Amazon’s top technology officer told the United Nations this week that people will need to eat more fish and less beef if they want to protect the environment, and said artificial intelligence is a tool that is already helping to make that happen.
Dr. Werner Vogels, chief technology officer and vice president of Amazon, told the "AI for Good" global summit in Geneva this week that AI is helping rice farmers and other food producers around the world be much more efficient. However, he said AI will also play an important role in making sure food comes at a lower cost to the environment.

AI should tell the Amazon tech guru what he can do with himself.

He doesn't mean himself, or anyone he knows. Just all you little people who need self appointed "experts" to control everything.

Over forty years ago at the time of the introduction of the Macintosh PC, Apple had circulated a video "The goddess and the computer" about rice farmers in Bali and how portable computing was helping them. Urge the interested to look it up.

He's in denial, but Klaus Schwab will die soon and Yuval Harari will not be able to take up the mantle.
So rest easy, it's just Nazi smoke.

The efficiency of rice farmers has nothing to do with rice consumption.

I eat less beef & more fish because I feel better when I do. It’s a choice thing, which is entirely the point. These do-gooding nosed bodies need to MTOFB.

So AI, programmed by elites, is going to replace the market, informing producers what to produce. Interesting, Capitalism replaced by AI. I will be totally frank. The telephone answering system is ran by AI, press 1 for this, 2 for that --- but those options never cover the reason for my call, and I do not enjoy the elevator music, which has left me unimpressed with AI. Overall, I have not been particularly impressed by the people that program AI, preferring to choose to spend the money I earn on the few choices I am allowed in life, all while leftists seem able to do anything they like, none of whose choices I like.

If we were all deciding to eat fish rather than beef we would within a couple years totally wipe out the fisheries. This is a limited food supply.

Doctor Vogels had better be careful what he wishes for. There is no such thing as true AI and won't be for a long time, but the computers in existence could easily do his job. Amazon is nothing but a department store.

What Vogels claims (that AI helps) applies only if "AI" stands for AUTHENTIC intelligence, which does not apply artificial intelligence (yet, at least, though I doubt it will ever truly apply). A heuristic-driven "expert system" is not intelligence. Those 1970s approaches deserve more to be called "concealed unintelligence" than "artificial intelligence".

Hogwash. And AI is 99% smoke and mirrors and 1% fancy programming.
I eat lots of beef and will CONTINUE to do it. Fishing the oceans is easily as damaging, probably more damaging. Cows don't hurt a thing, mostly eating grass.
Stop thinking you are so damned smart and mind your own damned business.
