NBCUniversal executive Linda Yaccarino is in talks to become Twitter’s chief executive, the Wall Street Journal reported, after owner Elon Musk’s announcement that he had found a new leader for the social network and would shift into a new role as chief technologist.
In a tweet Thursday, Musk said the company’s new CEO will start in about six weeks, without naming the individual. Yaccarino, who is chair of global advertising and partnerships at NBCUniversal Media, didn’t respond to an email seeking comment, and a representative for NBCUniversal said she was in rehearsals for the company’s Upfront presentations to advertisers.

Washington — A federal judge in Virginia invalidated a set of federal restrictions that prohibit people under the age of 21 years old from purchasing a handgun from federally licensed firearm dealers, finding the rules violate the Second Amendment.
In a 65-page decision issued Wednesday, U.S. Senior District Judge Robert Payne ruled in favor of four men who are over the age of 18 but not yet 21 and want to purchase handguns. One of the men, John "Corey" Fraser, attempted to buy a Glock 19x handgun from a federal firearm licensed dealer in May 2022, but was denied the purchase because of his age.

With Title 42 set to expire Thursday, the White House announced on Wednesday a new set of sweeping rules to curb the anticipated influx of illegal migrants.
The Biden administration will now begin denying entry to all migrants who do not first seek asylum in a transit country or apply for protection in America using an online form before arriving at the border. Moreover, Venezuelan, Haitian, Cuban, and Nicaraguan nationals caught illegally crossing the Southern border will be deported back to Mexico.
Complimenting these new initiatives, the White House has disclosed plans to open at least 100 regional processing centers while granting 30,000 humanitarian exceptions to the new asylum rules per month.

A Chicago prosecutor who had been working for the city for 20 years quit his job last week. In a final letter he praised many of the people he worked with but said he could not raise his son in a city that was part of a social experiment, one which he believes has the city heading for disaster.
Jason Poje, a felony trial attorney with the Cook County State Attorney’s Office, sent the letter to 85 colleagues on Friday as he headed out the door, explaining that he was departing because of several progressive reforms that have made the city more dangerous for everyone, Fox News reported.

In the spring of 2019, Marc Benioff surveyed his kingdom and it looked good. He stood on the top floor of the Salesforce Tower, the tallest building in San Francisco, named after his company, then the largest employer in San Francisco. You could see every part of the city and out across the bay. The UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and the Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland (to which Benioff had donated $250 million). The site of a 200-bed Navigation Center for the homeless (which Benioff had defended in the face of other rich — but less rich — San Franciscans who tried to fight it off). The city looked

Vladimir Putin’s annual Victory Day parade in Moscow meant to showcase Russia’s military might failed to impress Tuesday, with critics poking fun at the lone World War II-era tank that was seen rolling forlornly through Red Square.
The event celebrating Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in 1945 was a drastically pared-down affair compared to years past, featuring a mere 8,000 soldiers — the lowest number since 2008. Even the procession in 2020, at the height of the COVID pandemic, featured some 13,000 soldiers. Last May, more than a month into the invasion of Ukraine, 11,000 troops took part in the parade.
This time, there was no fly-over of fighter jets,

The financial firm HSBC has officially downgraded the stock of Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI) to a “hold” amid growing concerns that backlash against the company’s partnership with a transgender social-media influencer, Dyland Mulvaney, continues to hamper sales.
Carlos Laboy, a managing director with the bank’s global beverage sector, admitted in a note written on Wednesday morning that Anheuser-Busch is currently in the midst of dealing with a “Bud Light crisis” and that there are “deeper problems than ABI admits.”
“Is ABI’s leadership getting the brand culture transformation right? It’s mixed,”

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — U.S. Rep. George Santos, the New York Republican infamous for fabricating key parts of his life story, was arrested Wednesday on federal criminal charges ahead of an expected court appearance.
The indictment says Santos induced supporters to donate to a company under the false pretense that the money would be used to support his campaign. Instead, it says, he used it for personal expenses, including luxury designer clothes and to pay off his credit cards.
Santos also is accused of lying about his finances on congressional disclosure forms and applying for and receiving unemployment benefits while he was employed as regional director of an investment firm

The Biden family and its business associates created a complicated web of more than 20 companies, according to bank records obtained by the House Oversight Committee — a system GOP lawmakers say was meant to conceal money received from foreign nationals.
Sixteen of the companies were limited liability companies formed during Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president, the committee said in a press conference on Wednesday. The Biden family, their business associates, and their companies received more than $10 million from foreign nationals’ and their related companies, the records show. These payments occurred both while Biden was in office as vice president and after his time in office ended.

The New York Times will receive a $100 million payout from Google over three years as part of a content-distribution deal, providing the newspaper with a hefty revenue cushion during what will likely be a down year for the journalism industry.
While the agreement was announced earlier in the year, the monetary sum was unknown until this week, when sources revealed it to the Wall Street Journal. The deal will involve content distribution and subscriptions, as well as using Google tools for marketing and ad-product experimentation. The Times‘ revenue boost comes at a time when many media brands have been suffering ad-revenue decline.

Federal prosecutors have filed criminal charges against New York Rep. George Santos, the Republican lawmaker whose astonishing pattern of lies and fabrications stunned even hardened politicos, according to three sources familiar with the matter.
Santos is expected to appear as soon as Wednesday at federal court in New York's eastern district, where the charges have been filed under seal.
The exact nature of the charges couldn't immediately be learned but the FBI and the Justice Department public integrity prosecutors in New York and Washington have been examining allegations of false statements in Santos' campaign finance filings and other claims.
