Bud Light's Super Bowl Hail Mary Was a

As anyone even halfway aware of Bud Light’s financial woes since putting Dylan Mulvaney on one their cans predicted, their attempt to reclaim their domination of the beer market via funny Super Bowl ads did not have the intended result. If anything, it was a waste of a $7 million plus brand rehabilitation effort. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that, despite the astronomical amounts of money Anheuser-Busch expended on the prime ad space of the Super Bowl, the company’s attempt to boost their flagging sales “barely moved the needle.”

I taped the Super Bowl because I would have fell asleep during it. I wanted to see all the ads. Guess what? I wasted my time watching it. It was a complete dud. And the Bud Light commercial did not show what the pre-ads showed. It WAS disappointing. All the other ads were complete trash.

Hey, Bud Lite, you messed with the wrong consumers and are now reaping the whirlwind. Go back, make a better beer and then see if you can win consumers over. FYI: I am not a beer drinker, but I have heard their beer is not good. Clearly, their beer was not so great and their consumers have found a better substitute. All their customers needed was a reason to try something else and Bud Lite gave it to them!

Re #2, exactly right. And there is a great precedent in the saga of Smith & Wesson. Smith & Wesson, an innovative American gun maker who literally invented the first self-contained metallic cartridge (.22 short) and made the first cartridge revolvers ever in the 1850s, was sold to the British in 1987. And by the spring of 2000 the idiot Brits had made a gun control deal with the anti-gun Dems and BillyJeff Clinton. S&W's angry customers just STOPPED buying S&W guns. Sales tanked unbelievably, and the company began to rapidly lose money and struggle financially. The Brits in charge couldn't imagine that just "a bit of gun control" could anger Americans so much. But it did, it's an American thing, and Brits just can't grasp it. . By the spring of 2001 (only about a year) the Brits had figured out that they had absolutely screwed up "royally" and decided to sell the company while there was still something to sell. They sold out to an American buyer. The NEW S&W negated the Clinton deal and had a bit of trouble convincing buyers of their change in outlook, but the company has been a strong AMERICAN gun maker and supporter of the Second Amendment ever since. And in 2023 S&W began their move to Maryville, Tennessee after having been in Springfield, Massachusetts since the 1850s, but finding the NE to be a hotbed of antigun sentiment, so time to move to a friendly state. Yep, sell A-B back to Americans and they can fix up the problem in the board room brought on by the Euroweenies..

Bryan Caplan, professor of economics in George Mason University’s excellent economics department, has a long article out today with the James Martin Center about the attempt to impose a mandatory “Just Societies” course for all students at George Mason starting next fall, and the course is a total ideological DEI wokefest. He also has a separate Substack article that goes into lengthy detail. Partly because Caplan blew the whistle on this Orwellian outrage, the course requirement is on hold for the moment, pending “review” by the administration. And naturally the DEI campus Stasi is threatening to “review” Prof. Caplan for this offense.

Boeing is in talks to buy its struggling former subsidiary Spirit AeroSystems, as both companies try to solve persistent quality problems and contain costs related to 737 MAX production, an industry source familiar with the matter said on Friday. A merger would bring Spirit back under the umbrella of Boeing, which spun it off in 2005 and in recent years has struggled with cost pressures and problems that have slowed aircraft deliveries and thinned its balance sheet. Spirit has hired bankers to explore strategic options and has had preliminary discussions with Boeing, the Journal reported earlier on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. Boeing and Spirit declined to comment.
