Donald Trump may well have sealed the outcome of the 2024 election with a performance on Thursday night in Milwaukee that has largely been unmatched in recent American political history.
The former president eschewed the polarization and division that has marked much of his rhetoric in the past. In his speech officially accepting the Republican Party's nomination there were only a couple of references to the 2020 election. Trump was able to hit on key messages when speaking about topics like inflation, and especially immigration, in ways that were compelling and arguably responsive to the fundamental concerns of Americans.
I say this not to engage in hyperbole,

Debate, strike one.
Failed assassination, strike two.
RNC convention, strike three.
Joe is out on strikes - the bat never left his shoulder.

This is a fine and noteworthy commentary on last night's address. I remember, many years ago when I still watched cable TV, that Doug Schoen was that rara avis in terra: a smart, sincere Democrat, free of animus.

A most enjoyable and well produced event altogether. Bound to scare the democrats.
The usual sources will still find it essential to distort the message, but the GOP did all it could to operate a very patriotic and pro-American convention.

Even lifelong Democrats, like Doug Schoen, are beginning to accept the prospect of four more years under another Trump Presidency, and are finding ways of justifying it.

The democrats have a Joe and Kamala problem and there is no solution. A four year record of death and destruction can't be denied, justified or swept under the rug. They are finished.

Do not believe for one second that this is over. Republicans need to continue to push and make gains until the last vote is counted!

Since last Saturday the world has seen the way a great man behaves. Not driven by fear or hate but by a resolve to improve life for his countrymen including the forgotten men and women of the poor and middle classes; of the military; of faith; of families and communities destroyed by the vicious policies of a criminal ruling class. They saw how a real man of compassion, wisdom and love behaves.

This RNC convention was actually watchable. Some of the speakers were lively, some entertaining, but the whole thing smacked of "let's, all of us, get together, unite, have some fun, but get our message out that there's room for all Americans." I was impressed for the first time since President Reagan ran.

Schoen should have started his article with his dislike of Trump so I would have been warned not to read it. But he yammered long enough before getting where he was going that I lost interest after the first 4 sentenced. Bah Humbug.

Overall good article, Doug. Just two things:
1.
"The former president eschewed the polarization and division that has marked much of his rhetoric in the past."
I'd call it defining who we are instead of polarization and division. Those pretty much get spoon fed to us by the media and the left. Remember what PDT has gone through the last 8.5 years at the hands of the deep state.
2.
"As an American, I’m pleased, indeed proud, that the Republicans explicitly – and, I think, for the first time – are seeking to unify the entire country and put aside the bitterness and resentment that has so frequently been evident."
As if that has been the goal of democrats ever, Doug.
Lastly, why are you still a democrat, Doug? Do you still share their values? Is it a work thing?

80 million ballots were cast for Biden during the last election, yeah right, now with the illegals, Joe is going to have over 100 million. We, as Republicans, need to turnout to vote, not just sit back and watch.

Schoen is one of the more sane people on the left side of our political spectrum but even he bought into the vitriol spewed by
Democrats. Perhaps a few scales are beginning to fall from his eyes. We can hope.

Three things to keep in mind
- The phony ballot printers, mules in the night, corrupt local counting officials are all still there. Even though their work is more difficult now
- An assassin whose connection cannot be traced in combination with a deliberately incompetent looking SS seems to be the MO. Next time in could be (in conjunction with) an 'Iranian agent'.
-The degree to which the judiciary remains corrupt remains to be seen.

I agree with #15. The cabal is more than happy to let us have our warm, fuzzy celebration.
But come November, it will be 2020 times two. No matter who they run.

FTA - "I fully expect Trump to increase his standing in the polls as a result of this week. I say that not only because of his Thursday night address, but also because of the entire convention. It was among the best, if not the best, choreographed and produced shows I have seen in 50 years of watching American political conventions."
Not bad for a guy who had part of his right ear shot off just five days ago.

From the article: "I say this not to engage in hyperbole, as I have never been – and am not now – a Trump supporter."
I get who Doug Schoen is and he is the same type of person/journalist who expresses how divisive Trump has been etc. Yet, if they would put their journalistic career aside along with their biases, they would come to realize that Donald Trump has been speaking about that since 2016 with the slogan "Make America Great Again" because that slogan speaks of the American people. We have become so used to government leaders and media charting their own course to the exclusion of the American people, they can't even see through their rose-colored Democrat glasses.

Kudos to Michael Whatley and Lara Trump for the best convention that I've seen since the 1980s. As much as I like Trump, that speech was way too long. I couldn't stay awake for the whole thing.

Not so fast. Democrats will do anything to retain power. Anything! The GOP must conduct a campaign that assumes they are 5 points behind and charge across the finish line on November 5th with a victory that Rush described as “beyond the margin of fraud.”

Trump was humble in his speech but was still able get his goals and expectations across. My one issue with the speech was the length of it. After two hours I had to turn the tv off and go to bed. I felt he kept saying the same thing over and over again. The economy. The border. Bringing manufacturing and jobs back to the U.S. Trade with China and others. Rebuilding the military. Reducing the national debt. All of these he covered which was great, but after the fifth or sixth time I heard it, I kept wondering if he ran out of things to say, so he just repeated the same stuff from an hour before. I kept looking at the convention floor wondering if anyone else in that crowd was thinking along the same lines as myself.

I don't begrudge the length of his speech. This man has been vilified for years and just went through the experience of last Saturday. Maybe he just needs to spend some time with America. After all, his character has been attacked/assassinated for years and now they decided to do it physically. I don't blame him a bit - it probably brought some healing for him. . .

“It was among the best, if not the best, choreographed and produced shows I have seen in 50 years of watching American political conventions." ~ Doug Schoen
Yes. It was a very well organized, orchestrated and produced event. But I thought this production was far more than a “show”, although there were elements of that throughout it.
The attempted assassination changed everything. There was a very real sense of close personal communication and empathetic connection between audience and speakers. The honest personal content and sincerity of delivery from “regular folks” was very powerful. Even the more polished political speakers included their own sincere personal information about DJT that belies the prominent caricature painted by his enemies (which I never believed in the first place).
There is no longer any doubt of the seriousness of the choice to be made in this election. “Fight” isn’t just a political rallying cry. It’s literally a matter of life and death for our country and our way of life.

This was a transformational speech given by a changed man who has faced mortality and Almighty God's dramatic prompting that recalls JFK's American University commencement speech.
"...our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal."
The media spin machine promoting the vile and hateful view of him as Hitler reincarnated was thrown down and the house of cards propping up the opposition fell and is likely to stay fallen as a majority of people have seen that they have been deceived by an endless pack of lies and eternal gaslighting.
Its been barely a month, and all the Hollyweird folks and their head spinmeister NoBama are now throwing the Vegetable under the bus after donating MILLIONS to re-elect Bernie the puppet to try to continue the charade that he was his own man...

Why do I think that somehow, someway, in the middle of the night after election day, they will find just enough ballots (no matter how long the counting takes), in just the right blue cities, to tip the electoral balance to Joe even if he has assumed room temperature?

Fox told me membership required to read this... I'll find the content somewhere less persnickety.
The whole premise of this (and similar reports) is that the vote counting will be honest (or close to it) and the winner won't have victory stolen by fraud or other guile..
