Staffers at the New York Times are openly discussing the possibility of a work stoppage as talks with management have reportedly hit an impasse over the unionâs demands for a salary hike.
The guild representing journalists at the newspaper also wants management to commit to an 8% annual salary increase year-over-year for a period of four years.
But management has countered with a significantly smaller hike â a 4% increase for the first year followed by a 2% boost for the following two years, according to Insider.

Hopefully they strike indefinitely forcing the NY Times into bankruptcy and out of business. Unions have a history of doing stuff like that.

But wouldnât a work stoppage be a stoppage of them saving the planet? Donât they care about the planet? Right now itâs the only one we have, ya know.

Normally, I don't favor strikes. But I sure hope this is a long one. Maybe we can find some of those old union enforcers to rough up the scabs.
Nah, that wouldn't work. Those guys gotta be in their 80s now and would only be able to shove them with their walkers.

The NYT staffers want raises to counter the effects of the inflation and bad economy they push everyday.

But if they lose their jobs at the NY Times, can they still be objective reports at Pravda ?

Frankly, I don't think I would even notice...or care if they went on a strike. It'll save some trees, anyways.

I think they should just shut the whole place down permanently.

This "strike" will be the impetus to use tax dollars to bail out typists at bird cage liner factories. Think it won't happen? Think again.

Please go on strike. Even a few weeks without your lies would be a relief. And who knows, maybe youâll spin a couple times around the digital drain and disappear on the ash heap of history to muted applause!

Apparently these NYT employees don't know that employment is not an entitlement. If you don't like your employer, the quickest, most expedient, most effective remedy is to find another employer.

Their readership is shrinking and the employees want more money. By all means, strike.
