Rep. Al Green is leading an effort to make 2022 the first year that would mark the anniversary of the first slave ships arriving in North America 400 years ago. The Texas Democrat, who introduced a resolution last November, is hoping to renew the push as the country celebrates Juneteenth on Sunday, and the federal holiday on Monday.
“Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom. Slavery Remembrance is a commemoration of slavery itself and it will help us to make sure that we don’t see it sanitized. We want to tell the truth about it,” Mr. Green told The Washington Times.(Snip)The joint resolution was also introduced by Sen. Elizabeth Warren

Isn't everyday Slavery Remembrance Day? Aren't we reminded on a daily basis that every problem and ill facing the Black community is because of the "legacy of slavery and oppression"? If the give in to Slavery Remembrance Day, what's next? It will never be enough until the activists get their reparations and even then it will not be enough. Blacks need to get the slavery chip off their shoulder. Blacks come here from other countries and have no issues but those born here dwell on and cling to the distant past as their excuse for their own personal failures an shortcomings.

Were you ever a slave, Rep Green? No,you weren't and neither has anybody you know. If you always live in the past you can never see the future. Maybe we should have Jewish Slave Remembrance Day when they were enslaved by the Egyptians?
You sir are ridiculous.

So this means the statues will go back up, and names of schools et al needlessly changed will be changed back? Of course not, Green doesn't want to tell the truth because he wouldn't know it if he tripped over it. Green does little more than compete with SJL in Houston for most idiotic racist Congress critter.

So lets be brutally honest here and cut through Mr. Green's bullsh**. How about marking the year that blacks enslaved their own people. How about marking the year that black starting selling their own people into slavery and shipping them all over the globe, BEFORE AMERICA WAS FOUNDED. How about marking the years that blacks took over and destroyed cities like Atlanta, Chicago, Baltimore, Oakland, New Orleans, NYC, Newark, St. Louis, Louisville, Memphis and many others. How about honoring the 80% of violent crimes committed by blacks while being 13% of the population and how about honoring blacks committing more hate crimes than any other group. Think black on Asian crime. You want to know how many school systems they have destroyed. And you can go on and on and on.This is the insanity of a person like this Green guy. Get it yet..

Thousands of Southern Black families owned slaves. Why aren't we looking into this and quit blaming Whitey for that mess. African blacks sold conquered tribes to the Europeans who brought them to the New World. Why are the Dutch, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish getting a pass on this?

I have a good idea. Let's just make a new national holiday called "National Butt Hurt Day".
Anyone who has ever had his, her, or "it's" feelings hurt can spend the day whining and moaning about how "unfair" it all is and how they are eternal victims!!!
And the rest of us sane and normal people can just have a fun day to go to the lake, BBQ, and make fun of those losers who actually need this holiday!!!!

Al, we gave you Martin Luther King Day. Now you want Juneteenth day. We'll give you Juneteenth if you will agree that Martin Luther King Day be cancelled.
My local PBS station plays black race-related slavery television documentaries almost nonstop, except a couple of times a year when they have a fundraising week, when they play interesting programs and Pink Floyd tribute concerts, interspersed with fundraising pleas. You folks and PBS won't let us forget slavery. Why should we dedicate a separate holiday for it?

Let’s have this celebration. The worst thing that ever happened to this country was the importation of black slaves into this country..trillions of dollars spent on welfare and crime. One of my ancestors owned a bunch of slaves and I would like to apologize for his part in bringing these people into the country. We would be exponentially better off if their descendants had never been brought here.

I am sick and tired of this garbage. Why don't we introduce in Europe and the US when the black continent of Afrika started their selling and buying of white slaves about 1000 years ago long before the European started buying and selling. Why don't we introduce another 'holiday' commemorating the fact that several tribes in Afrika to this day sell slaves.

It's not like we aren't already reminded every day of how the unfortunate people of Africa were sold by their tribal chieftains to come here and pick cotton. It would be a big deal if some of them were alive today but the gravy train needs constant fueling so...there you go.

Hey Al, your community is still in very large part slaves, but the slavery is mental, not physical. And that is how YOUR party designed it all. The democrat party has lied to you and your fellow African Americans all your lives, so you best get used to your position. Stop blaming republicans, we actually fought to free you, arm you against the Klan and we also voted for civil rights for blacks too. Democrats have hidden your history, and you have a lot of rich history to be proud of. Shame you don't know it.

The Left must be worried about the black exit from the Democrat Party. It's going slowly, but it is going, and more & more blacks are waking up to the fact that the only thing the Dems care about from blacks is their vote. Green's idea is just another ploy to make blacks think they are perpetual victims-victims who will forever unable to care & think for themselves unless the gvt, helps them. What kind of help is that?

Joe Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday last year. Isn't that enough? No. No, it isn't.
As #2 observes, we're constantly reminded of something that no living person was responsible for or subject to, has zero relevance today, is merely a historical fact long past which was ended at great cost, and wasn't even a historical anomaly. But, it's a handy excuse for personal failure.

We have one single day to honor all US presidents (on which we go shopping, because we're American). One day to recognize all US veterans, and another day to recognize US war dead. One day to recognize when the Founders declared freedom from a centralized government (only to recreate bigger and better it years later). We also have a full month to honor each and every form of sexual depravity. And because bLACK people built this nation, we have bLACK History Mumph, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Day, Juneteemph, and Kwanzaa, plus whatever day their EBT cards are replenished with reparations each month. And still that's not enough because deep down, they resent that they're black.
