Republican Senator Thom Tillis has declared he will block President Trump’s choice for the crucial position of US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Ed Martin. His no vote will sink the nomination and if Martin isn’t confirmed in time, his replacement reportedly could be chosen by Trump-hating US District judge James Boasberg. Tillis doesn’t even have a plausible reason, telling reporters that his difference with Tillis is over the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Martin believes that some J6ers were unfairly over prosecuted and Tillis believes they all should have been jailed “for absolutely destroying the Capitol” — which never happened.

Remembering such religious persecution, the founding generation adopted the First Amendment to prevent the federal government (and later state and local governments through the Fourteenth Amendment) from “prohibiting the free exercise” of religion.
That protection for religious Americans should not act merely as a small carveout from government abuse.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s speech in New Hampshire last week was greeted by the media as yet another stirring call to arms for the rudderless Democratic Party.
“Never before in my life have I called for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption – but I am now,” Pritzker thundered. “These Republicans cannot know a moment of peace. They have to understand that we will fight their cruelty with every megaphone and microphone that we have. We must castigate them on the soapbox and then punish them at the ballot box.”

The selection comes as Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Thursday that Ed Martin, who is currently serving as D.C.'s interim top prosecutor, would not be taking the position permanently after losing support among top Republicans in the Senate.

An alligator attacked and killed a woman who was canoeing with her husband on a central Florida lake Tuesday afternoon, authorities said, after her spouse tried unsuccessfuly to fight off the predator.
The attack occurred near the mouth of Tiger Creek into Lake Kissimmee, south of Orlando, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said. It's near the same location as a March alligator attack in which a woman was bitten on the elbow while kayaking.
