I ran track in High School. If someone went on a stabbing spree, I doubt that a knife-wielding criminal could catch me UNLESS my school was locked down. Of course in the early-mid 70s in my rural East Texas community, the pickups in the student parking lots typically had shotguns in racks behind the bench seats or mounted on the rear glass of the cab, as 4-door pickups were yet to be a thing among regular folks. Not so curiously, we never had mass killings of any kind on our small town campuses. I joined the military after graduating and went to college after my enlistment was up. After a career that included 40 years in law enforcement, I moved back to the same town to finish raising my kids. Today, that same school district has large signs in various locations near the pick up and drop off zones that unambiguously warn of armed teachers and staff, prepared to take the "appropriate action," including deadly force, against violent intruders. In '73, we students, male or female, didn't need our teachers and staff to be armed but somewhere along the way, students were prohibited from having firearms in personal vehicles.

There will soon be calls for knife control but there will never be calls for criminal control. Liberals let criminals run loose and when they kill someone they call for a ban on the weapon they used.
