A Chicago area high school has come under fire after it was discovered the school is offering segregated mathematics classes for “Black” and “Latinx” students only.
Evanston Township High School District 202 (ETHS) is providing the racially segregated courses in calculus, pre-calculus, and algebra.ETHS’s math curriculum for the next school year suggests that the segregated classes will continue. One of ETHS’s pre-calculus courses describes, “[t]he course is restricted to students who identify as Black male students.” While another pre-calculus course mentions that it is only for “Latinx” students, and a third course does not have any restrictions based on gender or race.

Will this be "black math"? Is this where 2 + 2 = 4 or 5 or sometimes 3?

White and Asian students will not have math classmates with 'attitudes' so learning can be uninterrupted. I do not see a downside here. Blacks can learn how to calculate velocities in space and time without having to bother with other skin colors and cultures. The question: Will math learning in separate but equal environments produce equal results?

looks like even the Latino/a students aren't good enough to be in the same classroom as the black students and practicing segregation is part of the black education experience

I suspect the reasoning behind this is encourage Black males who have shown an interest in higher math but have also been shown to test below White and Asian students will not test at the bottom of the class as that would be racist. The "educator" who came up with this plan, doesn't even realize that segregating Black males into separate classes because you believe they are not able to excel in a class with all races is racist.

You got to remember that these are the groups that the Democrats think are too stupid to obtain IDs.

I thought we were told that math is racist. And now, they're segregating math classes.
I'm sooo comfoozed.

So student "streamiing" and "segregation on racial grounds" os perfectly sound Eucational practice. The third Open classes, for the msotly white remainder will be freed from everythng that is currently holding them back. GREAT IDEA!!!!

I understand that the students will be held accountable for knowing the multiplication tables thru 5 by the end of the semester.

I'm going to trademark my term for such Math courses: "MAFF", as in "Math for Future Failures".

The infiltration of the public schools by wacko leftists is complete. Believe it or not, there used to be some teachers who voted Republican. No more. They have all retired.

It was really stupid of the education staff to explicitly identify race as a criterion for enrolling in those classes. If they were a little more intelligent they might get the same result simply by naming them as "remedial math" classes.

The implication is that these "special" students are either stupid or lazy and can't keep up and pass those classes unless they are dumbed down to the level a second grader could handle. The implication would be correct. That's the way all public schools used to do it but now we can't be making those kids feel the embarrassment of diversity, equity and inclusion, can we? Just as in the adult world, some kids have different abilities than other kids.

I wonder if it's a language thing. With all of these illegals coming into the country, and none of them are able to speak English, it's probably easier to just have a Spanish speaking math class and an Ebonics math class. Math is difficult enough without language being another obstacle in learning.

I support this decision from once-great Chicago. The white kids will learn advanced calculus and the black kids will learn how to read with ebonics and how to count using their fingers and how to protest whitey. The white kids will probably live longer with less gunfire but have less practical knowledge on drug interactions.
Why didn't somebody think of this sooner.

Outcome based math for dummies. Keshawn has a 15 round 9mm magazine for his Glock. Keshawn has seventeen 9mm rounds in his baggy pants how many 'bullets' will be left in Keshawn's baggy pants pocket when he loads the entire magazine for a drive by shooting?

Sad to say that when I was in school I was bullied by other Black students because I was good at math. I was accused of "wanting to be a White boy." I remember being set up for a beat down by three Black kids by one that I thought was a friend. All because I could do long division and figure out linear algebraic equations. I guess in some school districts they took that it's illogical conclusion.
