U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg emphasized to Yahoo! Finance Live the large number of train derailments in this country while the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, has gotten the most "attention." Buttigieg continues to face backlash after he was slow to discuss the train derailment causing toxic chemicals to pollute the East Palestine and the surrounding region. He finally addressed the disaster on Monday night, 10 days after the train crashed. Buttigieg was asked by Yahoo! Finance about what the Transportation Department is doing. "Look, rail safety is something that has evolved a lot over the years, but

Incompetent poofter in unfamiliar waters and waaaaay over his head. This is the result of eschewing merit for box-checking. Chosen for what you are over what you know. Feeling all warm and inclusive now, Ohio?

Exactly 100% not what the residents of East Palestne, Ohio wanted to hear. The usual tone deafness from the Biden administration we have all come to expect. Surprised he didn't say the train tracks were racist and were used to divide the black and brown people from the rest in this community and the derailed cars effected the black and brown side of the tracks more.

You have to work hard to be this stupid. This man has no business being in charge of any government agency and neither should he have been allowed to adopt an innocent baby. He's disgusting.

Didn't Mayor Pete just make the case for no more gun laws in his excuses for the train derailment? He talked about how all of the safety laws already on the books and the accident still happened. Just like all of the laws regarding bad guys and guns yet criminals still manage to get them.

I am convinced that this is largely a media circus to distract from the Biden Crime Family crimes being investigated.
This is a diversion. Don't be diverted.

Butt Pete DGAF about East Palestine. There are no minority construction workers there. He is just re-validating the Butt Peter Principle that he earned while mayor of South Bend Indiana. IOWs do you trust Joey Baby's government at all after their response to the Toxic Mushroom Cloud they released over OH, PA, KY and WV?

#6, a diversion? If that is the case this is the most heinous act of this miserable administration and that’s saying something. There are real people who will suffer who knows what kind of illnesses because of the decisions made for them by individuals who apparently now refuse to even show up in their community for fear of personal harm. Those poor people are left to live there amongst who knows what kind of toxic chemicals that have been unleashed on their community. There are experts who know exactly what these chemicals can and will do and they are no where to be seen. I cannot imagine the panic that has engulfed this community. East Palestine has been left on its own to contend with a crisis they did not create and do not have the expertise to handle.
Where are the experts by the way? Where is FEMA? Where are the charitable organizations delivering water and other assistance? If this administration wanted to, they could have experts there to advise and assist these people. The media should be demanding Joe and Pete do something to help, but this is a non-story for them. Clearly, these people and this community are expendable. While it may be just another screw up by this incompetent administration that really does not effect you, tomorrow something similar could happen in your community. Do you really want to put the safety of your family and community in the hands of this wretched administration who can so easily ignore such a disaster? Any other administration would have been crucified if this crisis was managed the way this has been handled. Yet Joe, once again, gets a pass.

It wasn't the derailment that was bad, it was the intentional burning and explosion that spread poison gas for miles. The railroad and/or the government needs to compensate those who suffered illness and lost animals. We provide free homes, cell phones and living expenses to illegal alien invaders but completely ignore our own citizens. This government needs to disappear.

It wasn't the derailment, it was detonating of the dangerous chemicals.

When you have a trail with unmarked hazardous chemical tanks that derails and catches fire, that'll get your attention. So Pervo Pete, is this type of thing happening more than we know?

Maybe they thought he was going to be secretary of trannys. Not transportation.
This man is too busy breast feeding and playing mommy to handle holiday airport failures, airline software malfunction/ hacking, ports that can’t bring in ships, trains endangering large populations in flyover country and trucks to expensive to drive.
Why was he hired, Barack?

Well, yes, probably, BUT how many are carrying toxic hazardous chemicals that officials allow/encourage be burned off?

Maybe the quota criterion does not work that well after all.

Is it just me, or does this country's current state of affairs (infrastructure, economy, science, etc.) resemble the opening chapters of Rand's "Atlas Shrugged"?
I always considered it fiction, but the Left saw it as a polemic on the path forward...

A thousand derailments every year but this administration obviously believes transporting oil by rail is safer than pipelines. Of course huge campaign donor and Berkshire Hathaway railroad investor Warren Buffett wouldn't be any influence on them.
BTW - in your spare time do a bit of research to see how many pipelines are under foot in your area and consider how often they are a problem. I believe you would be shocked.

Which is supposed to make me feel better, that trains derail a thousand times a year in this country or that this one derailed and was allowed to burn hazardous fumes for days, Pete?

I doubt if the condition of the tracks played a role. After all, weren't they meticulously rebuilt by 0bama's 'American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009'? I mean, all those billions must have gone somewhere.

A shining example of the problem with most of today's elected leaders.
They don't actually fix problems, but are simply figureheads who say things that they're told people will want to hear.
Then they move along to another fund raiser, or congratulatory lunch or dinner and mention how they need more money so they can add more government employees (first), which exhaust most of the new money provided, but sound like they care. And, crumbs are leftover, but government expansion was achieved, and always their goal and objective.
