From Memphis comes word that Rhodes College alumni were whipped into a frenzy over a BDSM lecture that was set to be hosted by the school's chaplain. (snip) Beatrix Weil, the chaplain at (the) Memphis-based school, had posted a message inviting students to attend a seminar titled, "BDSM 101." And, no, that's not an acronym for "Best Darned Spiritual Mentor." (snip) "We canceled the proposed event Friday as soon as it came to our attention," a college spokesperson told me. "It was not a college-sanctioned event."

Good grief. The start of Luke 17 is the Gospel reading from today's Mass Jesus said to his disciples, "Things that cause sin will inevitably occur, but woe to the one through whom they occur. It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. "These little ones" is a figure of speech referring to new disciples or converts. I think most priests consider that Gospel passage as a -warning-, not as an invitation.

How times have changed! Back when I attended a Christian college, there was no need for lectures or workshops on any kind of sexual behavior. Everything was covered by one word: “Don’t.” Or at most one phrase: “Don’t even think about it.”

This is just more lunacy from Rhodes College. In 2015, they hired a avowed racist Zandria Robinson for a faculty position in the Anthropology and Sociology Department. Robinson wrote a number of racist tweets, including "whiteness is most certainly and inevitably terrorism," and other gems on Twitter. Clearly, Rhodes has learned nothing in the interim.

This Presbyterian college had compulsory Chapel until the early seventies. “Man in the Light of History and Religion” was a required course. This saddens me deeply.

An FBI investigation into an alleged child predator that was halted after the Capitol riots of Jan. 6, 2021, languished for almost three years before the man was finally apprehended in October 2023, according to court documents. Brogan Welsh, 31, allegedly communicated with an undercover FBI agent in December 2020 about having sexual relations with a 9-year-old boy, but the investigation stopped after the Capitol riots, according to the criminal complaint. The Anchorage FBI later caught Welsh allegedly living with a 10-year-old boy in Alaska in October 2023, through a different investigation, and arrested Welsh on suspicion of distribution of child pornography.

When Hunter Biden's foreign business deals began drying up amid his recovery from addiction and his father’s 2020 presidential campaign, he tapped a rich new source of money that has kept him afloat: Democratic supporters of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, according to hundreds of pages of documents reviewed by Just the News. Evidence gathered by federal and congressional investigators show Hunter Biden collected over $6 million since his father began running for the presidency in 2020. The assistance flowed predominantly from prominent Democratic donor and respected Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris, whom the first son reportedly befriended at one of his father’s fundraising events, according to The New York Times.

President Donald Trump scored a judicial win on Thursday when an appeals court judge temporarily lifted a gag order preventing him from criticizing court personnel and the prosecutors in his New York civil fraud case. The gag order was originally imposed by Judge Arthur Engoron after Trump posted an image of his primary clerk, calling her "Schumer's girlfriend." Judge David Friedman curtailed the restrictions while the appellate process plays out, suggesting it ran afoul of Trump's First Amendment rights, the Associated Press reported. The decision followed an emergency hearing on Thursday after Trump's legal team challenged the gag order the evening prior.

The four-month extension will allow Iran continued access to previously frozen $10 billion in electricity revenues for humanitarian aid, according to the AP. Critics of the Biden administration have said that giving Iran to access frozen funds will free up money in Tehran’s money reserves and allow them to carry on sponsoring terrorism. The sanctions waiver will authorize Iraq to continue purchasing electricity services from Iran and give Tehran access to the billions in payments currently stored in the Iraqi banks, according to the AP.

The nations, which account for nearly half of global greenhouse gas emissions, also agreed to "deepen policy exchanges" on reducing carbon emissions in various sectors, like power, industry, buildings and transportation, across their economies.
