Longtime U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Dallas, announced Saturday she is not running for reelection after serving nearly three decades in Congress. “I have gone back and forth … the whole time because of the pleading and the asking, but as of January … the year after next, I will step down,” Johnson said during an event in Dallas. "I will retire, and let me assure that I will also recommend to you whom I feel is the best to follow me." Johnson added she is looking for a "female that is qualified." First elected to Congress in 1992, Johnson

President Joe Biden celebrates his 79th birthday on Saturday, November 20 by marking a new milestone in presidential history but likely adding to speculation about his own political future. Biden was already the oldest person ever to serve as president but now he's 79-years-old, he's set another new record for the greatest age reached by any serving commander in chief. (Snip) Critics have previously cited Biden's age as a cause for concern, with some calling on him to take a cognitive test and others openly suggesting there are problems with the president's mental acuity. Biden reportedly did not undergo a cognitive

Mark Richards, Kyle Rittenhouse's criminal defense attorney, told Insider that he has received so many death threats that he was no longer using his own cellphone. Richards said that he "can't count" the number of death threats he's received recently. "It's too high," he added. The attorney has since taken to using his wife's cellphone, which he used to speak to Insider, but added that her number has also been targeted by people making death threats. Richards said: "I would love for things to change, for people to talk to one another without fighting, but, unfortunately, I don't see it

Police opened fire on anti-lockdown protesters in the Dutch city of Rotterdam Friday as several European cities braced for further demonstrations against new Covid restrictions over the weekend. “On a number of occasions the police felt it necessary to draw their weapons to defend themselves,” Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb told reporters after protesters tore through the city’s central shopping district, setting fires in their wake. Describing the scenes as "an orgy of violence," he added that “people were injured,” after officers "shot at protesters," although he could not provide information on the extent of their injuries. At least seven people

Prominent Democrats, progressives, and left-leaning groups erupted Friday following Kyle Rittenhouse's acquittal on all charges in his closely watched trial in Kenosha, Wis., calling it a miscarriage of justice. (Snip) New York City Mayor Bill deBlasio, D., fumed over the verdict. ''Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum are victims. They should be alive today. The only reason they’re not is because a violent, dangerous man chose to take a gun across state lines and start shooting people. To call this a miscarriage of justice is an understatement," he said. Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat, N.Y., called Rittenhouse a "murderer" whose "white tears"

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Dr. Inbal Cohen-Rasner is an award-winning composer, mother of two, and radiologist, who is used to making diagnoses, not receiving them. “How scary is it?” asked Acton News Jax Ben Becker. “I was devastated,” Cohen-Rasner said. Cohen-Rasner said in September she was diagnosed in both ears with sudden sensorineural hearing loss – about a week after receiving the Moderna booster shot following a short bout with the common cold. “Most of the doctors think it was viral or auto-immune,” Cohen-Rasner said. “What do you think?” asked Becker. “I don’t know yet. President Biden will transfer power to Vice President Kamala Harris Friday morning for the "brief period of time" when he is under anesthesia for a "routine" colonoscopy at Walter Reed Medical Center, the White House said Friday. The president traveled to Bethesda, Maryland, for a physical exam, one day before his 79th birthday. Biden arrived at 8:51 a.m. ET and waved to reporters who were traveling with him. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Biden will also undergo a colonoscopy while there. "As was the case when President George W. Bush had the same procedure in 2002 and

The reemergence of Beto O’Rourke, this time as a candidate for Texas governor, is further proof that we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel for saviors to rise from these streets. Once a rising star, O’Rourke is likely to end his bid to replace Texas Gov. Greg Abbott as a three-time loser. (Snip) Aside from losing elections, he also lost his way. Between 2018 and today, O’Rourke transitioned multiple times from affable “nice guy” to “cool” Gen-Xer to angry woke progressive. “On issues like universal health care, an assault weapons ban, abortion rights and a higher minimum wage,” wrote NPR’s

America's recovery from the delta variant surge dropped the pace of new infections to under 500,000 per week in late October. Now cases are above 600,000 per week and are rising in 34 states, a USA TODAY analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. The numbers are not close to January, when weekly infections peaked at 1.7 million. But the recovery from one wave has reversed into another wave, more than six months after free, safe, effective vaccines became widely available to all adults. The United States is again reporting an average of more than 1 case every second. Unvaccinated

President Joe Biden on Wednesday called on the Federal Trade Commission to investigate if "illegal conduct" is to blame for surging gas prices hurting Americans' pocketbooks. Fuel prices are averaging above $3.40 a gallon, according to the American Automotive Association, which forecasts more than 48 million Americans are likely to hit the road next week to drive to Thanksgiving celebrations. "The bottom line is this: gasoline prices at the pump remain high, even though oil and gas companies' costs are declining. The Federal Trade Commission has authority to consider whether illegal conduct is costing families at the pump. I believe
