New audio files obtained by CBS News reveal how a congressional investigator pushed retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser to former President Donald Trump, to testify about his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and questioned Flynn about whether he pressured military and intelligence officials to assist him with that endeavor. The audio files are the latest window into the work of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol and its attempt to learn more about the extent of Flynn's contacts with defense and intelligence officials.

Embattled Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., will step back from the two committee assignments he received in the House of Representatives, sources tell Fox News.
Multiple GOP sources confirm to Fox News that Santos said in a Republican conference meeting Tuesday morning he will recuse himself from his assignments on the Small Business and Science Committees.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., had faced numerous questions over whether Santos would be permitted to sit on House committees following revelations that he fabricated his work and education history, among numerous other lies.

“Peace Corps/Peru has temporarily evacuated all volunteers to another Peace Corps post,” Blackwell said in an email. “The safety and well-being of Peace Corps volunteers is our top priority. We are closely monitoring the security situation with local partners on the ground and the U.S. Embassy in Lima.”
A person familiar with the move, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive withdrawal, said the volunteers are headed to the Peace Corps’ post in Ecuador.
The decision comes after weeks of popular unrest against a government that has taken over following a failed December coup attempt by a Peruvian president facing impeachment.

It’s a state Democrats have been buzzing about for years as a battleground hotspot — one expected to draw in big spending on the presidential race, a marquee governor’s race and congressional elections that could tip the tightly divided House in 2024.
But the party has never been able to push North Carolina into true tossup-state status like it has with Arizona or Georgia.
Democrats haven’t won the state’s electoral votes since Barack Obama’s heralded 2008 victory. They haven’t won a Senate race since then, either. And while North Carolina has delivered just enough mixed results to make clear it is, in fact, winnable for the party,

Former President Donald Trump hosted the conservative influencers behind Libs of TikTok and The Babylon Bee at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida as part of a new charm offensive as he runs again for president, according to a source with knowledge of the strategy.
In addition to the creator of the controversial Twitter account Libs of TikTok, Trump also hosted Seth Dillon, who owns The Babylon Bee, a conservative political satire website, the source said. Dillon could not immediately be reached for comment.
It was one of the first of many wine-and-dine events that Trump has planned with social media influencers,

Former President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama ramped up their calls for police reform following the release of the video showing the “vicious” beating of Tyre Nichols.
“The vicious, unjustified beating of Tyre Nichols and his ultimate death at the hands of five Memphis police officers is just the latest, painful reminder of how far America still has to go in fixing how we police our streets,” they tweeted Saturday. They said responsibility falls on all people to “mobilize” to create change and included a link to a webpage for the Obama Foundation

The Memphis Police Department Saturday announced that it has "permanently deactivated" its SCORPION unit, one day after the release of shocking video which showed the violent arrest of Tyre Nichols earlier this month. All five former officers involved in Nichols' arrest, who have since been charged with second-degree murder in his death, were part of that unit.
The decision came after Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn "CJ" Davis met with members of the unit Saturday "to discuss the path forward for the department and the community in the aftermath of the tragic death of Tyre Nichols," police said in a statement.

SALEM, N.H. — Former President Donald Trump is tapping outgoing New Hampshire GOP Chair Stephen Stepanek to help oversee his operation in the first-in-the-nation primary state as he pushes back against criticism that his campaign is off to a slow start.
Stepanek, a state co-chair for Trump’s 2016 campaign who went on to serve two terms as head of the state GOP, will serve as a senior adviser focused on New Hampshire, POLITICO first reported. Trump announced the hire during his keynote address at the party’s annual meeting Saturday, where members also selected Stepanek’s successor.

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley told FOX News on Monday evening that it is a "menacing thing" for the FBI to declare that "combatting disinformation" is one of its top priorities, and explained how Elon Musk revealed potential first amendment violations in the bureau's relationship with social media companies like Twitter. (snip)JONATHAN TURLEY, GWU: What’s interesting is that there is really a loss of space in the last few weeks for many of the censorship apologists that are in Congress and the media. For years, they denied there was any censorship, that there was any shadowbanning, there was any blacklist. All of that was just formally denied. Because of Musk, we now know that all of that were lies. That, in fact, there was an extensive censorship system that was being directed in part by the FBI.
