LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Wildlife trappers have captured and removed at least 226 nuisance alligators from Walt Disney World property since a toddler was killed by an alligator at a Disney resort nearly five years ago, state records show. Lane Thomas Graves, 2, was building sandcastles on the beach outside Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort on June 14, 2016, when an alligator lunged out of the Seven Seas Lagoon as the toddler bent over to scoop up water with a bucket, a state investigation concluded. Over the eight years prior to the child’s death, state-contracted wildlife trappers removed an average

With the proper propaganda campaign this could be branded as the most heinous act ever committed on earth. The snowflakes would need more pot.

Disney's woke world view will do more to harm children than a gaggle of gators.

When I first lived in gator country in the early 60s, you never, ever worried about them because for the previous 150 years they had been treated exactly the same way all large predators were treated....shot on sight. They were few, and small, too small to attack a human. I never saw a gator over 3-4 ft in the wild until the middle 70s when a few of them, protected for 10 years or so from hunting, had reached 6 ft or a few rare ones, in remote swamps, maybe 7 or even 8 ft.
Today, LOTS of 8 ft gators in the state, and MANY near where people live. And bigger ones are out there, too.
Like the reintroduction of wolves, the ecofreaks really don't care at all if a few people get eaten. They are entirely uninterested in human lives being lost, and TOTALLY focused on animals roaming free and doing whatever that is....killing our game animals, killing our livestock...and even killing our children and us. They literally do not care about human lives lost, other than possible negative PR value.

The American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) thrives in all 67 Florida counties. Even it is eradicated in certain places, it will return if there is enough food. Incidentally, people are potential gator food, and should refrain from swimming in all Florida lakes and rivers. Disney had to get the alligators away from their park guests. Having a sand castle building 2-year-old guest culled by a gator is really not acceptable.
During the 'Eighties and 'Nineties my professional golf mini-tour played at least two dozen events at Walt Disney World's Magnolia, Palm, and Lake Buena Vista courses. If you looked in the right (wrong) places, you could always find a few of those toothsome reptiles. In about 1987 on the ninth hole of Innisbrook Island Course (Copperhead's sister course) a pro had hit his approach shot left and short of the green within two feet of a large lake. His ball was lying cleanly with a clear shot toward the hole, so why was he waving for me, sitting up the hill in a golf cart, wanting a ruling? When I got within a hundred yards I saw what the commotion was about. A huge alligator, later trapped and measured at 13 feet, weighing some 900 pounds, was sunning, half in and half out of the water. Its head was 18 inches from the player's ball. The player abandoned his ball and got complete relief from the dangerous animal, no nearer the hole, no penalty stroke, about thirty yards away in the center of the fairway. That gator was king of the vicinity, and when you saw him, you weren't going to argue the point. He would be glad to rip off a few chucks of you or me. That's what we're for in his territory.

All Alligators are nuisance Alligators. Once they become shoes, belts handbags or gator nuggets...they become useful Alligators. Sarcasm? You be the judge.

Pure irresponsibility from the get go ,where there is water there are gators. That poor child should never have lost his life ...hell this is Florida , we find gators in swimming pools .

#7, that didn't used to be true, and could be corrected once again. A .22 rifle kills a gator quite nicely if used for a brain shot.

I agree that all alligators should be shot on sight. Same with wolves and poisonous snakes. Most of the "nature lovers" who just love all these cuddly creatures live in the cities and never have to come in contact with them.

#2 and others are right. The greatest danger of Disney is not alligators.

I remember when this happened. There were lots of people back then too blaming the father for not knowing better. We all have had a false sense of security about things but seeing your small child eaten by a gator is a punishment I wouldn’t wish on any parent. I hope he’s found some sense of peace about this.

Rule #1 you learn as a Florida kid... if it is a body of fresh water from puddle to pond to lake, assume it has gators in it.

#13, probably a good rule now....was NOT the case when I was a teen and adult in Fla. We swam in lakes, canoed in the creeks and spring runs, swam and dove in the springs.
A good number of those places have become somewhere between "iffy" and "you'd be nuts to swim there" in the last 25-30 years. I still canoe in places where we regularly see them. But I always go armed in the canoe.

The rules are very simple in FL. Fresh water has gators and turtles. Salt Water has Sharks, Jellys and Stingray. And the land has snakes and yellowflies.

Great OLD story: Couple dozen former Green Berets partying one evening at the home of one. He invited everyone to the pool behind the house. In the pool was a large gator. He owner offered his Rolex to anyone who would jump in and wrestle the gator. SPLASH! A big-bellied former SOG veteran and the gator were going at it. Finally when it appeared that the SOG veteran had broken the gator's neck, he climbed out of the pool, The host took off his Rolex and handed to the big-bellied SOG vet who said "I don't want your damned Roxex." The host said, "OK. You earned it. \What the hell do you want?"
The answer: "I just want to know which one of you sons of bitches pushed me in."
