Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson will be able to weigh in on a lawsuit surrounding alleged discriminatory college admissions practices after the high court decoupled a pair of cases surrounding affirmative action policies at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina , Chapel Hill. Jackson, who was sworn in as the first black woman on the high court last month, said in March that she planned to recuse herself from the previously consolidated lawsuits during her Senate Judiciary Committee hearings due to her role on Harvard's Board of Overseers, which concluded on May 26. But last Friday, the Supreme Court made a procedural step to separate the cases,

Leftists never recuse themselves. Don’t forget that Kagan worked with the WH on 0bamacare and then refused to recuse herself when the case came before the SCOTUS.

Elena Kagan should have recused herself on the NoBamaCare issue because she helped to craft legislation in Massachusetts for RomneyCare which was VERY similar., but she didn't. That was a State's rights issue that didn't require me to pay for it. NoBamaCare meant I had to pay for things for other states which at the time included abortion. The fact that she is black should not mean she has to recuse herself on issues unless she was involved in it-- it is time to call ourselves Americans, and be pitted against one another. ILLEGAL ALIENS are about to become a huge mess to deal with as they pour over the border unabated by the Vegetable's EA and lack of fidelity to LAWS already on the books with prpoer regard to immigration

Think "optics"...and a court that rules on these affirmative action cases without a "young" black female's input and vote...it's all about optics.

These cases present Chief Just-Us Roberts with a split the baby conundrum. Asians are a reliable Democrat voting block. If the Supreme Joke rules for continued Affirmative discrimination against Asians it could affect Democrats' candidates running for office. But if he allows for non raced based action, then the bedrock of the Dem party will do they usually mostly peaceful riots and maybe actually off a Supreme Joke Judge this time. By splitting the case he increases his chance of having split decision. This will allow Roberts to split the baby and once again come to the Democrat's rescue. Kinda rules against raced based admission but still allows raced based decision depending on the school And that isn the ultimate two tired Just-Us system that Dems love.

The debate about recession risk is pointless. We are already in a recession. Real GDP (gross domestic product) in the United States declined at an annual rate of 1.6% in the first quarter. The Atlanta Fed Nowcast shows a 1.5% contraction in the second quarter. But the underlying figures are scarier. According to the Atlanta Fed, “the GDPNow model estimate for real GDP growth (seasonally adjusted annual rate) in the second quarter of 2022 is -1.5% on July 15, down from -1.2% on July 8”. That is an enormous negative change, -0.3% of GDP, in one week.

Both bills unsurprisingly died in the Senate Finance Committee, which Warren sits on.

FBI Director Christopher Wray always seems a little too pleased with himself. But on Thursday the smirk may be wiped off his pretty face when Republican members of the House oversight committee start grilling him on the mounting evidence that something is very rotten inside the agency Wray runs. Top of the list is the curious question of why the FBI apparently did nothing with Hunter Biden’s laptop, which was handed to two agents on Dec. 9, 2019, by John Paul Mac Isaac, the alarmed owner of the computer repair shop near the Biden family homes in Greenville, Del., where Hunter had dropped off his MacBook eight months earlier.  CORRECTION*

The United States killed Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahri in a drone strike over the weekend, three people briefed on the operation told POLITICO. The strike was conducted by the CIA, according to two of the people, with one saying it took place in Kabul. Al-Zawahri was an Egyptian who took over Al-Qaeda after the U.S. killed its longtime leader, Osama bin Laden, in 2011. He never achieved the household name status of his predecessor, but Al-Zawahri’s killing is nonetheless a major win for the United States in the ongoing struggle against Islamist terrorism, especially as the United Nations warns that the terrorist group is outpacing its peers

A “slow and bureaucratic” response that has seen monkeypox spread rapidly across the US–with more than a thousand cases in New York City alone–reveals just how badly battered local health agencies have been since the Covid pandemic, advocates have said. Once a rare African virus, monkeypox has taken hold amid the ragged patchwork of city, county, state and federal agencies that make up the US public health infrastructure. “Unfortunately, delayed actions mean monkeypox has spread within the gay community and among other men who have sex with men,” said David Harvey, executive director of the National Coalition of STD Directors.(Snip)“The system is tired, it’s overworked, it’s underpaid,
