The owner of a Maryland seafood and ice processing company that employed at least 89 illegal immigrants was sentenced last week to a year of probation and a $15,000 fine, and had to promise to use E-Verify to screen new hires in the future. Philip J. “Jamie” Harrington III worked out the deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to a single charge of unlawful employment of illegal immigrants. His company, Captain Phip‘s Seafood, was sentenced to three years of probation and a fine of $240,000 for felony visa fraud. Harrington also asked that his probation officer allow him to make his usual trips this year to Florida and the Bahamas

Did they E-verify one Barack Hussein Mohammed before certifying him for Federal employment?

#1, they did, and it turns out that Barry's SS number was issued to one Harrison J. Bounel in Danbury, Connecticut. A simple clerical error, to be sure.

In my state, every so often a big show made of holding one big employer to account for hiring illegals. The fines and punishment just as OP says - no big deal and certainly not enough that it scared other big employers who consistently to this day hire illegals.

I can remember when the Maryland blue crab industry was staffed entirely by locals, mostly Eastern Shore folk, who harvested, picked, and packed the meat. The seafood industry there now uses illegals and all the restaurants (most notably, Phillips Seafood) serves crab imported from Vietnam. Wonderful.

Can we assume those trips to trips this year to Florida and the Bahamas will only be for recruiting ''fish''?

At least he was able to get people willing to work and fill his open jobs. While I am not usually for hiring illegals, what alternatives did he have right now? Close his business due to no employees?

Yet another example of Biden’s delusional and contradictory policies. As much as illegals shouldn’t be permitted to work in the US, what are the 2+ million this year, the surely 3 million next year plus the 25 million already here to do after they cross our wide open southern border? These illegal aliens crossed our border with impunity if not a warm welcome from Biden and The Hyena, so they need incomes to survive. Welfare isn’t enough and is mostly time limited. Then what? Sell illegal drugs? Steal what’s left after our protected minority loot all the upscale stores with impunity? If our laws on illegal entry and deportation are not enforced, how do we prosecute employers who need workers? Especially when Biden paid citizens not to work.

So, in a region where Phillips Seafood set the standard for seafood restaurants, somebody created "Phips" seafood? (We used to visit Phillips in Ocean City every summer in the 70's). I thought it was a typo, not trademark infringement.
This guy must have crossed some Democrat. Immigration law is only used to torment the political opposition.

Jerks like this Percy Milford Wallington Jr. need to see some jail time and this nonsense would be brought under control, $15 grand is probably what he pays his gardner or the wife's masseuse per week. The feds must have tipped him off to a big truckload of illegals arriving in town at the bus station in the middle of the night, 89 for the price of 10, get 'em while they're hungry.

just appears to me he ended up much better off violating the law than obeying it.

Wimpy Judicial accountability for such blatant crimes does not detour lawlessnes but instead encourages more disrespect for duly Legislated Law while perpetuating more crimes. Now we see the results of such Judicial negligence in the mob thefts & lawlessnes unleashed against the public, especially in socialist/dem led states. Actually, all three Branches of Government have become seriously lacking faithful and courageous leaders who keep their oaths of office! Voters need to be alert and do our homework and research who and what we vote for!

Why bother with the tiny fine, which he can write off as a business expense? A man of his caliber deserves a top slot in the United States Department of Labor or maybe Immigration and Naturalization Services, certainly not toiling away as a fishmonger. Then again, "Philip J. 'Jamie' Harrington III" does not sound African, so unless he's queer he'll need to remain outside of the Politburo.
