Year after year, much more harm than good results from congressional budget battles fought under threat of a government shutdown. To help set things right, Congress should pass a combination of elements from two bills that are remarkably bipartisan while backed by a number of key conservative groups.
The first and most essential bill, authored by Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) and co-sponsored by nine Republicans and four members of the Senate’s Democratic caucus, is called the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act of 2023. A complementary bill, called the No Budget, No Pay Act, was introduced in January by four Republicans and two Democrats.

Not going to solve the problem.
Removing our rentseekers access to their ill gotten gains from their paymasters such as the drug cartels and foreign powers might work.
But only if you can find five hundred and thirty five uncompromised people to replace our current legislature...

To H with funding the government. We should cut them off. Make them work without pay until the get a balanced budget and stop wasteful spending.

Personally, I think the shutdowns are overhyped and sometimes useful reminders to spend more intelligently. When you run out of money in your own bank account, you must make concessions and cut corners. Why shouldn't the overspending pigs in Washington be forced to do the same thing when they make the same mistakes? Printing more money is called counterfeiting and carries a prison sentence for us, why not them?

Actually, we should pay them as long as the govt is shut down and the people get to live with more individual liberty.

From the amount of outside money that flows into Congress, not receiving their salaries is about as much a person hardship as an NFL star being fined 10,000 dollars for inappropriate behavior.
The long game.
Repeal the 17th Amendment and return to representative government.
Constitutional Balanced Budget Amendment
Short game
All lobbying (bribery) can, by law, only occur within the district represented, not in Washington. Taxed at 75%.
Line item voting and line item veto,
no more 1 vote for 2500 issues.
Only asset the Federal Government has is land.
Start selling, it’s ours anyway.
This would get a lot of money out of circulation, which is the only way to reverse inflation.

5, this round of inflation was triggered by printing 6 trillion dollars of cash and dumping it into the economy "for free" with out any goods or services associated with those distributions.
The way to lower inflation is to stop handing out "free" money.

I said reverse, not reduce. Forgot to mention that the sale of Federal lands should be used also to pay off our debt.

Given that many of them are millionaires due to insider trading, that is not much of a threat.

How about no pay until balancing the budget? Oh! They can't do that!
Funding the government is easy. Fire up the printing presses boys! Add it to the debt! Congress would be too happy to do that. Force funding of the government with no oversight is exactly what they want. The gravy train would never end.
And everyone wonders why inflation keeps increasing. The value of the dollar decreases, and inflation increases. Dumb people are incapable of recognizing this. Dishonest people refuse to acknowledge it.

The Republicans neutered themselves as usual, recusing themselves from any power. Lankford has an empty space between his ears.

Same farce, different year. The last time Congress actually passed a budget was 1997.

Their pay is insignificant. They get paid short of 200k per year and yet they become multimillionaires. Cut off their insider trading and under the table payoffs and that will get their attention.

No pay is just a gimmick, they always get paid in the end. How about they can't leave, lock them in until they reach a balanced budget.

The true theme of this article is exposed at the end: "... it would take away the excuses of bombastic nihilists such as Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for causing havoc as a means of attracting media attention and campaign donations."

They make more with insider trading than their salaries.

Do that, and they will just take a few more bribes and kickbacks to make up for the lost salary.

A group of Congresspersons with the statesmanlike character and concern for America’s people WOULD suggest what the headline says. We have such low standards for our Congress now that things like this do seem silly. I heard Rep. Matt Gaetz the House needs to knock off the French-style work weeks too much of the year. They like going home Thursday afternoon even many times when Monday is already a holiday, Get busy cutting spending, doing separate appropriation bills and making those tough decisions you promised your constituents you would do!!
