SMETHPORT, Pa. — Some Democrats here in rural Pennsylvania are afraid to tell you they’re Democrats. The party’s brand is so toxic in the small towns 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh that some liberals have removed bumper stickers and yard signs and refuse to acknowledge their party affiliation publicly. These Democrats are used to being outnumbered by the local Republican majority, but as their numbers continue to dwindle, the few that remain are feeling increasingly isolated and unwelcome in their own communities. “The hatred for Democrats is just unbelievable,” said Tim Holohan, an accountant based in rural McKean County who

Hatred? Not really. 99% of the blind, spitting hate comes from the Democrats. Two of my neighbors had Biden signs in their yards, but nobody touched them. They are basically nice people and I simply don't agree with their ideology, but nobody conservative that I know would vandalize their signs. I do remember the constant vandalism of Trump signs, the restaurants refusing to serve people with MAGA hats, etc., etc. This is, of course, the AP trying to picture rural and small town citizens as hate-filled bigots.

Didn't Joe Dementia win Pennsylvania by over 80,000 votes? They can always get more fake mail ins or shift the decimal point on the Dominion counting machines. For this reality to be converted into actual electoral results, we must be vigilant. Organize poll watchers. Poll counting observers. Once the first (fake) results are announced it is too late. The courts will do nothing.

These have earned far more than our disgust. I am not sure they should even be considered citizens any more. If they might publicly acknowledge their sins and throw themselves on the mercy of God Himself, then and only then might they BEGIN to right the wrongs they have visited on this once-great nation.

Nice to see an AP article describe the situation in such an unbiased fashion! I'll bet at least one of the Trump supporters even had a pickup truck - maybe with a U.S. flag flying! No wonder this 22-year-old was quaking with fear!

I wouldn't want to see a 1 party rule.
I don't believe it would work
Even if the 1 party was the good guys
Just a few short years ago, had anyone suggested to me that democrats
could engage in such deep, dirt-baggary
I would have called them a conspiracy theorist
"Ah, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now."
Around 73 years of age, my rheumy eyes were opened
Never think you're too old to learn
"Ah, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now. "

THIS rhetoric, right here, published by AP is why there is such a great divide. I promise you that Latina’s fears were all in her mind, driven by writing in articles like this who falsely describe the Jan 6 protest as “violent”. Thousands and thousands of people went to hear Trump speak that day and the atmosphere was wonderful, according to what I read from people who were there, and the videos I watched at that time.
Grrr! The media creates a false narrative that conservatives are dangerous and violent when the opposite is true. I am a conservative refugee from the SF Bay Area and can tell you it is literally far more dangerous for a conservative to be publicly known there than to be a dem in a rural area. To keep your job and safeguard your house and person you have to be undercover. We’ve all read of the high profile people driven from their jobs in Silicon Valley once their conservative leanings became known! Such intolerance I lay at the feet of the media and their Dem masters. They created this!

Well then democrats, maybe you should look at your own party history. You have mocked, spewed hatred and ignorance at us rural folks for at least 35 years. You really don't get it do you? You are starting to reap what you have been sowing for decades now. And will continue to reap your crop of rotted produce for probably decades more.

I certainly hope the GOP doesn't let those claiming to be democrats to get away with sounding moderate or conservative when they simply end up voting the liberal/progressive agenda once elected.
Don't let them try to fool people any longer.
And, if you're a moderate or conservative democrat, stop pretending the party resembles anything close to what it did 20 years ago, much less 30-50 years ago.

The 22 year old latina is hard to believe. My immediate response was that she is a figment of some AP reporter's (who probably has not left center city Chicago since the Carter administration) imagination. Latinos are a significant part of the rural landscape throughout the US. Without them we would mostly starve. They provide a disproportionate percentage of American farm labor and their contribution is one that needs to be addressed in a revamped legal immigration system. They are essential, and productive members of our society, unlike many of the far left SWJ's preaching to the AP.
She is certainly no local pariah because of her race, her political attitudes, on the other hand....
And to all the rest? Tough, I was pretty much forced to live in the closet in MA for 2 decades because of the ramped up leftwing hatred machine. You don't see Trump stickers on MA cars, not because we didn't exist, we just liked our paint jobs intact. I cannot count the number of times friends, reasonable and generally good people, would suddenly spout some incredibly over the top stupid right wingers are all fascist type nonsense in crowded social situations, secure in the mistaken knowledge that their drivel would be extolled as virtuos and wise in the echo chamber. They were so completely indoctrinated in this mindset that they did not even realize how bigoted and often vitriolic their statements could be. Many were absolutely stunned that anyone could even have another opinion, and their conception of rural America was entirely informed by reruns of The Beverly Hillbillies and The Dukes of Hazard. Very sad.

The only thing different between the "moderate" dems and the progressives that are pushing the party over a cliff is that the progressives are more in-your-face. They all believe in the same thing, power. The "moderates" are just more patient and sneaky while they lie to your face. It's great that the progressives have ripped off their masks so we can see what the party really is.
And BTW, Trump is the one that forced them to expose themselves.

I live in rural southern Indiana. One neighbor at the end of the road always has Dems signs and support public schools signs and no one bothers the signs and are friendly to the them. The rest of us on the road are Republicans -- farmers, working people, hunters, conservative. When you drive into town is where the Dems live and you dare not identify as Republican there. When my parents got older they moved into town for an easier life and when they put up their sign for a Republican candidate it was stolen. I, of course, went and got them a replacement sign that was even bigger.

The Democrats have only one course of action open to them at this point of self-destruction. They need to cancel, or nullify, or in some way render the midterms null and void. It will be a blood bath for them, everyone knows it, and they know it. But they are so deep-down power hungry and deceitful, they are not going to just amble on into the electoral wood chipper.
What will they do? It's an interesting question, and I hope that some Republicans are thinking hard about it so that it does not come as a great surprise.

This is the AP. So you know the object is to slime the haters (conservatives). So start at the top. . . .
. . . and there it is:
Democrats have been effectively ostracized from the overwhelmingly white parts of rural America
It's white folks hating on that poor scared Latina (have they stopped with the "Latinx" now?) and it's white folks hating on those scared liberals.
The AP is like the WaPost or The Atlantic now. They may start with an interesting idea of even a bit of news, but you always know—always—where they are going to go. Always.

I grew up in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. When I was a kid (60s, 70s) the county was so Democrat/union that I think the County Courthouse had an Old Style beer sign saying "Democrat County HQ". Republicans were even more rare than blacks (and the county had a black pop. Of 8). 2020 . Trump won 70-30. There are a lot of old dead Dems spinning in their Graves through the county.
