A teenage refugee fleeing war-torn Ukraine who was allegedly gang raped by two men on board a German hotel ship has now fled to Poland because she does not feel safe in Germany. The Senate on Tuesday passed a bill to make daylight savings permanent from November 2023, and will now go to a vote in the House. The new legislation called The Sunshine Protection Act means that Americans will stop having to change their clocks twice a year in a ritual that was first adopted in 1918. The bill was led by Democratic Sheldon Whitehouse and his Republican colleague Marco Rubio, who has said the move could reduce crime, childhood obesity and stress.(Snip)The measure still needs approval from the House of Representatives and the backing of President Joe Biden. On Sunday, most of the United States resumed Daylight Savings Time,

Americans are reportedly panic-buying potassium iodide tablets because of fears the Russian war on Ukraine will result in nuclear fallout. Attacks on Ukrainian nuclear plants and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to put nuclear forces on alert appear to be driving demand for the tablets. Manufacturer IOSAT said it is sold out of its $14 packs and identical tablets are on sale for a whopping $149 on eBay, according to the Daily Mail. “We anticipate to be restocked after mid-March,” IOSAT said on its website.
When used as directed, the tablets can prevent the thyroid from absorbing radioactive iodine.

The White House mocked the Kremlin on Tuesday, saying it had bungled the imposition of sanctions on President Joe Biden and that they would make no difference to U.S. officials who didn't have Russian bank accounts anyway. It came after Moscow slapped penalties on a string of senior officials—as well as the president's troubled son Hunter Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they were being added to a 'stop list' in retaliation for the growing economic blockade on its economy. But White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, who also made the list, laughed them off.

A recent meeting at Minneapolis' Karmel Mall was urgent for the Somali American leaders who convened it: FBI agents had been peppering business owners and shoppers with questions surrounding a fraud investigation involving government-funded child nutrition programs, and the leaders felt the whole community was once again under siege. Anxiety filled the meeting.(Snip)"This is hitting the community really hard," said Bashir Garad Dahir, who later described the meeting. "We need crystal clear answers from the government. At some point we will come out and demand it because we're concerned about the way the FBI is conducting its investigation. It is terrorizing the community."

Sen. Rand Paul said he will introduce an amendment to remove Dr. Anthony Fauci as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases—saying no one should be “dictator in chief.” Paul (R-Ky.), who often feuded with Fauci at Senate hearings over the administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, said American ”lives were held captive by petty tyrants and power-hungry bureaucrats” over the past two years. “We’ve learned a lot over the past two years, but one lesson in particular is that no one person should be deemed ’dictator in chief.’ No one person should have unilateral authority to make decisions for millions of Americans,”

Terrifying surveillance video captured the moment a Los Angeles man was fatally shot while walking his dog in an area neighbors described as a “no-crime zone.” Marcos Sandoval and his dog are seen walking near the corner of Genesee Avenue and Saturn Street about 5:30 a.m. Saturday when a car approaches and stops at the intersection, KCAL-TV reported. The driver gets out of the dark sedan, exchanges words with Sandoval and fires at the victim several times before fleeing northbound on Genesee.(Snip)Sandoval’s daughter described her dad as a “good person” who “had no enemies.” “We don’t know why someone would just target him,” she told KCAL.

The on-the-run stabber who attacked two employees at New York's MoMa museum on Saturday is now taunting cops on Instagram, joking that they'll 'still be doing paperwork' while he takes a nap and relaxes despite being wanted for the brutal crime. Gary Cabana, 60, stabbed two 24-year-old museum employees on Saturday at 4pm, a day after having his membership to the museum revoked.(Snip)In a response to one person in the comments section of his Instagram page, he said: 'Every person picked up in NYC has at least 30 priors. It's a fricking revolving door of justice.'

Last Tuesday’s video town hall on the proposed $13.9 billion Hudson tunnel, part of Amtrak’s $34 billion Gateway boondoggle, was going to be a cheerleading session for the special interests of the construction companies and their allies, but Amit Bose, head of the Federal Railroad Administration, poured cold river water on the party. Not only did he and Federal Transit Administration chief Nuria Fernandez offer no promises on Washington dollars, they again and again ticked off the long list of tasks for us locals to get done. The bistate Gateway Development Commission must be completely set up to handle the biggest such project in history. But GDC has no executive

A massive search is underway for a deranged killer responsible for murdering two homeless men and wounding three others in a series of senseless shootings in Washington, DC and New York City this month, officials said Sunday. The NYPD and Washington, DC’s Metro Police Department released a joint statement announcing a lone gunman is wanted for sneaking up on sleeping vagrants and shooting them in both jurisdictions–including the two men attacked early Saturday morning in Soho. Little Italy merchants are screaming “Mi offendo!” after learning Gov. Kathy Hochul awarded a $20 million economic and tourism grant to their Chinatown neighbors, The Post has learned. Civil leaders in Little Italy said they weren’t even asked to jointly apply for the state grant even though their businesses suffered alongside Chinatown’s during the COVID-19 pandemic. “After what our nation has experienced in the most recent past concerning issues of equity, who would believe that the State of New York would favor one ethnic Manhattan community, in this case Chinatown, to the detriment by exclusion and apart from its neighboring ethnic community, Little Italy?”

New York—Walgreens and other retailers have swapped out the clear fridge and freezer doors at thousands of stores, instead adding opaque doors with iPad-like screens showing what’s inside. Some customers really, really aren’t into it. The screens, which were developed by the startup Cooler Screens, use a system of motion sensors and cameras to display what’s inside the doors—as well as product information, prices, deals and, most appealing to brands, paid advertisements.(Snip)“The digital cooler screens at Walgreens made me watch an ad before it allowed me to know which door held the frozen pizzas,” said someone on Twitter.
