An Iowa school board member posted on Facebook on Tuesday that public education is not to teach kids what parents want, but rather what the community needs.
"The purpose of a public ed is to not teach kids what the parents want. It is to teach them what society needs them to know. The client is not the parent, but the community," Linn-Mar school board member Rachel Wall posted.

Wait a minute, folks! Don't you see that Rachel Wall has neatly articulated the basic conflict in the world today, which is the fight between INDIVIDUALISM and COLLECTIVISM. Anyone who believes the "client" of education is the community is a COLLECTIVIST and anyone who believes the "client" is the parent is an INDIVIDUALIST, which on a national scale is the fight between NATIONALISM and GLOBALISM. Which are you: INDIVIDUALIST or COLLECTIVIST? NATIONALIST or COLLECTIVIST?

As Hillary once said, "it takes a village to raise your kid." Apparently Ms. Wall believed this drivel.

Likewise it is NOT their job to circumvent parents in favor of what individual teachers determine the community needs. And for the record - parents ARE part of the community.

The school board member is correct, except that they are forgetting that the parents are part of that society and are the people most likely to know what society needs the children to learn.
Which is the conservative answer to this liberal talking point.

"The purpose of a public ed is to not teach kids what the parents want. It is to teach them what society needs them to know. The client is not the parent, but the community," sounds like something straight out of John Dewey (basically the father of our modern education system since the very early 20th century). https://www.newsandtimes.com/2016/11/john-dewey-and-molding-the-modern-citizen/

The "client" - be it the community, parents, or student - wants a graduate who can read, write, and perform basic math. Get back to us when you start producing that, Rachel, and we'll talk about adding any fluff to the curriculum.

This is why school boards keep getting called out when their misdeeds are exposed.
Parents are entitled to advocate for the best interests of their children, whether or not school boards, school systems, or educational bureaucracies agree with parental priorities. Some communities are dysfunctional, so the expectation that responsible parents will go along with a harmful political agenda while their students educational needs take a back seat to "equity" (and secrecy) hasn't worked out very well for the promoters of such nonsense.

well, you are as incoherent as a nail Linn-Mar school board member Rachel Wall and fail to understand that the parents pay for your school so they have every right to demand the subjects taught are approved by them, who the hell do you think you are??

Sounds to me like that community needs to upgrade their school board by replacing the 'statist' bureaucrats with new members who represent the parents.

Then being on the school board is not the job for this parasite. Time for "public servants" to learn their place in the hierarchy.
WE ARE YOUR MASTERS
It's past time for tarring and feathering of insubordinate parasites. Examples must be made to show the other parasites that disrespecting your masters will not be tolerated.

This is a perfect example of leftist arrogance. They are so sure of their ideology that they want to be the ones who manipulate and indoctrinate your children, it’s hubris gone mad. They are so sure that they are right that they will shut off your speech, get you fired or send some FBI thugs to your house to ask you why you don’t agree with the narrative. It’s all for your own good, of course. If you have the means and ability, please get your kids out of public schools.

Holy cow. Amazing how fast these perverted people are exposing themselves to the world. I guess they do not fear any kind of reprisals from the parents. Boy I hope parents start proving these evil people wrong.

School choice is the only solution. The parents should be able to take the tax funds to any school of their choice.
