The home of a New Jersey Democrat, who has been accused of accepting bribes and using his power as an elected official to benefit the Egyptian government, was searched and discovered to be holding more than $600,000 in cash and gold bars.
Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and his wife, Nadine Menendez were each charged in September 2023, with three federal counts of allegedly accepting bribes and using the senator’s power and influence to “protect and enrich” three New Jersey businessmen, and to “benefit the Arab Republic of Egypt,” according to the indictment in the New York Times.
The three men are Wael Hana, Fred Daibes, and Jose Uribe.

Officials are pointing the finger at climate change as a Texas town battles with another spring of exploding mosquito populations.
"If you open the car door to go somewhere, you’ve got 10 mosquitoes inside," Mith Varley, a resident of the Houston suburb of Conroe, Texas, said of the issue, according to a report in the Washington Post.
Varley, who has lived in the area of Montgomery County for nearly 10 years, told the Washington Post he has never seen it worse. While the area of Texas has always been known as an ideal mosquito habitat,

The president didn't use Trump or the GOP's name as he addressed graduating seniors from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, but it was clear who he was talking about as he brought up January 6 amid their commencement ceremony.
'Insurrectionists who stormed the capitol with Confederate flags are called patriots by some,' Biden told the seniors, graduating from the historically black, all-male institution. 'Not in my house.'
Trump often refers to his supporters who ramsacked the Capitol by that term.
'Black police officers, black veterans, protecting the Capitol were called another word as you recall,' Biden continued.
The president added that 'extremists close the doors of opportunity.'

The walls came tumbling down Thursday on some of the mendacious narratives the American public has been force-fed during and after the COVID pandemic about gain of function research and the origins of the virus. Although Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) repeatedly questioned former chief advisor to the president and former NIAID head Dr. Anthony Fauci about the research in heated numerous congressional hearings over the last few years, the good doctor went on record over and over again angrily denying that any such thing had occurred.
But on Thursday, NIH Principal Deputy Director Dr. Lawrence Tabak admitted that NIH did fund GOF research at Wuhan Institute of Virology

The news this week has brought on a lot of speculation as to what it might actually mean for Joe Biden and the Democratic presidential ticket as a whole. Could Joe Biden still be replaced? Who would be at the top of the ticket? Would they actually skip over Kamala Harris if they swapped Biden out?
First of all, I still find it highly unlikely that Joe Biden won't be on the ticket, barring (God forbid) natural causes. The stubborn old man has no reason to step aside, especially when he thinks he's doing such a great job. He doesn't see any problems, unlike Republicans

An alderwoman on Chicago’s city council has called America a “garbage society” and believes it is “racist” to hold criminals accountable for their crimes.
Rossana Rodriguez advocates for defunding police and wants children to be taught critical race theory as she takes part in the council’s Education and Child Development committee. The council member rails against society on her social media accounts and has denounced America as “a White supremacist society and system” that “favors White people.”
A member of the Chicago Democratic Socialist Caucus and the council’s Progressive Reform Caucus, Rodriguez – who fittingly worked as a drama teacher after growing up in Puerto Rico –

It’s getting harder and harder to pretend the war in Ukraine, now in its third year, is about “defending democracy,” as our political elites in Washington insist.
This is especially true when Secretary of State Antony Blinken shows up in Ukraine to deliver billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars to fund the war, proclaims that Ukraine’s scheduled presidential elections this spring are canceled until “conditions allow” (Ukraine has not held elections since 2019), and then jaunts off to a popular Kyiv nightclub to play a boomerish cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.”
That actually happened this week.

COVID-19, which killed 1.1 million Americans and destroyed the lives and livelihoods of millions more, is a manmade virus that escaped from a Chinese lab partly funded by the US government.
Even today, you’re not supposed to say that — even though it’s the only plausible scenario.
No, “fact checkers” will rush in to claim that eminent scientists deny this. Which is because those scientists have too much invested — in money, in time, in their own beliefs — to admit the truth.
But as Congress continues to probe, that truth is coming out, little by little, and the lies are being exposed:

Hertz is unloading 30,000 used cars on the market. The mileage might not be the lowest, but they're all 2022 or newer and lovingly maintained by the company's team of professional mechanics. While most used-car prices remain sky-high, the prices on these gently used babies is shockingly low.
There's just one catch: they're all Teslas.
Hertz, you might have read, came out of bankruptcy a couple of years ago and placed a big bet on electric vehicles. The rental firm had originally planned to buy no fewer than 100,000 EVs for their fleet but ended up with quite a bit fewer at 30,000 — almost all of them Teslas.

The White House needs to answer up about this crazy case.
On May 3, two Jordanian nationals pretended to be subcontractors making an Amazon delivery when they drove up to the Fuller Road Gate at Marine Corps Base Quantico in a box truck.
Because the two had no affiliation with the Marine base and no credentials to enter it, military police officers directed them to go to a holding area to undergo standard vetting procedures, according to Curtis. But the driver blew past the holding area and attempted to drive onto the base.
Officers put up the vehicle denial barriers, blocking the truck from

A Boeing plane carrying 468 people was forced to make an emergency landing in Indonesia after the engine suddenly caught fire just after takeoff.
The Garuda Indonesia jet was taking off from the Indonesian city of Makassar en route to Saudi Arabia — with many passengers heading on pilgrimage to Mecca — when the drama unfolded at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, the airline said.
Dramatic footage posted on social media apparently shows the Boeing 747-400 plane’s engine engulfed in flames right as its wheels were lifting off the runway. The pilot immediately returned to the original airport, according to the airline.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) is floating the idea of having newly arrived migrants become lifeguards for the city’s public pools, declaring them “excellent swimmers.”
On Tuesday, during a press briefing, Adams complained that the hundreds of thousands of migrants who have arrived in New York City over the last few years remain ineligible to work.
Instead, Adams said he would like to see migrants be offered lifeguard jobs at the city’s public pools and beaches because they are “excellent swimmers.”
“Let me just take your imagination for a moment. If we had a migrant and asylum seeker plan that states
