Three of America's largest tax preparation companies have been accused of sharing tens of millions of taxpayers' sensitive financial data with tech giants Google and Meta without their consent. A seven-month congressional probe, led by Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, alleges H&R Block, TaxAct and TaxSlayer used visitor tracking technology embedded in websites to share the information. In a potential violation of federal law, the investigation found data was in some cases misused by Facebook parent company Meta for targeted advertising. According to the report, alongside sharing data such as addresses and phone numbers, companies also

I hope there is a class action suit in the works. I can prove I used H&R Block so I can cash in.

You still have to gather together all your paperwork, and then watch someone else add it up on their calculator and put the answer in the right box. I got tired of paying someone else a couple of hundred dollars to do that, plus they had all my information to do with what they wanted after I walked out the door. I wised up thirty years ago and started doing it myself. I've got an otherwise worthless B.A. in History from a Cal State Univ campus, it ought to be worth enough to figure out tax instructions. We don't have any complicated investments, so I muddle through and do it myself. It's how I keep tabs on what our esteemed congress critters have been doing while working for the American people. (Stop laughing!)

Never use one of these tax prep "services." Besides costing a bundle to do some simple calculations, the people they hire usually know less about taxes than you do. The only time I used one, I had to tell my "tax expert" every number to write in every box.

Make no mistake: The Biden administration is laughing at us. We are meant to believe that the United States Secret Service, tasked with protecting the very life of the president, cannot crack the case of who left cocaine in a secure, hard-to-access part of the White House — despite facial recognition cameras, guest-book logs and security all over the most protected building in the Western world. The cover-up, as the Nixon-era saying goes, is always worse than the crime.

Suppose it was anthrax,” he added. “Would they have the same answer?”“We have a tale of two countries,” a second former agent told the Post. “They identified hundreds of people who were in the Capitol building on Jan. 6 after an extensive investigation, but

President Biden appeared to nibble at the shoulder of a startled little girl during his departure from Helsinki, Finland, on Thursday. A video of the incident, which took place as the president greeted embassy staff members and their families before he boarded Air Force One at Helsinki-Vantaan International Airport, shows Biden leaning into a young girl and placing his mouth on her shoulder as he nibbled lightly. The little girl – who appeared frightened during the experience – later turned her head when Biden, who will turn 81 this November, tried to give her a peck on the head.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s net worth has skyrocketed ever since she became a member of the nation’s highest court — which has led to criticism from experts. Fox News reported that, according to financial disclosures, Sotomayor’s wealth increased from being in the $15,001-$65,000 range in 2008 to being in the $1,600,000-$6,600,000 range in 2021.Sotomayor was nominated by then-President Barack Obama to the Supreme Court in 2009. A recent data analysis of her actions on the court found that she is the most partisan justice on the court. The 69-year-old reportedly makes more than $25,000 per year teaching law schools in addition to her $285,400 salary from the court.

The Biden administration announced Friday that it would forgive $39 billion in student loans for 804,000 borrowers, explaining it had pursued certain fixes to existing income-driven-repayment plans. “For far too long, borrowers fell through the cracks of a broken system that failed to keep accurate track of their progress towards forgiveness,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a written statement. These income-driven plans set a forgiveness threshold of 20 or 25 years. Borrowers must make payments that qualify over this period — payments that can be as low as $0 based on an individual’s income and family situation. “By fixing past administrative failures, we are ensuring everyone gets the forgiveness they deserve,

Last night, Fox News host Jessie Watters, like the rest of the nation, couldn’t stomach the United States Secret Service’s conclusion that it couldn’t figure out who brought cocaine into the White House. The law enforcement agency has the names of 500 individuals in or around the vestibule where the drugs were discovered, but supposedly no video evidence that can zero in on a person of interest. Due to the lack of a solid suspect, the agency is closing its investigation. Katie had more on this yesterday. She included the statement from the Secret Service:

Former President Donald Trump, up by double digits over every GOP opponent in the critical early-voting state of Iowa, took a swing at the state’s popular Republican governor — and it may have backfired. Some influential Republicans in the state tell The Washington Times that Mr. Trump‘s social media attack on Gov. Kim Reynolds has caused them to rethink their support. They believe many others will follow. “She’s more popular here than he is, by far,” said Cody Hoefert, the former co-chair of the Iowa Republican Party. “And when he goes after her, that doesn’t bode well for him.”

Ron DeSantis’s once-vaunted presidential bid is in freefall. In the latest ominous sign for the Florida governor, Rupert Murdoch’s media empire appears to be distancing itself from his candidacy, with once-supportive outlets from Fox News and the New York Post to The Wall Street Journal highlighting his flagging poll numbers, his policy inconsistencies, and his cringeworthy attempts to connect with voters in key primary states. Should the DeSantis campaign fizzle out, comparisons with previous GOP stars-turned-flops like Jeb Bush, his predecessor in Tallahassee, are inevitable. But a more revealing analogy for DeSantis is to the most disappointing candidacy in the 2020 Democratic field: that of Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
