JPMorgan Chase and institutional investors BlackRock and State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) on Thursday announced that they are quitting or, in the case of BlackRock, substantially scaling back involvement in a massive United Nations climate alliance formed to combat global warming through corporate sustainability agreements. In a statement, the New York-based JPMorgan Chase explained that it would exit the so-called Climate Action 100+ investor group because of the expansion of its in-house sustainability team and the establishment of its climate risk framework in recent years. BlackRock and State Street, which both manage trillions of dollars in assets, said the alliance's climate initiatives had gone too far,

It all boils down to this: BlackRock and State Street, which both manage trillions of dollars in assets, said the alliance's climate initiatives had gone too far, expressing concern about potential legal issues as well. Remember, legal issues don't just happen in the United States, but all over the world. And, wonder if they took a look at the recent data from Anthony Watts regarding how more than 90% of NOAA's temperature monitoring stations had a heat bias. Many were at airports where there's lots of concrete and asphalt, in parking lots, next to exhaust fans of air conditioning units, near sidewalks and buildings that absorb and radiate heat. If you're making policy off of faulty or erroneous data, and there is harm from the changes it will likely result in many lawsuits for damages.

Trump is coming. Smart money knows it, and is liquidating their climate change positions and taking new positions consisitent with MAGA policies. There will be WAY more money to be made under MAGA growth polcies than there ever would have been in the shrinking, austerity, and rationing that are called for under climate change policies. Hard to make money when all anyone is allowed to do is sit in the dirt and eat bugs.

Last year the company I retired from - that had my 401K - turned over handling to a 3rd party administrator, Vanguard. About that time, Vanguard announced they were pursuing ESG investment strategies; that is, environmental, social, and governance. I immediately called my investment guy and got him ready to move my entire 401K over to his control. A few days later we had a 3-way call to do it. I had to wait that long to get an appointment to talk to Vanguard. I asked my investment guy why it might have taken so long. He replied that it was probably because there were a ton of people ahead of me trying to move all of their money away from Vanguard! I'll bet he was right.

The Wall Street Journal has a long article about the Biden administration’s efforts to stop Israel from winning a decisive victory over Gaza: The looming Israeli military plans to invade Rafah have exacerbated tensions between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and the Biden administration, which has grown increasingly frustrated with its attempts to rein in Israel’s military campaign. The consequences of the distrust between President Biden and Netanyahu, who have spoken 18 times since Hamas’s Oct. 7 assault, have grown only starker in recent days. Biden now appears to be trying to draw a line

The International Court of Justice (ICJ), the United Nations’ judicial body for handling disputes among countries, declined Friday to block Israel from undertaking military operations in Rafah, Gaza, against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. South Africa, which is pursuing a separate legal action against Israel for supposed “genocide” in Gaza, brought an urgent application to the ICJ on Monday, hours after Israel rescued two hostages from Rafah. South Africa complained of an “assault” but left out the hostages. The ICJ responded by referring to its interim ruling on “genocide” last month, reminding Israel to abide by its obligations. (The ICJ did not block Israel’s military action in Gaza

The latest demographic data from Canada showed the male population increasing by 3.4 percent, while females grew by only 2.9 percent, the widest disparity between the sexes in almost half a century. Analysts pointed to heavy immigration from military-age males as a driving force in the demographic shift. Bloomberg BNN noted on Thursday that almost all of Canada’s net population growth is due to immigration, “especially among foreign students and temporary workers.” “From the late 1970s to around the early 2010s, Canada’s population increasingly skewed female, but the trend has been reversing

Democrats disapprove of the U.S. government’s handling of migrant crossings at the southern border more now than at any other recorded point during Joe Biden’s presidency, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center. Seventy-three percent of surveyed Democrats rate the government’s handling of the influx of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border as “somewhat bad” or “very bad,” according to the report — only 11 percentage points lower than Democrats’ disapproval ratings in 2019 during Donald Trump’s presidency. The numbers from the report released Thursday mark a grim trend for Biden.

Donald Trump likes the idea of a national ban on abortion past 16 weeks of pregnancy with exceptions for rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother, the New York Times reported Friday morning. Trump has veered away from taking a firm stance on abortion during his presidential campaign. He has taken credit for the US supreme court’s 2022 overturning of Roe v Wade, since he appointed three of the justices who took part in that decision, but he has also suggested that Republicans who take extreme stances on abortion lose elections. “Know what I like about 16?” Trump told one individual, according to the Times, which based
