Will Cuyahoga County surpass 2017 for
the highest number of overdose deaths
this year?

This year, Cuyahoga County may still be on track to surpass 2017 for the highest number of overdose deaths. Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Gilson said fentanyl remains the biggest contributor. "There’s still always the chance you get something you didn't bargain for,” said Gilson. Since fentanyl appeared in the area's drug supply in late 2014, Cuyahoga County went from around 350 drug overdoses a year to 650 plus every year. The worst year to date was 2017 when 727 people overdosed. In June, when News 5 spoke to Gilson last, he feared the county was on track to surpass 2017.

Comments:

Maybe I'm naive, but I have trouble comprehending the fact that more than 700 people will die from drug overdoses this year in just one Ohio county.

That is about 1 out of every 1800 citizens of Cuyahoga County. Family members and friends should be asking their Democrat officeholders how all this fentanyl could have possibly entered the country.

Don't take drugs and you won't OD. It's actually not too difficult a concept. The old commercial "Just say NO" was right.

Ohio only surpasses West Virginia because the population overall is greater. We can blame China and Mexico for this problem but if there was not consumer demand there would not be a Fentanyl problem. The underlying reason is too much government, aka US taxpayer money, available for drug-ingesting parasites to avoid jobs and buy drugs.

Drug overdoses are horrible for the family but the more overdoses there are the more idiots disappear from out communities.

Fentanyl may eventually turn out to be the solution to our problems with drugs and the homeless. Fentanyl sounds much more lethal than the Covid19 virus.

Gold prices notched a new record on Monday for a second day in a row — with spot prices touching $2,100 as the global rush for bullion appears set to continue. Gold prices are on course to hit fresh highs next year and could remain above $2,000 levels, analysts said, citing geopolitical uncertainty, a likely weaker U.S. dollar and possible interest rate cuts. Prices of the yellow metal have risen for two consecutive months with the Israel-Palestinian conflict boosting demand for the safe-haven asset, while expectations of interest rate cuts have provided further support.

Amazon has banned the sale of the 'FlipperZero' gadget, a handheld device designed to hack into digital frequencies such as radio waves and TV signals. First released in the summer of 2020, the tool took off this year as it fueled a TikTok prank wave. The online retail giant decided to ban the product after it became clear its hacking abilities are also able to clone credit card information, breaking the company's rules on card-skimming. And in a disturbing look at how easily public digital waves are intercepted, social media has become flooded with pranksters switching off restaurant screens, opening card-locked doors and meddling with vehicles.

Muslim community leaders from several swing states pledged to withdraw support for U.S. President Joe Biden on Saturday at a conference in suburban Detroit, citing his refusal to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. Democrats in Michigan have warned the White House that Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war could cost him enough support within the Arab American community to sway the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Leaders from Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania gathered behind a lectern that read "Abandon Biden, ceasefire now" in Dearborn, Michigan - the city with the largest concentration of Arab Americans in the United States.

Ireland's prime minister on Friday condemned anti-immigrant protesters who rampaged through central Dublin after three young children were stabbed, saying the rioters simply wanted to cause chaos, not protect the country's way of life. Police arrested 34 people overnight after up to 500 people looted shops, set fire to vehicles and threw rocks at crowd control officers equipped with helmets and shields. The violence began after rumors circulated that a foreign national was responsible for the attack outside a Dublin school on Thursday afternoon. Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said Ireland's capital had endured two attacks, one on innocent children and the other on "our society and the rule of law."

Their activities range from expressions of sympathy and propaganda activities to financing and fundraising activities to strengthen the organization abroad.
