Defense of Soros Scholarship

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has defended a Soros scholarship he accepted, claiming it came at a time when he “didn’t have the money” to pay for Yale Law School. But there is one problem with that argument. According to reports, the entrepreneur was already a multi-millionaire when he took it.
"There was a separate scholarship that I won at the age of 24-25, when I was going to law school in my mid-20s, in my early 20s, when I didn't have the money and it was a merit scholarship that hundreds of kids win, that was partially funded, not by George Soros, but by Paul Soros a relative,

Some things I don't like about Ramaswamy is he said he would cut aid to Israel and give more to her Arab neighbors, he would abolish the DOJ, FBI, ATF, and IRS. Sorry, those all need some major reform, but you don't abolish them. He previously trashed Trump over claims of election fraud, but after running for president he's gushing over Trump. During the debate he mentioned faith in God. He's a Hindu; he only said that to cater to the Christian base. He says what he thinks the far right base wants to hear.

In politics, people with logs in their eyes often obsess over the motes in their opponent's eyes. Conversely, if voters really like someone, they can be PDQ to overlook similar or worse flaws in their chosen one, while boldly skywrighting the perceived flaws of those whom they despise. That makes representative democracy more of an art than a science and when it gets really messy, certain people's inner totalitarian thuggery surfaces to the extent we see in democrats, where they justify taking out a popular candidate by hook or crook, because they are so much smarter, better informed, than the voting rabble who dares think otherwise.

Vivek is a fast talking charmer who says all the right things. Is he too good to be true? Possibly. My gut says to be wary of him and I am. I will withhold judgment but there is something about him that gives me pause. It could be his youth and inexperience. Maybe he needs more seasoning before he jumps in the big leagues. He needs to prove himself and that takes time.

I have not formed a solid opinion on Vivek but am inclined to see him marketing himself as a junior Trump, allowing him to run for the highest office in the land with no elected governing, military, or legislative experience, as Trump did. Trump was well known enough to pull it off due to his decades as a NYC establishment billionaire and TV personality background. Vivek came out of nowhere and his praise of Trump rings a little hollow; however, the lad appears sharp enough to warrant consideration for a position within a second Trump administration, if that is to be, which may be his realistic objective, along the way to his currently unrealistic goal of being Mister Big. He doesn't appear ready for even a VP role, but maybe something within DHS might suit him, like head of CBP.

Ramaswamy reminds me of another Presidential candidate. Back in 1976 Sargent Shriver, a member by marriage of the Kennedy clan, ran for President. It was a short lived run but he seemed to be a happy-go-lucky, glad-handing friendly sort and despite his gold-plated education he was eager to seem a friend of the common man. At one point Shriver entered a steel worker’s bar in Youngstown, Ohio where he went through his hail-fellow-well met routine with working men. After a bit of his he exclaimed, “You guys are great! A round of beers for everyone…..and a Courvoisier for me!”
It is easy to like the persona Ramaswamy presents publicly but were he to become President I just have an awful feeling about him. He strikes me as very smart, yes, but also as too friendly, too smiley, too confident and the sort of fast talking Ivy League grad who has little in common with the average person and likes it that way. His bio makes him a coastal elite. His rapper act makes him seem silly and immature. His Soros connections make him untrustworthy, even radioactive. I fear his presidency would be full of unpleasant surprises.

I like them as a candidate, I think he's one of the brightest ones we have. However I would never support him over Trump, and I think it's healthy for him to be really scrutinized. It's best that we do it because we know what the MSN would do to him in terms of scrutiny and looking for skeletons, so we should find them first

Never in a million years would I accept Vivek as the republican candidate in the presidential election over Trump. However, I would take him over every other candidate, save DeSantis, should that become my only choice. Does anyone think that his Hinduism (if, indeed, he remains in that cult) is worse than the alleged Christianity of Obama, whose church preached not Christianity, but black racist cant or the massive hypocrisy of Bill and Hillary Clinton? Did his acceptance of a scholarship from the brother of George Soros--not George himself-- really disqualify him from being sincere in what he now professes? Does that fact that I took a paycheck from Raytheon or Pfizer at some time in my past mean I am a member of the military-industrial complex or the "Big Pharma" cabal? Really? Think about it.

He's not new - I've been watching him for a couple of years guest comment on different programs. I'm still voting for President Donald Trump, of course, but I like Vivek Ramaswamy.

I'm still trying to figure him out. While he is very bright, young, and sure has the businessman schtick, he doesn't strike me as presidential. It's too hard to tell yet if he is/would become a DC insider. If a corrupt DC establishment finds it cannot control him, he would get the Trump treatment. His story about receiving the Soros money is strange. If he already had significant wealth, why would he push aside his self-made principles for a handout he didn't need especially from a Soros-funded foundation. And why try to scrub this matter from the public domain if it was on the up and up.
He could have a future in politics, but in today's Amerika I wonder if he could handle the jackals in DC.

I had to apply for my NROTC scholarship. It wasn't given or awarded to me. It was a competition. And I knew exactly where the money came from - thank you taxpayers. Was this (Paul) Soros scholarship awarded based on merit? Did Vivek have to apply or did he just win because of academic achievement?
As for foreign aid - if you're going to reduce or end aid to Israel then stop ALL foreign aid. Between the billions in aid that we have given (for what exactly in return?) to countries - with Israel being the exception as I think they do a lot of dirty work for us, what has the US gotten for all this money? And we all give billions to NGOs and the Peace Corps is still in existence. Talk about a quaint idea that needs to be ended - it's the Peace Corps.
As for eliminating the FBI, etc - Yes, I agree - end them. They are beyond reform. See:

Vivek is a "Master deBater" but that's about it. Politics involves debate, but is more than that alone. What do you do when your enemies aren't interested in appearing on a global stage for a debate, moderated by Klaus Schwab and George Soros? What do you do when your enemies don't speak English but rather respond with nuclear-tipped cruise missiles, or ICBMs? Being Mr. Silver-tongue means nothing at that moment, and we'll all go down due to a one-trick-pony leader

Vivek does not understand the Judeo/Christian foundation of our country with his desire of reducing/eliminating financial aid to Israel. Israel is the birthplace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We have ties to Israel spiritually like no other nation. Our bible tells us if we bless Israel, God will bless us. if we curse Israel, God will curse us. As a Hindu, Vivek should see the ties we have with Israel since its birth. Apparently, he doesn't. That gives us pause and makes us question his other positions.

I’ve heard him speak in person and have the meet and greet photo to prove it. But he will never get my vote. He says all the right things but he has issues which can’t be overcome in my book - wanting to get back into TPP with China, considering pardoning the Bidens and Israel among them.

“Xi Jinping should not mess with Taiwan until we have achieved semiconductor independence, until the end of my first term when I will lead us there,” After that, our commitments to Taiwan — our commitments to be willing to go to military conflict — will change after that, because that’s rationally in our self-interest. That is honest. That is true, and that is credible.” Ramaswamy told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.
That does it! Vivek would throw Taiwan to the wolves, China, if he became president. That settles it. We, at our house, will never vote for this charismatic Hindu even though he may sound like Trump on many issues. And we don't think President Trump should put him in his Cabinet because of these beliefs. "With friends like this, who needs enemies."

It doesn't matter to me who paid for law school. If he used a loop hole, so what? It matters much more what he did since then. Writing a best seller about corporate social justice and starting a non-social justice fund is powerful evidence where his heart is. After Trump, he's the best of the rest.

Before reading Miss Lucianne each morning, I read and pray the corresponding Scripture verse from Proverbs.
Today in Proverbs 26, there seems a warning:
“Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.”(Proverbs 26:12, ESV)
Sadly, do not see much, if any, humility in fast-talking ‘swamy.’ Plus, he is ‘too new’ here in and for America. Who is his support base? What has he done locally?
