Michigan Republican John James plots bipartisan
path in polarized House

Original Article

Rep.-elect John James (R-MI) presumed Congress was dysfunctional. The Michigan Republican is nonetheless bewildered by what he’s learning about the institution, and his new colleagues, as he prepares to be sworn into office. Among James’s concerns are House Republicans. Instead of accepting the will of a majority of the GOP conference and preparing to support House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for speaker in a floor vote scheduled for Jan. 3, an obstinate minority are vowing to block the California Republican’s ascension. Their opposition threatens to wreak havoc, delaying the incoming GOP majority from organizing and tackling issues like inflation, public safety, and oversight of President Joe Biden and his administration.

Those five are no different from Nancy Pelosi, trying to cram down on America everything she wants, without the majority wanting it. Whether one likes it or not, in a democracy you have to compromise and get votes and if you scream and demand everything ORRELSE! everyone hates you and your power diminishes. The country does not want what Matt Gaetz wants. Maybe they should but they don't and he should stop grabbing at it.

Re #3 - one of those five is my current Congressional Rep until January 3, 2023 as I was re-districted out of Rep Good's district and now have left wing Dem Jennifer Wexton as my rep. I support 100% of Rep Good's voting record. They're not trying to cram anything down anyone's throats. As I wrote on another thread, it's okay that Pelosi caved to a squad of four radicals but McCarthy is suppose to just ignore these consistently conservative Republicans just because it's his turn?

Yes we must coronate the Invincible Minority Leader right away. We can not possibly delay the new majority from spending more money like drunken democrats and slowing down Uncle Child Molester Joe from his child sex trafficking and satanic ritual abuse and torture of children. Why do you think he is going to the Virgin Islands? That is a major hub of child sex trafficking and he wants a piece of the action. He is not going there for a suntan, body surfing, golf, or fish tacos.

My original take was for Rep. Biggs, Gaetz, et al to get the best deal they could and deal with McCarthy. He's not my first choice, but he probably should have the opportunity to prove that he's not all hat and no cattle. But he should have been able to negotate with that crook, McConnell, to limit any spending bill to end no later than the end of January. Instead, Mitch sold out the new GOP House for that bill which ties the hands of the House until the 2024 fiscal year (October 2023). If he can't deal with the Turtle, what good is McCarthy? Well, that means the GOP can spend a lot of time on oversight and serving a nice cold dish of revenge on the Democrats for their high-handedness the past four years.

Apologies for second post but if McCarthy and the RNC (BTW - does McCarthy still support Ronna McDaniel to continue to lead the RNC?) had done a better job this past mid-term and more Republican Congress people had been elected - he could ignore the five.

James and the other new guy from Texas (both former military) said right after they won that they would be voting for McCarthy. We can't trust anyone these days; they sell out faster than hot out of the oven unsliced sourdough bread. How quick they are to turn, and we get played everywhere the wind blows.

#7, Excellent point on McCarthy pressuring McConnell to make sure the CR went to the end of January, not October 2023. Seems to me that is a no brainer but the old traitorous turtle has a lot of power and he uses against his own party. McCarthy knows not to cross McConnell. If you ask me, the vast majority of our elected representatives are a worthless bunch. The only allegiance they have is to themselves and the fear of the deep state keeps them in line doing the bidding of their corrupt overlords. It’s all an incestuous swamp where you play their game, know your place and do what you are told. There are few patriots and even fewer men and women of integrity. The country is shamed by the whole lot. I honestly do not believe there is enough good guys to defeat the bad guys. Clearly, the will to do anything meaningful is lacking. No one wants to rock the boat. They would rather let it sink than make any attempt to do what needs to be done. I honestly feel like I’m a Third Class passenger on the Titanic knowing it’s going down and can’t do a thing about it.

Former president Donald Trump wasted no time to celebrate after being informed the January 6th’s committee has withdrawn his subpoena to testify as the investigation begins to wind down. The panel's chairman, Missouri Democrat Bennie Thompson, informed Trump's lawyers that the former president will no longer be ‘obligated to comply or produce records’ that were originally requested. 'In light of the imminent end of our investigation, the Select Committee can no longer pursue the specific information covered by the subpoena,' it read. The letter, which was screenshotted and posted by Trump’s lawyer, went on to 'formally withdraw' the subpoena,

What is a woman? It would seem a simple thing to define. According to the Oxford Language Dictionary, a woman is a female adult human being. (Tweet) Yet we’ve seen this movement from the left, a refusal to even define “woman” because somehow having a definition would leave out people who want to believe that they are women when they were born men. Let’s listen to Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson at her hearing in March. (Tweet/Video) So instead you have a rejection of what a woman is then, that there is no real definition,

Just 24 hours after the Supreme Court’s announcement, several of the large groups which had gathered at the border in El Paso, Texas, had dispersed. Before and after photographs also show a stark contrast with the chaotic scenes that have played out through December. The Supreme Court ruled by a 5-4 vote to keep Title 42 in place just hours ahead of its planned end at midnight on Tuesday.

This is one of those stories that you’re certain is from the Babylon Bee, and that is stunning in its implications when it turns out to be the truth. In this case, the truth is that, in accordance with UN and WEF climate recommendations, the city of Oxford (home to the famed university) approved plans mandating that citizens may not drive more than 15 minutes distance from their homes without permission. It’s called the “15 Minute City” and is intended to reduce auto emissions. Mostly, though, it will reduce liberty, which is what climate change madness has always been about.
