Washington -Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis will officially enter the 2024 U.S. presidential race next week, according to two sources familiar with the decision, immediately becoming Donald Trump's biggest rival for the Republican nomination and shaking up a contest that largely has been one-sided.
DeSantis will likely file paperwork declaring his candidacy on May 25 to coincide with a donor meeting in Miami, with a more formal launch the week of May 29, according to a source. The invitation for the May 25 event stated that donors would be put to “work,” an apparent allusion to raising money for DeSantis,

Big Mistake, Ron!!!
you haven't got what our President's got and you haven't proven on the National and International stage the same kind of, what it takes!!, to jump right into the national and world leadership role that our President did and ... still does.
Donald J. Trump is still respected around this world as an outstanding leader, in every capacity, and when he does something, there is no stone unturned and no issue not addressed.
Our President, Donald J. Trump is a "Leader" in every sense, or tense, of the word

President Trump will be the nominee, and having a strong primary competition will prepare him for the election. “Iron sharpens iron.”

# 4 has the right idea, although I think the primary race may hold a few surprises in store. We should all know by now that nothing is certain in politics.
Hoo, boy...the boobirds are gonna be out in force on this thread.

Running against his previous sponsor has been grotesquely foolish - his chances of securing the party's nomination next year seem slim at best. There might have been a chance to run as Trump's VP candidate in '24 and DJT'S heir apparent but no more. DeSantis has already lost some of his moneyed support though the 'Never Trumpers' will still back him into Never Never Land.

I will vote for Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis if either one of them is the nominee. My concern with Ron DeSantis is along the lines of when Scott Walker entered the presidential race in 2016; he left before it began.
I was thoroughly disappointed because I would have voted for him or Ben Carson. We will see. . .

Need I remind everyone....again.... that Trump didn't have ANY governing experience when he was elected. And it showed with who he appointed and hired.
DeSantis had zero governing experience when he was elected governor, and has done a good job so far.
My vote will go to whom I believe is the best candidate to beat Biden and govern after winning. I I think that its Ramadamadingding, thats who I'll vote for. I want a primary race where I hear ideas and plans. No name calling and low blows.

Ron is still having marxist problems in Florida and should stick to solving them! President Trump endorsed him for Governor and with President Trump's support he won! REMEMBER: Do NOT bite the hand that feeds you! GEEZE!

#11, DeSantis was elected to govern first at the federal level, then at the state level, when he was only 34. He’s had ten years of experience making the sausage.
As VP he will make an awesome Robin to Trump’s Batman.

If he does this, he demonstrates that he is another dirty politician like the rest of them. He made a promise to the people of Florida to finish his second term. So what happened to that??? If he does this to them, imagine what he will do to the country when the ones that bought him tells him what to do. Sorry DeSantis, you could have had it all but ambition is coming first. What a disappointment.

# 10 please remember that Scott Walker (whom I supported as well) was simply swamped by the Trump cyclone. It was not due to any lack of effort or commitment on Scott's part.

Never happen, # 14. DeSantis is no one's second banana. Ad assuming Trump will be elected and have a successful term is problematic, to say the least.

Boobird here! Who can match Trump’s accomplishments? Who thinks they can even attempt to cause his base to abandon him? Who believes they can match his stamina and determination to win? Who believes anyone can match one of the best foreign policies of any President in the modern era? Who believes that he could persuade anyone that PDT would ever abandoned the country for personal gain? Who is more of a patriot?
This announcement is nothing more than the establishment throwing a temper tantrum because they know they are powerless if Trump wins and their entire military-industrial complex is at risk. They are going to do anything to make sure he is not the nominee and certainly not the candidate. They are willing to sacrifice the country for their own selfish reasons. Instead of uniting to fight the existential threat of another democrat administration, they would rather destroy Donald J. Trump than save the country. This is who they are, evil manipulative self-focused traitors. Who would throw in with that bunch? These are men who sent our men and women to fight and die in foreign wars, and then come home severely maimed to enrich their own personal wealth. These are men who game the system to accumulate vast amounts of money. These are the men and women who never fail to disappoint the base. These are the players in Washington DC that protect the systemic corruption. These are not the good guys. Donald John Trump looks like a choir boy compared to these reprobates.
Ron DeSantis, you really want to serve your country and actually save it from the people who have wrecked the Republican party, make the announcement that you are supporting President Trump. Turn the tables on these GOPelites who are using you for their own selfish purposes. Now, that would be an act of valor! Unite with Trump to restore this country!
To all of you who want a vigorous primary debate season, are you nuts? In this political climate? It will be a free for all to see who can get Trump who is far and away the leader for the nomination. It won’t be issue motivated, it will be nothing but destroy Trump while democrats sit back and smile with their nominee protected in his basement.

Good Grief! Why all the whining and complaining? As pointed out every day, Trump is way, way ahead in the Polls, so why worry about DeSantis getting into the Race? I will vote for either Trump, or anyone else who might be the Nominee. To say you won't vote for anyone but Trump is just a vote for Biden and we all know how much damage he has already done to the Country. DeSantis is certainly Qualified. He has way more experience than Trump had when he ran in 2016.. I look forward to a clean, exciting Race. I will hope that on LDot everyone is entitled to Back their Candidate without name calling and nasty accusations. After all the Best Man (or Woman, WILL win! Then we all need to go and Vote and Throw out the Democrats!! That's what this is all about!

He won't win the primary.
He won't support Trump.
Trump supporters will remember, regardless of 2024 results.
He will not enter the 2028 field as the front runner.
His ascension requires to enthusiastically support Trump now and take a good cabinet position---Education?
Trump supporters will NEVER support ANYONE, now or in the future, who doesn't demonstrate the willingness to drain the swamp.

I think DeSantis is running to get national exposure, a bank of funds and endorsements, all for the 2028 race. It is no longer viable to start running a year before the general election. Trump has been running for 4 years for the 2024 election, and will get the nomination.

Now we won’t have to hear here anymore that there is no evidence Governor DeSantis is running for President. It has been so obvious for months. He and his wife have a rude and painful awakening awaiting them.

Excuse second post. Trump had a breadth and depth of international business experience that was unique and ended up being just what was needed to be confident on the WORLD stage. He had solid relationships and connections with powerful leaders all over before he entered politics. His qualifications were quite unique and comparing the very talented Governor DeSantis to him is apples vs. oranges.

Sorry to interrupt the “hate DeSantis” party here, BUT. The communists are not done with Trump yet. He will be indicted in Georgia soon and following that he will be indicted in Washington, DC by the Special Counsel. The strategy of the Democrats will be to tie Trump up in court and he has zero chance (more like a -99% chance) of a fair trial in DC. Biden won 98% of the vote in DC. We need to have DeSantis ready because the Dems will engineer the guilty verdicts for within 50 days of the November 2024 election and will refuse to debate a “convicted felon”. And that is the evil intentions that we know about, who knows what other plans they have. We need to have DeSantis at the ready because he is the only one who can win. Even if Trump gets 99% of the vote in the Republican primaries, they will not let him win in November - they will do every possible thing and justify their cheating. Be kind to DeSantis, he is his own man, a great governor, and a person of integrity. We will likely need him.

Unless President Trump plans to re-domicile out of the state of Florida, DeSantis will not be the VP Nominee. The 11th Amendment more-or-less makes it impossible for the President and Vice President candidates to be residents of the same state. Electors from that state cannot vote for a Pres. and VP from their state.
In fact, in 2000, Dick Cheney actually was a Texas resident, like then-Governor George W Bush. Cheney changed his residency back to Wyoming to comply with the Constitutional dictate.
Ron DeSantis would make a great President. We are fortunate in the Republican party to have a "bench" of strong candidates. I like to say we're like the 31-flavors ice cream shop -- lots of good choices. Perhaps 2028 may be a better year for DeSantis, but I also think that President Trump needs to show a little more discipline in his campaign style. What worked in 2016 may not work as well in 2024.
At least we're not like the Democrats candidates. If they were an ice cream shop, all the flavors would be bad ..., you know, like liver-and-onions, brussel sprouts, or argula flavored ice cream. Yuk.

I believe Trump and DeSantis would actually govern pretty much the same way. Both know how to put the lying left in their place. I’m for the one who has the better chance of winning, whichever that one is. I know I cannot stand having another lying democrat win again.
