Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday said she is "not going to absolve" senators who stand in the way of Democratic-led legislation aimed at overhauling the U.S. election system. Harris, who made the comments in response to a question about Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va, and Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., also suggested that legislators standing in the way of passing the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act are failing to uphold their oath to defend the Constitution. "The United States Senate has the opportunity and, I daresay, the responsibility to pass these bills through Congress so the president can sign them.

Comments:

The Pope on Dope refuses to grant salvation to those that oppose Comrade Xiden's attempt to federalize elections. The rank stupidity of this woman rivals such legendary intellects as Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee and Hank Johnson. Her ignorance of the Constitution is astounding.

I’m not sure what Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) thought he was going to get by pushing a vote on the Democratic effort to federalize elections (which they call ‘voting rights’) and on the filibuster. Schumer knew that he was likely to get a “no” on the filibuster from Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). They’ve only been holding fast on the subject for months. Both also were very firm on the subject in speeches — Sinema earlier in the week and Manchin earlier on Wednesday. It wasn’t happening, they said. But Schumer decided to commit electoral suicide anyway, and he got it tonight.

The overwhelming majority of Senate Democrats will soon move to eliminate the filibuster -- which has protected the rights of the chamber’s minority for more than a century – because they feel the need to pass ‘voting rights legislation’ is just too intense to be blocked by the 60-vote threshold. By merging several pieces of legislation into one mega-bill and calling it the ‘Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act,’ Democrats are trying to scare people into believing that if the bill doesn’t pass, they will lose their right to vote.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will propose a talking filibuster in an attempt to persuade Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., to change Senate rules and allow a vote on the Democratic-led effort to overhaul the U.S. election system. "If the Republicans block cloture on the legislation before us, I will put forward a proposal to change the rules to allow for a talking filibuster on this legislation," the New York Democrat said Tuesday after a meeting with Senate Democrats to discuss a path forward for the legislation. "Historically, changes to the Senate rules have been necessary to adapt to a change circumstances."

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema dashed uphill efforts by Democrats to alter the Senate’s longstanding filibuster rules, announcing in a floor speech Thursday she “will not support” the change. Sinema, an Arizona centrist who has largely remained silent as Democrats have struggled to round up support for the change, will make it impossible for the party to pass partisan voting overhaul bills with the simple majority they sought. “Eliminating the 60-vote threshold will simply guarantee that we lose a critical tool that we need to safeguard our democracy from threats in the years to come,” Sinema said.

Senior Senate Democrats are insisting that universal mail-in ballots and voter drop boxes, measures included in their election overhaul legislation, help to fight racism. Sen.
