The father of Georgia school shooter Colt Gray was arrested on charges including murder after it was revealed that he purchased the AR-15-style rifle the 14-year-old used to shoot dead four people on campus.Colin Gray, 54, has been taken into custody by local authorities and charged with two counts of murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter, and eight counts of cruelty to children.Officials confirmed in a press conference that the charges stem from Colin ‘knowingly allowing’ his son to have access to the firearm used in the shooting.

His son was interviewed by the FBI with the knowledge of the father, and the father took no steps to keep his weapons out of the kids possession. He should also be charged with stupidity .

Antigunners striking out against guns. This is an attempt to strike against generations of kids who learned safety and responsibility with guns.
I know dozens which were gifted guns as children, and it was a positive experience. Myself and my brother, both, included.

I got my first 12 Guage for Christmas when I was 12. Never shot a soul, even though I took the thing to school in the car so we could go hunting either before or after... Maybe it's a Texas thing.

He gave his kid a rifle,
"just months after the teenager and his father were interviewed by local law enforcement in connection with online threats about carrying out a school shooting made on the gaming social-media platform Discord, according to investigators."
Did anyone read the article?
When psychos threaten to shot up a school on Discord, you don't by them an automatic rifle . The Second Amendment is not involved.

Not so shocking when you buy your certified lunatic kid a semi-automatic rifle for Christmas.

This is not a slam at parents letting kids have guns.
It is a parent being held responsible for giving a kid an extremely dangerous gun AFTER being made aware that he was online threatening to kill other children at a shool!!!

I read the article. I also remember that about 10 or 15 years ago the subject of parents being charged for crimes that their children committed without the parents’ knowledge was talked about rather extensively on Limbaugh’s show and the unintended implications of such laws were also discussed. It seems logical for the father to be charged to the fullest extent possible under the law but without legal charges against his son having been brought it doesn’t seem a crime to buy the kid a gun. Stupid, yes. Negligent? Probably. An accessory to murder? Let a jury review the law and see.

Criminal negligence? Maybe. Child endangerment? Sure. Murder? No way.
Pass a law that no parent can purchase a gun and give it to someone who is not old enough to purchase it for themself. Fine.
The father did not murder these people. Don't let your emotionas fry your brain cells.
The one who pulled the trigger is the murderer and nobody else unless you can prove the dad was in on the plan.
Allow this to happen and you know what happens next? Next time they go after the store that SOLD the gun... then the manufacturer and suddenly everyone goes "How the hell did this happen" and the answer will be "Remember that school shooting in Winder, Georgia?"
And, as I recall reading yesterday, the kid lied and told investigators a year ago that his social media had been hacked. Since his account had a Russian name (might have even been in Russian alphabet) the investigators might have bought the story... along with dad.
Sometimes you have to MAKE logic override emotions. This is one of those times.

If it were not for idiot parents and very violent video games, chances are we would be experiencing a lot less criminal activity by teenagers misusing firearms to perpetrate school shootings. In the old days there were just as many firearms throughout the country but no school shootings.

A sick kid. A sick mother. A sick father. A horrible environment. Lord knows I am the last person alive to want a bigger government, but if any time, anywhere, anyone NEEDED intervention this was it. I wonder if the media will disclose that in separate Discord posts Colt shared a desire to target an elementary school and expressed frustration with the acceptance of transgender people. He was a troubled person in lots of ways. People saw something and said something. But no one DID anything. Therein lies the rub.

Re#5, the kid had already deleted the account, claiming that it had been repeatedly hacked and misused by the hackers. Denied any thoughts of violence. It may have been plausible to the parents. Not as cut and dried as some want it to be.

Dittos, #3. There are never any stories about kids who excel at marksmanship, or parents who teach proper weaponry to their children AND keep the weapons properly stored. Those we never hear of.

#3/#15, I am very conflicted with your comments. I understand the freedoms you are talking about but I kind of relate it to a different situation. It is like giving your child a condom without having that all important talk discussing possible outcomes if negligence is involved.
With that said, I am also wondering what is going on with the FBI and Secret Service. Let's face it; if we are going to have government, it better be responsible, accountable, and have good leadership. Democrats have had control 12 of the last 16 years and when Nancy Pelosi said we needed to drain the swamp, she must not get the fact that the swamp is murkier.
Also, when God is taken out of society namely the public schools, a person can expect chaos.

This is conflicting. While the father does have culpability certainly for allowing access to the gun and had to have known his son had mental issues, I’m not ok with giving the DOJ the power to charge anyone they choose. The DOJ is totally corrupt and could/would use this tactic in any number of ways. There should be charges, but murder is taking it too far.

What causes a 14-year old to have homocidal thoughts that then lead to action? Was he on some heavy dose of psychiatric medication? I thought some of those drugs had terrible side effects. Does someone know about this?

To all of you cheering this. Do you understand the road this leads down? You want 'Reparations', THIS is how you start. People that didn't actually do the crime (Negligent manslaughter in this case yup) are now going to be just as culpable as the one that pulled the trigger?
When will parents STOP being responsible for how they raised their kids??
Remember, the income tax was only supposed to effect 10's of people. You should NEVER let emotion cloud your reason.

Not sure how I feel about this development...he certainly must have known that his son was interested the rifle...but...the internet has a lot of influence on young people...were did he spent his time...on the internet...and what sights did he gravitate towards...all this must be considered...WE need more information before I'll make a judgment call on this....

I hope everyone on this thread understands that I am not criticizing comments like #3/#15. Especially when government speaks with forked tongue. First, they tell us parents should have no rights in situations they deem we should have no rights and then in other situations, parents are totally to blame. Now, do I think the parents are blameless? No.

The boy admired the Parkland shooter. Was said to have been obsessed with what he had done. I think he wanted the same "fame", as sick as that sounds.
All kids are not reated equal. Parents' denial notwithstanding, there are psychotic kids, "bad seeds".

You can't paint a thin line with a broad brush. Whether the kid had psychiatric problems or a healthy interest in guns, the fact is that he shot a bunch of people with a very capable rifle, certainly not one for a beginner. Many kids his age fought in the Revolution and the Civil War so age is not a factor but mental attitude and condition is. Forget the government, the parents are the best ones to determine this and the father obviously made a mistake.

13, I have "killed" thousands of people online in video games since I was a child. I never once thought about taking a real gun to shoot up a school. Video games have nothing to do with this. This is about irresponsible parenting and a child with serious emotional issues that went unresolved.

Kids don't have to be on drugs to have psychiatric problems. I once belonged to an auxiliary that supported a "home" for mentally ill (not retarded) children. The youngest "resident" was under five. It was a rude awakening.
