RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Republican state Sen. Siobhan Dunnavant wanted to avoid talking about President Donald Trump as she courted voters this week on Ridgefield Green Way just outside Virginia's capital city. The middle-aged man at one door didn't want to talk about anything else.
"I've only got one question. Do you support Trump?" he asked.
"Yes," Dunnavant replied.
"Then you've got my vote," he said.
On the sidewalk a few minutes later, Dunnavant actively distanced herself from the Republican president, acknowledging he is deeply unpopular in her district — despite the doorway encounter. The 55-year-old OB-GYN said she'd prefer that Trump stay out of Virginia ahead of Tuesday's high-stakes elections.

So, the guy in the opening paragraph who is going to vote for her because she supports Trump.....? Is he an anomaly? Why is he even mentioned in the column?

I have lived in the northern Virginia suburbs since 1983. In that time the area has transformed from a solid center to left wing and is now approaching the lunatic left. I see three reasons: great wealth, directly due to Federal Govt employment and contracts, which forces dependence on the govt; massive influx of foreigners and Yankees who bring their anti-American views and habits with them ( and I am a Yankee from Chicago, but never had those views and habits); and school boards dominated by Soros-funded lackeys who change curricula from academic content to crackpottery like global warming and gender liquidity.
So I believe the story is correct.

He who distances himself from Trump commits electoral suicide.

Some of my family lives in the Maryland suburbs and consider themselves Republican. They really hate Trump. His tweets have not won them over, nor have his comments. Last election they voted 3rd party or refused to vote. They won't vote for him this election either.

Depends on WHERE in Virginia. The answer in some suburbs is Yes. In others, NO.

Is this woman the best candidate the Republicans can offer? Such as she is the reason some are reluctant to contribute when asked. We want candidates who wholeheartedly (not for their own careers) back our great president.

Treating the Democrat Party like the are the "Loyal Opposition" is what has gotten us to where we are today. If Ms.Dunnavant thinks she can wear the mantle of Republican without backing the leader of the Party, she's sadly mistaken.
Anyone who tells a constituent they back Trump, then tells the Media that he is bad for the Virginia elections, is playing both sides of the street. It's time to lead, follow, or get out of the way.

OH please AP there might not even be an election. I can guarantee you that Andrew Weissmann and Jeannie Rhee (Mueller's Firm & Clinton Foundation lawyer) were the ones running the hoax from the beginning and if you don't think the Democrat Party is knee deep in this betrayal then make sure you have a lot of Kleenex on hand. The manic actions by the Progressive will soon be seen for what they are, Seditious in the name and a Clear and Present Danger. Obama, Yates, Power, Rice, Page, Ohr, McCabe, Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Rosenstein, Mueller and team, the FISA court, DOJ & FBI and the Judiciary and all the cast of characters.. Need I go on? How do you have an election with a Party that rejected the previous and attempted to overthrow it? Seriously? Why do you think they are throwing every degenerate lie and treachery at us. It's over but for the evening raids.

I think the lady is not reading the tea leaves. For those who have eyes to see, there is an undercurrent of anger and frustration building "out there" at what's going on, and it will explode next November in the Democrats' faces..
