Senate passes stopgap funding bill day
before shutdown deadline

The Senate on Thursday passed a two-step stopgap to keep the government funded into March, as lawmakers try to quickly tie up their funding work ahead of a looming shutdown deadline and forecasts of inclement weather on Friday. The Senate voted 77-18 to pass the bill on Thursday afternoon, sending the legislation to the House, which is expected to vote later in the day. As part of the previous stopgap measure passed in November, Congress faces a Jan. 19 deadline to extend funding for agencies that fall under four of the 12 annual funding bills or risk a partial government shutdown.

United States Constitution - Article I Section 7: "All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills." Their bill is unconstitutional.

Update: I referred to the Senate business and found that the BS being pulled here is tied to a House Bill that was agreed to and sent to the Senate. It is H.R.2872. The official title of the bill is this - I kid you not - "To amend the Permanent Electronic Duck Stamp Act of 2013 to allow States to issue electronic stamps under such Act, and for other purposes." This is all being attached to a bill to change the Permanent Electronic Duck Stamp Act! This is some serious late Roman Empire senate type crap. Does anyone believe we have a nation of laws? Does anyone believe we are represented at all? Does anyone believe that the United States Constitution is anything more than a page from and old Sears catalog that they use to wipe their arses with? Folks, it's not a matter of if, but when.

How long has the House and Senate know that he 2023-2024 Budget was due (on September 30, 2023)? They had years to do the budget. It is not like the budget due date ever changes! Yet, every year, we get the same continuing resolution after continuing resolution followed by some giant omnibus spending bill that nobody has read long past the original due date. This is ridiculous! If the US Congress were publicly traded US Corporations, the Congress would have the SEC going after them for financial mismanagement and fraud. No budgets, no Congressional pay. There is no excuse for each spending bill to be passed, on it's own, without the political games being played evry year.

#1, thats how we got NoBamaCare! The Congress piddled around until CHIRSTMAS EVE 2010 when the November elections repudiated the spending and in 2011 the House would be REPUBLICAN controlled... the Senate bill for NoBamaCare was just rubber stamped by the House so they could go home. It did NOT come from the House of Representatives, and should have been Constitutionally considered ILLEGAL but John Roberts considered it a "tax" and we've been stuck with it ever since. The 'republicans' ha ve "show votes" to "vote against it" but no action is ever taken. NOW they want to insure the health of 8 Million Illegals and YOU PAY FOR IT.

The stock market keeps scaling new heights as investors focus on the good and ignore the bad, no matter how bad the bad parts might look sometimes. Prospects for a slowing economy, geopolitical unrest and turmoil in Washington aren't scaring market participants largely because none of those threats have turned into much in reality. What instead has taken center stage is an economy performing remarkably well, inflation pulling back and a run of positive developments in Big Tech that has outweighed any what-ifs that the market has had to endure. "If investors are looking for a reason to be negative, it's hard to find," said Mitchell Goldberg, president of ClientFirst Strategy,

WASHINGTON, - U.S. consumer sentiment improved in January, hitting the highest level in 2-1/2 years amid growing optimism over the outlook for inflation and household incomes, which bodes well for the economy's prospects this year. The better-than-expected reading in sentiment reported by the University of Michigan on Friday reflected a brightening of moods across all age and income groups, education and geographical locations as well as political affiliation. It suggested that Americans were finally warming up to the economy's resilience after much anxiety over high inflation, which has weighed on President Joe Biden's popularity. Consumers' inflation expectations over the next 12 months were the lowest in three years,

President Biden said many of the borrowers impacted by his latest student loan debt handout are public sector workers, like teachers and firefighters, who will have their debt erased after 10 years of public service. Nearly 30,000 borrowers impacted have been in repayment for at least 20 years "but never got the relief they earned through income-driven repayment plans," Biden said. The latest round of student debt cancelation brings the total amount canceled under Biden to $136.6 billion for more than 3.7 million Americans,

Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week that Israel cannot defeat Hamas — that there is no “military solution,” and that Israel will have to accept a Palestinian state. Netanyahu reportedly rejected the idea. NBC News reported Wednesday that Blinken, and Biden, are therefore trying to work around Netanyahu — the democratically-elected leader of Israel — in a departure from the Biden administration’s posture as the supposed defender of democratic ideals: Blinken told Netanyahu that ultimately there is no military solution to Hamas, according to the officials, and that the Israeli leader needs to recognize that or history will repeat itself and violence will continue.
