Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court by the Senate Monday evening, filling the vacancy left by liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The vote was nearly entirely along party lines: Senator Susan Collins of Maine was the only Republican to dissent, voting with all 47 members of the Democratic Caucus against the conservative Trump nominee over concerns of the proximity to the election.
The final vote was 52-48.
"Because this vote is occurring prior to the election, I will vote against the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett," Collins said in a statement over the weekend.

Collins got a special exemption because we didn't need her to potentially harm her election chances with a vote.

Very good news!
And, there was NO hypocrisy either, Obama was in the last year of his 2nd term, and did not have the Senate.
Amazingly, if you follow Ginsberg's comments, she states the next president, which if Trump wins, would mean it would remain vacant until the next president, right?
She didn't say the next election.

Susan Collins, you're an embarrassment without constitutional and moral clarity.

I am personally totally fine with her vote. Smart politics.
Her vote made absolutely zero difference in the President's selection being confirmed, and that vote may help her (and us) to retain that Senate seat.
Politics is the art of the possible, and it was not smart to ask Collins to increase the chsnce to lose her seat unnecessarily. IMO, this is smart politics.
She may lose anyway, but increasing her chances of losing that seat, and possibly the Senate for no good reason is dumb.

Collins has already lost. The liberals will not vote for her because of her Kavenaugh vote, and the conservatives are done with her "Muh principles" foolishness.
This was not principled. This was some kind of tantrum because Orange Man will not roll over as past GOPers did.

There's always 1 RINO out there. Romney was it during the impeachment.

I don’t think God fearing Mainers appreciate her cute politics. Collins is pro-choice and she would never vote for Judge Amy. Hopefully, Maine Republicans will dump Collins soon.

Amy Barrett's credentials speak for themselves. She is certainly qualified to serve as a Justice on the US Supreme Court, and no one on either side of the political aisle found anything lacking in her. Any issues with her confirmation are solely due to political posturing, not merit. #1 I respectfully disagree with your reasoning about Collins actions being about self-preservation. That Senate seat belongs to We, The People, not Susan Collins. Too many politicians makes decisions based upon their shelf life, not upon the will of the people. If Collins was a supporter of the U.S. Constitution as it is written, she should have voted to confirm. Instead, she chose to stand with those who want to tear down the Constitution. Just my opinion

#11, politics is about WINNING. Insisting on a Senator committing political suicide for no good political reason, only blind doctrine, is how you LOSE.

#1, I don't think that following the U.S. Constitution is blind doctrine. That is what the Left wants everybody to think. If Collins seat is up for grabs, then maybe she should step aside and let a more robust Republican run for it.

If Republicans cannot find a replacement to Collins, they should be ashamed. Let her loose. Find N.C. a “true conservative “

It took me a dozen years working with state legislators to pass a concealed carry law to teach me that WINNING is what you want. And being a hard nose in a way which doesn't directly advance your political cause, and especially in a way which may be ideologically satisfying but politically counterproductive is seriously dumb.
It took some good talking from a good friend who was politically more saavy than I was to get past my own hard headed insistence on political purity.
I used to think just like some of you, believe me.
Politics is the art of the possible, and insistence on ideological purity to the detriment of the political longer game is dumb.

Well, I can't, with good conscience, send campaign funds to Ms. Collins, even though she asks every day!

I was literally in tears watching Clarence Thomas swear in this phenomenal AccociatemJustice Of The Supreme Court! We have waited for 40 years and finally our wonderful POTUS has delivered a solid conservative majority! Gone are the Obama majority opinions! Protect this woman with Seal Team 6 and Delta Force at all times!
