This story emerged from an unlikely source involving Glenn Beck’s recent vacation to Europe. As reported at The Blaze, while Beck was overseas he had a disturbing conversation with his travel agent. He was told, “You should see Europe now while you can.” The reason is that the United Nations has been rolling out “sustainability goals” for the travel industry, particularly when it comes to air travel. They are trying to force airlines to get to “net zero” in terms of emissions. As we recently discussed here, the technology doesn’t currently exist to achieve net zero for commercial airlines without vastly increasing the cost for travelers.

Dictatorships restrict travel. That is where we are heading. All in the name of saving the planet.

Airlines employ hundreds of thousands of people. Anything done to airplanes, meaning "loss of tails" would result in ten times that in layoffs at airlines. This is the total vacuous nature of the left in the Executive Branch of government. I know that the Charter of the FAA does not allow them to mandate changes that would result in an airline going out of business. This SAME wording need to be adopted to the Charters of the EPA, Dept of Ag, IRS, etc., ad nauseum. Better than that, shut down ANY Federal organization not directly affiliated with Constitutionally mandated functions of the Federal Government, and give them instead to the States.

Remember the travel restrictions during Covid? How easily people acquiesced to them and how long they lasted? That was just a test run.

I've already heard that the "solution," (final?) for so many cancelled flights is to build and populate more "15-minute cities."

The right to travel where we want, near or far, may not be enshrined in the Constitution, but it is one of the most fundamental freedoms in a free society. Of course they want to restrict it.
It will be coming on the hometown level too. When you have to choose between unaffordable gas and an impossibly-priced electric (assuming there is a grid to charge up), they'll have you where they want you.

This explains some recent stories about propeller planes being criticized. Most have engines with leaded gas. Enviros are suddenly demanding that the leaded gas be eliminated from these small planes, although doing so would damage the prop plane engines and result in crashes.

#3 has a great idea. Give the states the power to do things that are not specifically spelled out for the federal government. Maybe we could give it a catchy name like "The Tenth Amendment" or something.

Just booked trip to UK next spring, taxes were about 20% of total. Europe gonna lose a lot of tax money if we have to take sailboats. Unless EU is gonna allow Chinese to take trains to visit, about 20% hit to their GDP - kinda like Covid days. Don’t think those taxes will last.

Aww, too bad for the airlines...honestly, I flew a lot when I traveled for my job,and even did some hours in private planes, but no more...I refuse to stand in long lines for hours and be 'frisked' by some groping TSA agent, taking off my shoes, etc and stuffed into an aluminum tube next to smelly, fat, crabby, travelers...next time I fly, hopefully, will be with wings...

Well that's nice and rather elitist of you #9 - maybe some of us here haven't had the opportunity to visit Europe and would like to in the future.

I figure the founders of this country left Europe for a reason, and there is so much beauty in this country that I still haven't seen... I've no desire to slog across the pond to join huddled crowds somewhere else. But I support the right of others to travel wherever their means and desires can take 'em.
The idea of "net zero" airplanes makes me even less inclined to fly any more. Structural integrity carries some cost in weight, which takes more fuel to propel. And technological advances don't just magically pop out of the legislator's pen.

This is not about whether or not you should travel. It is about a government not our own telling us what we can and cannot do.
