also needs to take a look at where 90% of their "non-taxpayer" funds come from. I'll bet you my house, they're getting more of our money from other grifter sources. And I'm not talking about donations. Leftists are not charitable with their own money.

If they had just stuck to their original purpose of airing fair, desirable programs..British mysteries, straight documentaries etc. and other programs that regular networks don't produce, they would have been OK. Instead, they became a sly mouthpiece for the left. The corporate media has the right to broadcast what they want, opinionated or not, but the taxpayer doesn't need to pay for one-sided and biased programming.

"the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides funding for NPR, PBS, and local stations." My understanding from hearing Congressional testimony, is that NPR/PBS does provide money to local stations..... and then they claw it back by charging those same local stations for the National Propaganda Radio programming. All the money winds up back in NPR/PBS's pocket.

"Sesame Street" was a beloved favorite of daily viewing when my children were very young in the early '80s. The educational and entertainment value were tremendous and the production value was off-the-charts. But even back then I questioned the stated need for "fundraising" on the network. Every trip to Toys 'R Us reinforced my feeling that the desperate pleas for donations (especially during the PBS fundraising marathons) were not honest. Big Bird and his various fuzzy friends seemed to occupy a half-acre of the store where their toys, games, books, recordings, and clothing flooded the shelves. Big Bird could have fully funded "Sesame Street" just from those sales.

That always sounds good, #2-- 'if they were only fair and unbiased.' But that's really not the point. Nowhere in the Constitution is there authorization to fund institutions such as NPR/PBS. Nor is there any reason to--- and as anyone who knows human nature can predict, such organizations would always end up leaning unfairly in one direction or the other.

Whistleblower Shatters Official Russia
Hoax Story

In a stunning firsthand account, a whistleblower has exposed how senior intelligence officials under Barack Obama manipulated analysis, silenced dissent, and strong-armed subordinates to produce a politically loaded assessment linking Donald Trump to Russian election interference. According to the whistleblower, senior intelligence officials, including then-DNI James Clapper and CIA Director John Brennan, pressured analysts to endorse conclusions they didn’t agree with and marginalized anyone who raised objections. The now-infamous January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment, the whistleblower says, was crafted to match a predetermined political narrative: that Russia interfered in the 2016 election specifically to help Donald Trump.

ust got back from Salt Lake, where I took my kids to Wheeler Farm in Murray, Utah. Originally homesteaded in the late 1800s, the 75-acre property was preserved and turned over to Salt Lake County in 1969. It was jarring, in the best way, to see a public space so well-run. Admission is free. Kids walk right up to cows, goats, sheep, and chickens. They climb on old tractors, go on wagon rides (for $3), and race through open fields. After a busy morning, we bought $2 Uncrustables and $1.50 Popsicles from the gift shop and sat for lunch.

This week, Keir Starmer and Donald Trump met at the US President’s golf resort in Turnberry, Scotland. During the televised discussion, a squirming Starmer was put in his place several times by the President’s forthright comments on a number of subjects, including the closure of North Sea oil and gas operations and free speech. Most notably, Trump called wind power a “scam”, which was no longer welcome in the USA. Like a scene from The Office, it was as uncomfortable to watch as it must have been for Starmer, who, in the face of the onslaught, looked for all the world like a David Brent figure.

In March, we cheered the news that Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin planned to “reconsider” the Obama EPA’s 2009 “Endangerment Finding.” That finding allowed the EPA to regulate fossil fuel emissions under the Clean Air Act. On Tuesday, Zeldin announced that the EPA intends to rescind the finding, a step he described as “the largest deregulatory action in the history of the United States.” This strikes a major blow against intrusive regulation of the energy, automotive, and manufacturing sectors. The Clean Air Act, passed in 1970, provides that the EPA administrator “shall by regulation prescribe . . . standards applicable to the emission of any air pollutant”

I picked these titles at random from the popular YouTube channel of Charlie Moore, a former Detroit cop who films his drives through inner city urban areas. The Atlantic characterized these journeys as “hood safaris,” implying that it’s racist to document the unfathomable danger the residents of our most crime-ridden cities face every day, even though Moore himself is black. I challenge anyone to watch just one of these videos and not instead ask: How have we allowed parts of cities like Chicago to become more dangerous than actual war zones?

As my colleague Ward Clark reported earlier, it was a big day for the Republican-controlled General Assembly in North Carolina, with the House and Senate overriding Democrat Gov. Josh Stein's veto of HB 805, a bill that, among other things, codifies the definition of man and woman in state law. What's especially interesting here is that, unlike in the Senate, which has a veto-proof supermajority, the House is short one vote courtesy of the 2024 elections. But one House Democrat, Rep. Nasif Majeed, voted along with Republicans to override the veto, saying afterwards, "I had some moral issues about that and I had to lean on my values."

Speaking candidly during a visit to Turnberry, Scotland, Trump called out the handling of these files under the previous administration as a manufactured “hoax” designed to manipulate political outcomes, particularly the 2024 election. When a reporter pressed Trump on whether he’d been briefed on his alleged inclusion in the Epstein files, he didn’t hold back.
