Freeze, thieves!
Shoplifters are running so wild in the Big Apple that pints of high-end ice cream now have special locked lids to thwart cold-hearted crooks.
The Fairway supermarket on the Upper West Side is guarding $6 cartons of Häagen-Dazs with bolted plastic tops — which can only be removed with a device at the register — as other shops padlocked freezers of the treats.
A sign at Fairway gives shoppers the scoop on why there’s now a barrier on the popular summertime sweets.
“To help maintain the lowest possible cost, a protective lock has been placed on some units of ice cream,” it reads.

No, this is what you voted for, soft on crime Mayor's, DA's and a populist that can be bothered to do anything about it, cause every thing is 'rtacist.' And we wouldn't want that.

Shoplifting is the entitlement-du-jour for black folks.
(If I tried it, I would be in county jail.)

I guess supermarkets will need to hire people stand around and unlock the freezers; so, this is a dimorat "jobs program". And, being nuyawk, they'll be union jobs for sure.

Hey Fellas, go to Nancy Pelousi's freezer. She has the good stuff there and she doesn't lock her freezer. Be sure to bring a pal for her husband.

Keep it up, woke fools, and there will be no stores left. A business can’t continually lose money. They will have to leave or go bankrupt. Why is this so hard to understand? Wonder what NYC will look like with no retail, no restaurants, no safe areas and vaunted subways that you risk your life to use. Snake, call your office.

Couldn't they just steal one of the container unlocking devices? I bet more than a few employees are also thieves.

Why is this even news anymore? The citizens of NYC have spoken/decided/voted for decades. They repeatedly vote for the same incompetence/corruption, yet scream every election cycle that the State is worse than before! The only creature more STUPID than a rabid, union-obsessed Democrat is a college-educated, mind-numbingly, out-of-touch Democrat in any position of authority.

FTA: "The soft-on-crime approach encourages repeat theft, according to police — who reported that nearly a third of all shoplifting busts last year involved the same 327 people, who were rearrested thousands of times."
This is being done purposefully. The WEF followers in government are deliberately destroying our legal system and social structures. The "crime wave" of shoplifting that looks like society itself is falling apart is primarily the work of only hundreds of criminals. The "optics" are enough for the propagandists in the "press corpse" to spin their tales of woe and Armageddon, laying everything at the feet of "systemic racism" brought to America exclusively by "White Supremacists" yearning to put "Black Folk" back in chains. It is all Kabuki Theater. The traitors of this country put policies into place with sure knowledge of the negative social effects that will result; they count on those results. They are destroying our country and society on purpose to remake it an ungodly, unholy hell hole.
I'm dedicated to stop them. St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle....

Don't know who is dumb and dumber. The shop owners or the shoplifters. Just shut down the supermarket if they have to resort to such a policy. Not worth keeping it.

Just post signs that shoplifters will be shot, and arm ex-police as security, and see what happens next. After the first shoplifter is ARRESTED for BREAKING THE LAW, there will be few additional thefts.

Welcome to New York City, home of free stuff at the expense of hard-working taxpayers, all supported by your Mayor and DAs. Welcome to the home of high taxes, crime-ridden subways and streets, and hotels filled with immigrants who trash the place. Welcome to the city where if you can’t steal it here, you can’t steal it anywhere. Ah, yes, welcome to New York City, where you work and your neighbor steals your paycheck — and the theft is supported by your Governor and your Mayor! How great is that?

Didn't at least one shop-owner put photos of shoplifters on display? Place pictures of thieves all over the stores. When thieves return, have really big security dudes shadow them.

I'm sure the cheaper and more permanent solution would be a nice 12 gauge with Turkey loads but little Mayor Adams would frown on that.

With idiots like Adams and Bragg in charge, arresting people for shoplifting is like herding stray cats and locking them inside a picket fence. If they don't go through it they go over it.

In my neck of the woods, customers can call or text their order in to Wal-Mart ahead of time, and Wal-Mart has people that will pull the items off the shelf, put them in plastic totes, and bring it out to the customers and load it in their cars.
Here, it is a convenience that Wal-Mart offers their customers.
Perhaps these stores in Noo Yawk can go to that type of service exclusively.
No more thieves in the store.
Period.
