PARIS (AP) – Water in the Seine River had unsafe elevated levels of E. coli less than two months before swimming competitions are scheduled to take place in it during the Paris Olympics, according to test results published Friday. Contamination levels in the first eight days of June, after persistent heavy rain in Paris, showed bacteria such as E. coli and enterococci beyond limits judged safe for athletes. The report was published by monitoring group Eau de Paris one day after a senior International Olympic Committee executive said there were “no reasons to doubt” races will go ahead as scheduled in a historic downtown stretch of the Seine near the Eiffel Tower.

I'm not inclined to gratify American Pravda click bait. But swim events should be in standard Olympics pools, which are usually well-disinfected. Not in polluted rivers or lakes.

Re: #3 - Triathlon events include the swim section which is in a lake or river. Perhaps that is the concern. I’m sure that recent immigrants could not possibly be contributing to the problem.

The Seine River hasn't seen a clean day in hundreds of years. The city had open sewers for centuries and bodies are buried underneath the streets layer upon layer deep. They aren't going to fix this problem now. On a side note, I haven't watched the Olympics since they allowed pro athletes to compete and I don't intend to start now.

A friend of mine did an Iron Man competition, including a swim in the Ohio River. He said multiple athletes were sick as a result of that swim. The Seine has been used by humans a lot longer than the Ohio River has.

Just as #9 says, I haven't watched an Olympics since it went with pros. I understand the fine line between athlete and pro for the Olympics. What's the difference between a pro and a lucky "amateur" who has a wealthy sponsor or family that can finance year round training for their athlete in lieu of a job and an actual professional from the (say) Boston Celtics?

The Seine river has been an open sewer for 1600 years. Why did they think it would be different this summer? If this is they level of planning they have done this could been the last Olympics.

On Friday on Fox News Channel, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) warned what a second term for President Joe Biden would mean for the country as Russia and China continue to amass global power. The Arkansas Republican told FNC host Martha MacCallum that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have only been emboldened under Biden’s presidency. “Martha, what I think Putin and Xi are thinking is they hope Joe Biden wins because, for three and a half years, America’s had a ‘kick me’ sign on our back because of Joe Biden’s weak, failed presidency,” he said. “I agree with what the former president just said,

Citizens Against Government Waste, a nonprofit, has published its annual “Congressional Pig Book,” and it’s a doozy. Published annually since 1991, the “Congressional Big Book” contains a compilation of all the wasteful “pork-barrel” projects in the federal budget pursued by both Democrats and Republicans. [Tweet] Covering last year’s budget, this year’s book reportedly contains 8,222 earmarks costing a whopping $22.7 billion. Of the legislators who pursued earmarks, Rep. Susan Collins, a Republican, pursued the most. “Her 231 earmarks cost $575,580,000, which is $109,429,721, or 23.5 percent more than the legislator in second place, Senate Appropriations Committee member Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who received 185 earmarks costing $466,370,279,” the book reads.

A Southwest Airlines flight traveling from Phoenix, Arizona, to Oakland, California, experienced a rare “Dutch roll” at 32,000 feet, causing “significant damage” to the Boeing aircraft. Southwest Flight 746 was in the air on May 25 “when its tail began to wag left and right, causing the plane’s wings to rock from side to side,” the New York Post reported. As the Boeing 737 experienced side-to-side and see-sawing motions simultaneously, it sustained “substantial” damage but was able to complete the flight, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The damage was not discovered until a “post-flight inspection,” USA Today reported. No injuries were reported by any flight crew or passengers.

In an era where ideologies should be advancing, it’s baffling that the far-left remains stuck in the past, misreading everyday symbols as politicized messages. Imagine a Jan. 6-style crisis, only this time with serious (as opposed to politically manufactured) disagreements over whether the presidential candidate who won a key state is entitled to its electoral votes. That disturbing scenario just became a little bit more likely — not for the next presidential election but subsequent ones. Without fanfare, Minnesota’s governor signed legislation last month that would award the state’s 10 presidential electors to the national popular-vote winner even if he or she lost Minnesota. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact purports to take effect once states carrying 270 electoral votes (the minimum needed to win the presidency) have agreed to its terms.

The survey also found that a massive 70 percent of Americans think the 81-year-old president will fumble over his words— something he is very prone to. Voters from both sides of the political aisle doubt Biden’s ability to even make it through the whole debate in one piece.

It is part of Republicans’ attempt to increase mail voting among their supporters. At the same time, the Republican National Committee, newly under the former president’s control, has sued or joined lawsuits seeking to limit certain aspects of mail voting.
