A bronze sculpture called The Embrace honoring Martin Luther King Jr. was unveiled Friday in Boston, but the 20-feet long and 26-feet wide bronze sculpture is drawing a lot of mixed reviews. The bronze structure, designed by conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas, depicts the arms, shoulders, and hands of Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife Coretta Scott King hugging after he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Plenty of social media users joined in to share their confusion about how Thomas designed the sculpture. "I have some questions about the MLK sculpture in Boston," said one social media

I have mixed feelings ranging from shocked to revulsion. How dare they use this disgusting image to represent a great man who inspired the world with his love for all mankind. Take a good hard look people. Can anyone honestly believe this hideous thing is art.

9.5 million dollars could have provided superb educations to students. Boston made a poor choice.

So much crap is sold as "art" these days. I did a good bit of consulting on art conservation at the local art museum, and with the Getty in LA, and....sometimes had to bite my tongue about some of the art, and some of the meetings with the artists required a lot of skill to keep a straight face about their "art" as I learned how it was actually made, because I was in charge of figuring out how to keep it from falling totally apart in the weather.
Sorry, this is crap.

I am offended - this statue must be removed immediately.

It looks like one of the giant bugs in "Starship Troopers." What kind of drugs was this "artist" taking?

#2, you can pump a Trillion dollars into our school system and it is still crap. Our education system is truly broken and money will not fix it. It's going to take determined parents to rip it apart and put it back together right.

The artist(?) forgot their heads. Or maybe to immerse it in a giant tank of urine, like our Savior was depicted, and it was lauded as such great art that noo yawkas lined up around the block to view it.

Look on the bright side, folks. It isn't as bad as "artist"/photographer Andres Serrano's "Immersion" (commonly called P*** Christ) exhibit in 1987.

No heads, no bodies just disembodied arm. It could be anybody's arms. Where is the context? Most students are so ignorant of history it scares me to death. I've met some who have no idea who Lyndon B. Johnson was and they've never heard of The Great Society (the source of many of our woes). Martin Luther King was an inspiring leader and superb orator and he certainly deserves better than this mess. I wonder what his wonderful niece Alveda King thinks of it.

MLK, Jr. was known for his "embrace" alright; not of his wife, but of prostitutes and "other victims," as the FBI discovered.
It's been 55 years since HIS death, and 17 years past his wife's death, which is well past the amount of time allotted ANY American, so release his "raw" FBI files, NOW!

I am surprised blacks remember who he was and what he stood for. But why are they remembering him now? He's been dead since Hector was a pup. Also, don't forget he has another statue in remembrance. I think it is in DC and he looks like a Chinaman.

The artist is clearly talented and the bronze work is very good. I don't know what he was going for.....but the Democrat voters of Boston are the proud owners of this monstrosity.
Enjoy!!

Much better than the one in DC. Public instillations are always difficult because of differences in taste and values, just ask Teddy Roosevelt or Robert E. Lee.
