California is committing to a plan that will make it the first US state to phase out gas-fueled furnaces and water heaters in homes, a move environmentalists are betting will provide a template for other states. The Golden State will ban the sale of all new natural gas-fired space heaters and water heating appliances by 2030, under a proposal unanimously approved by the California Air Resources Board on Thursday. “We’re really hopeful that this is the beginning of a domino effect and other states will follow California’s lead,” said Leah Louis-Prescott, a senior associate at RMI , a non-profit focused

THE most efficient and cleanest kind of heating system, and he fuel delivery cost and energy use is also the lowest, by pipeline.
So, they ban it.

So the heating they will need and a good portion of CA does have heating needs, will be electric. The same utility that they currently can't provide enough of. Yup, let's freeze people out. Jerks.

These bozos are out of control.
I have been thankful for years that I live in Texas and not the Peoples Socialist Republic of California, but none of us in the US are far enough away to avoid the ramifications of their insane policies and laws.
They will cause the next Great Depression unless they are stopped - and quickly!

Why no massive pushback from citizens of California or at the US as a whole? In other words, why are we sitting back and letting lunacy become further entrenched?

Members of the KARB aren't elected so why do they continually feel a need to cater to an ignorant electorate? I live in SoCal, and while it's not the Northeast there is still a need for home heating in the winter months. Head further north and/or inland and you may as well be in the mountains of Colorado. And given that most in the region uses propane or natural gas, a couple more yottawatts will have to be pulled from the grid to heat all those homes with all those EV's already charging in the garages. Oh, and winter is also the rainy season, so that leaves just the wind (or Arizona) to power everything. Utopia, for sure.

Energy companies should just shut down all the gas stations in Kalifornia, and stop delivery of all aircraft fuel, to help the environment, of course! No state should sell Kalifornia any electricity that's generated by fossil fuel, again in the interest of saving the environment.

So they are banning the sale of gas water heaters? Not just new home installations? That'll work well as probably most homes in CA that have gas service heat water with gas. So now as these units wear out, they will have to replace them with electric? Virtually none of these homes will already have a 240v 30 amp circuit drop at the WH location. This will probably double the replacement cost, then double the operating costs (assuming the state can keep the power on).

Do these people have no idea what their electricity is going to cost when all autos and home heating has to be done with electricity? California is already at the breaking point on the power grid.
This is totally bonkers.

Rash, ideologically-driven changes without verifying first (a) that each change is even possible to perform, (b) that they will be even minimally effective (I bet the changes will make the problems worse), or (c) that the changes are feasibly sustainable.
FWIW, while O.P.'s point has a grain of truth, many people here need at least a little heating on most days, as so many mornings start somewhere in the 50s (and that's a little too chilly for most people). Adding this to the recent order to stop selling gas-powered cars could multiply the size of the exodus from this place.

Natural gas has heen an important part of California for a long, long time. This will be reversed after Gavin is gone. In the meantime we have nearly all gas except for an electric range in one residence which I hate.

Re #14, I am constantly baffled by the ignorance about California with a C. No one who would have voted for its current regime would be at Lucianne. The Dems have the majority of the registered voters, but not even 50%. There is a large and growing bloc of No Party Preference voters.

California has to buy electricity from other states quite often. One of these days those states are going to say “No”. It will be fun to watch.

Rember how California turned off people's air conditioners this summer when they were their 'renewables' just weren't keeping up? Guess what's going to happen when they have control of your electric heat? The governor's mansion, and all other mansions, will remain as cozy in the winter as they are cool in the summer. You can count on that. Technology, putting the "bien", in "bien pensant".

I count being stationed in the Bay Area (Alameda NAS) for 3 years as one of the best times of my life. California has some of the best weather, scenery, and architecture of any state in my beloved country. That's when it was run by Pete Wilson and still had some semblance of sanity. That is no longer the case. Now the state is run by a totally moronic democrat tool who is so incompetent he makes governors like Gretchen Whitmore look like shinning beacons of intelligent governance. Residents of the Golden State need to ask themselves this question. How many more looney leftist ideas will Newsome and company come up with before it's all said and done?

Most CA residents don't have the heating needs as other states, but this is still crazy. Note that they expect other states to fall in line.
