The financial markets have been tanked by the threat of economic damage from President Trump’s tariffs–or that is the narrative, anyway. Democrats are hoping for a full-blown recession, which they are already labeling the “Trump recession.” But perhaps stocks have mostly pulled back a little from high valuations, as happens all the time. As of today, the Dow is down 3.3% from January 20, when Trump was inaugurated. The S&P is down 4.6%, and the tech-heavy NASDAQ, whose companies are least likely to be affected by tariffs, but whose prices were generally considered to be most over-valued a few months ago, is down 7.9%. Not exactly Black Tuesday territory,

President Trump on Wednesday said he will put a 25% tariff on automobiles imported into the U.S., escalating his administration's use of aggressive trade measures in an effort to boost domestic manufacturers.

The Supreme Court upheld the Biden administration’s regulations on “ghost guns” Wednesday, finding that guns assembled using at-home kits are subject to the same rules as traditional firearms, including requirements that they carry a serial number and that purchasers undergo a federal background check before buying them.
The justices ruled 7-2 in Garland v. VanDerStok to preserve rules imposed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in 2022 to combat what the government called an explosion of “ghost gun” usage in criminal activity. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented.

I consume a lot of media in the course of my day job. So, I was mildly surprised to discover how robust the President’s job approval numbers are, so far. Rasmussen Reports still does a daily poll, and today’s figure has Trump at 51 percent approval. In fact, at no point since his second term began in January has Trump’s approval level fallen below 50 percent.
RealClearPolitics’ poll of polls tells the same story, where Trump is about breakeven.
This result stands in sharp contrast to the first Trump term,

According to the piece, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance, State Secretary Marco Rubio, Waltz, and several others discussed plans for an airstrike on the Houthis in Yemen.
Goldberg claimed Waltz added him to the chat without knowing who he was, which has prompted criticism and calls for Waltz to resign.
A senior political adviser to President Trump slapped the Daily Beast with a defamation lawsuit over its reporting on how much he was paid by the campaign.
Chris LaCivita, a manager of Trump’s re-election campaign, claims the Barry Diller-owned tabloid news site created “the false impression” that he was “personally profiting excessively from his work on the campaign and that he was prioritizing personal gain over the campaign’s success,” according to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on Monday.
The lawsuit stems from the Daily Beast’s article published on October 15, 2024, with the headline: “Trump In Cash Crisis-As Campaign Chief’s $22m Pay Revealed.”

Computer security is fun if you have a mind to enjoy it. Even regular intelligence and counterintelligence is fun, at least when something interesting is happening. (I've seen lots of highly classified information over the years, and I promise you, most of it is better than Ambien.)
Of course, this week's attempt at hysterical "Trump's people are morons" is based on the "leak" of a Signal chat that included Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic on a chatroom conversation among a bunch of senior administration officials.
