I’m often darkly amused by common examples of inherently false nomenclature: “Jumbo shrimp.” “Government ethics.” “Unbiased news media.” And one of our society’s biggest falsehoods-in-a-name: “Non-governmental organizations.” Until recently these groups have been widely seen as international, idealized versions of domestic non-profits. We thought of them as do-good organizations set up by people who really care — about the environment, or poor people, or children, or freedom. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) is frantically backpedaling after his ill-conceived El Salvador publicity stunt blew up in his face. The Maryland Democrat, who initially trumpeted his mission to "rescue" a deported MS-13 gang member, is now desperately trying to rewrite the script of his adventure gone wrong.
When Van Hollen first landed in the country, he couldn't wait to broadcast his virtuous mission to the world. "I just landed in San Salvador," he proclaimed proudly, promising to secure the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, whom he claimed was "illegally abducted."
Democratic National Committee Vice Chair David Hogg said Friday on CNN’s “The Lead” that Democratic strategist James Carville believed in “timid” politics.
Host Jake Tapper said, “Let’s talk about what you did this week raising a lot of eyebrows here in Washington, D.J. You announced this week you’re the Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee, but you’re raising $20 million to boost primary challengers running in safe Democratic seats against incumbent Democrats.”
He added, “Here’s James Carville.”
President Donald Trump wants to help illegal migrants self-deport from the United States as some of his supporters complain about the slower-than-hoped pace of deportations and Democrats launch a massive resistance.
“We’re doing a self-deportation [program], and we’re going to make it comfortable for people, and we’re going to work with those people to come back into our country legally — the good ones,” Trump told the Spanish-language division of Fox News. He added:
