CHESTER, Mont. — Trevor Fossen was running late for a wedding Saturday afternoon when he turned onto a dusty, gravel road in rural Montana as a westbound train approached the crossing in front of him. The train never made it to the crossing. The next thing Fossen saw was a wall of dust fill the sky. “I started looking at that, wondering what it was, and then I saw the train had tipped over and derailed,” said Fossen, a 29-year-old farmer. It was an Amtrak Empire Builder en route from Chicago to Seattle that had derailed, killing three people and

I found myself rereading the paragraphs describing the response by the local folks. I could see it all my mind and thought, "This is the America I love!" In the last 22 years here on the homestead we've experienced several emergencies that brought our town (17 miles south) and county together to meet the need. TK has been involved in the response with the them all, from our neighborhood to the county level. (His life vocation is being a sheepdog.) Every winter in our mountain subdivision crews of neighbors band together to keep the roads cleared of fallen trees and limbs. Just about every guy in this county as a chainsaw in the back of his truck! This is the America I love. The evil commies shall not have her. MAGA

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — Pro-choice messaging and anarchist symbols were found spray painted on the building of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Boulder County on Wednesday morning. "It was way worse than I had pictured in my mind," said Mark Evevard, the youth director at the church. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office said the vandalism happened at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The vandalism was discovered along a truck in the parking lot and church signs on the property. Parishioners believe the destruction is likely in response to the white crosses on the church lawn that symbolize the

Democratic anger is growing with Krysten Sinema, blaming her as the sole reason for holding up Joe Biden's $3.5 trillion social agenda as the party demands to know what the Arizona Democratic senator wants in exchange for her support. 'The president keeps begging her, tell us what you want. Put a proposal forward,' progressive Rep. Ro Khanna told CNN, adding that neither moderates nor liberals can name her demands. All eyes are turning to the 45-year-old senator, known for wearing candy-colored wigs during the COVID pandemic because she couldn't get her hair dyed, competing in Ironmans and touting her personal

WASHINGTON - U.S. congressional Democrats are considering including the first federal fee to tackle plastic pollution in the multitrillion-dollar reconciliation bill, a proposal that is drawing opposition from the plastics and petrochemical industry. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Representative Tom Suozzi are in talks with other Democrats to include their REDUCE Act as a source of revenue in the reconciliation bill. It would impose a 20-cent-per-pound fee on virgin - or new - plastic for single-use products such as plastic bags and beverage containers. The proposal is among a slew of money raisers being considered by the White House and Democrats to pay for

Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia has just put out a statement that serves as a sequel to his recent Wall Street Journal piece. “While I am hopeful that common ground can be found that would result in another historic investment in our nation,” Manchin notes, “I cannot — and will not — support trillions in spending or an all or nothing approach that ignores the brutal fiscal reality our nation faces.” As it should be, that “brutal fiscal reality” is clearly weighing on Manchin: Every Member of Congress has a solemn duty to vote for what they believe is

Vaccination rates among people who are pregnant have been low, despite evidence that vaccines can prevent the "severe risk of severe disease" posed to pregnant people from COVID-19. Only 18% of pregnant people have received a dose, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data. While new data shows overall racial disparities in COVID-19 vaccinations are improving, federal numbers show pregnant Black people are the least vaccinated compared to those expecting in other races. Just 15% of Black pregnant people are fully vaccinated and only 13% have received at least one dose, according to the CDC. Women giving birth

New York - Americans should brace for sticker shock on home heating costs as temperatures drop this fall and winter. Prices for natural gas, the most common way to heat homes and a leading fuel source for generating electricity, have surged more than 180% over the past 12 months to $5.90 per million British thermal units. Natural gas hasn't been this expensive since February 2014. The risk is that an early winter or extremely cold fall temperatures will force households to crank up the heat. That would further shrink the nation's below-average stockpiles of natural gas and could lift prices even

The U.S. housing market has been on fire, with the pandemic fueling intense demand for suburban homes.
