ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — The suspect in the killing of an upstate New York police officer in July was released from prison two months earlier, and could face a life sentence without parole based on new charges a prosecutor announced Wednesday. Kelvin Vickers, 21, is charged in an eight-count indictment with aggravated murder, attempted murder, assault and weapons counts for the July 21 attack that killed Rochester Police Officer Anthony Mazurkiewicz, 54, and wounded Officer Sino Seng as the two sat in an unmarked vehicle. A funeral for the fallen officer was held Monday.

Comments:

Infuriating. 21-year-old with long criminal record ambushes from behind two officers in patrol car. Another case of thug who had no business being out committing a horrible crime. This should be leading the news all across the country.

When these criminals that are released early start killing DA's and politicians then you'll see a change. As long as they are killing police and us peons, the parole boards and lax DA's won't care.

“could face a life sentence without parole…” Should be: “WILL BE executed at dawn.”

Certainly sways one in favor of the death penalty. Only God, not prison, can change a heart. Without HIM there is no rehabilitation. Worse yet, prison is just advanced training for criminals.

Hundreds of years ago we had figured out that violent killers would kill again if released, so we executed them, routinely. We are SO much "smarter" these days, and we let them go to kill again. So damned "smart" that our society is in chaos.

I understand that some people get some sort of moral self righteousness from opposing the death penalty. They accept - even demand - all the blessings of society while imagining themselves to be more holy than the dirty work required to maintain civilization. Those self righteous are The Gullibles. Surely even the most anti death penalty person understands that violent people need to be locked up at least until their violent tendencies have corrected. That does not seem to be the Dim plan anymore. Then there are those who pathologically hate society. Then there are those who calculatingly seek to weaken our society, eg, soros and china. Why does the Dim Party seek to have these killers, these antisocial forces, on the street?

I am beginning to think that all these judges are letting these guilty killers and illegals out of jail, because the judges know that the killers and illegals will just commit more crimes. (prosecutors know this too) The more crime and killings that occur, the easier it will be to persuade citizens to get rid of their guns. No true American Judge, who believes in real individual justice, and the American way, would allow a law breaker out on the streets to kill again, steal or hurt American citizens. These judges and prosecutors are just as bad as the criminal! Only the judge gets to sit on his or her throne and tell the rest of us that don't give a rats azz about our lives. They must be getting paid. helping to bring this country doiwn.

Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) said Thursday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360 ” that the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol would have “much more” information to present at hearings in the fall. Cheney said, “The committee has been, I think, very thorough and laying out much of what we know. There’s much more that we have not yet shared in hearings, and we anticipate we will share in the fall. We will also make decisions about criminal referrals, and ultimately the decision about prosecutions is up to the Justice Department,
Brittney Griner case: Russian penal colonies

When WNBA star Brittney Griner was convicted on drug charges Thursday, she was not merely sentenced to nine years in a normal jail or prison. She was given time in a Russian penal colony, which is quite different than a normal correctional facility. Russia's penal colonies are descendants of the notorious Soviet-era gulags where prisoners have been subjected to harsh treatment and poor conditions. Prisoners in the system have been beaten by other inmates, endured torture and forced to watch Russian propaganda for hours every day in what's known as "awareness raising." Following several days of Griner's trial, which stemmed

As the people of New Zealand confront their nation's troubled past with colonization and denying the Maori people rights, a name change for the island nation is being considered as a part of its own reckoning. A petition that aims to change the Dutch anglicized name of New Zealand to its indigenous Maori designation of Aotearoa has collected more than 70,000 signatures, prompting a parliamentary committee to consider the idea. New Zealand member of parliament Debbie Ngarewa-Packer , co-leader of The Maori Party, joined All Things Considered to elaborate on the significance of this potential name change, the journey to indigenous

New York City’s Democrat Mayor Eric Adams is reportedly requesting photos of city job applicants, as he wants to ensure that new members of the workforce are diverse — a move that seems to show the value of race and ethnicity over qualifications. According to a report from Politico, most of the individuals — past and current city officials — the outlet spoke to are unsettled by the mayor’s request, although it seems the mayor’s office is presenting the request as a way Adams can simply “begin to recognize folks [sic] faces.” “Flagging that the Mayor would love all agencies upper leadership in this type of style,” an April 19 email

Gov. Ron Desantis recently made the boss move of suspending a State Attorney who signed a pledge to not enforce Florida’s abortion and childhood transgender transition laws. Now, Andrew Warren is pledging to defy DeSantis, saying he will continue to do his job. That happened on CBS News, with Warren accusing his state’s abortion law of being “unconstitutional” while slamming DeSantis. On Thursday, I did a write-up on Warren’s initial reaction, predicting that he’d be on CNN soon. Well, I guess I was off a little bit, but the point remains the same. These liberal outlets love to try to paint DeSantis as some kind of fascist

In February, American basketball star Brittney Griner was arrested at a Moscow airport after attempting to bring cannabis oil into the country, which is illegal according to Russian law. In the almost six months since being apprehended, Griner has lingered in a less-than-comfortable prison cell. On Thursday, the legal proceedings of the case came to a close when a Russian court delivered a guilty verdict, followed by a harsh sentence of nine years behind bars. None of Thursday’s developments should have come as a surprise to anyone. As we’ve noted before, 99% of all Russian prosecutions end with a guilty verdict, and with a maximum available sentence of ten years,

Greg Abbott (R) and Arizona Gov. The Times reports: A political tactic by the governors of Texas and Arizona to offload the problems caused by record levels of migration at the border is beginning to hit home

New York officials are warning that hundreds of Empire state residents may already be infected with the devastating polio virus after it was detected in wastewater of a second county in the state. State surveillance detected presence of the polio virus in at least two different areas of Orange County, New York—around an hours drive from New York City—in June and July. It comes within weeks of officials announcing a confirmed polio case in Rockland County—just northwest of the Big Apple's Bronx borough. The virus was also detected in Rockland wastewater last month.(Snip)Given his lack of international travel during the standard infection period
