When the Biden administration looked for ways to pay for the president’s expansive social policy bill, it proposed raising revenue by cracking down on $7 trillion in unpaid taxes, mostly from wealthy Americans and businesses. To help find those funds, the administration wants banks to give the Internal Revenue Service new details on their customers and provide data for accounts with total annual deposits or withdrawals worth more than $600. That has sparked an uproar among banks and Republican lawmakers, who say giving the IRS such power would be an enormous breach of privacy and government overreach. Banks and their

This is one of the biggest invasions of privacy ever. Almost everyone has deposits of more than $600 a year. This could mean some people would avoid a banking account, keeping money under the mattress. Not a good idea.
I don't know how the country can stand three more years of Biden. Will there be a country left?

The $600 figure is for TOTAL ANNUAL deposits or withdrawals?!!? In many places it's being presented as a per-transaction over 600 reporting thing. Good f'n grief.
I'd say 'BOHICA', because it's already bad enough to have a federal agent crawl up my ass to audit me... But no way there's room for one to take up permanent residence in my rectum like this.

So the IRS wants crack down on people with unpaid taxes.
Who do you think the IRS will target? Waitress Betty down at the corner coffee shop who didn’t claim some of her tips? Or President Joe Biden who owes ONE HALF MILLION dollars in unpaid taxes by deliberately mis-applying a rule on Medicare taxes. To even ask the question provides the answer.
Laws are for little people.

For every American who fought for the idea of Freedom and Liberty and all those who have been proud of this country; this government, this administration, and unfortunately, a large percentage of the current population has betrayed your sacrifice, courage, and patriotism. They are reinstating the structure and application of Serfdom under the feudal model.

Just remember that Janet Yellen back this...quite frightening that this woman was the Fed Chair. Loved how they kept telling us she was non-political. What a good belly laugh.

"This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private" I guess this needs to come off our bills since there are no more private debts.

Read between the lines. FTA: "Banks say the reporting requirements would raise their costs and put them in the unenviable position of handing customer information over to the IRS." The banks care to the extent that their profit margins would be harmed. The US government will pay their costs, and also pay for a massive cost increase at the IRS, the ultimate objective being to collapse the economy through impossibly high government spending.

Here's a suggestion for everybody. Don't do it. No need for courts or any of that. We don't have a king, and we don't bow to dictators. xiden is acting like both, and under our Constitution, he does not have the right to impose the IRS (it's not even constitutional) on US or weaponize it against US. We don't have to act like we don't know what is truth because dishonest, illegal, power-hungry, greedy entities want US to think we're unclear about the Constitution and TRUTH. You don't find funds of the wealthy by peeping into everyone's bank accounts. The wealthy are clearly defined and easy to pick out; those who want to impose on our little money and our rights won't allow their rules to impose anything on themselves. Using "wealthy" is like calling everything racist; it's a tactic to stick it to the little people to accomplish their goal while claiming to only be after the wealthy. What's my four letter word that starts with a "d" and ends with a "g"? It's time.

Buy a TV, tires or call a plumber? The IRS will know.
Didn't Obama hire 40,000 IRS auditors after Obamacare to ensure we were all enrolled or paid his penalty? Where are they?

I didn't read the article, but the fact that this is from the NYT raises my eyebrows. Usually, they'd be all for this invasion of privacy, yet they're not. What have they to hide?

If this goes through, about 90,000 new government employees would be needed. Just what we need! NOT

They will go after the middle class, conservative rich and the poor. The filthy rich democrats and politicians will be off the hook. This is crazy but we all knew it was coming. The IRS is a very dangerous organization.

The banks will soon find they have no depositors. The money will be moved elsewhere. Bank customers are already getting fed up with their banks ordering them around.

The irony here is that the banks will be required to report to the IRS the four digit checks I write TO the IRS for estimated taxes. This is nothing more than another way to ramp up the number of government employees to harass the private sector.

Government officials are still claiming this is aimed only at the Top 1%, who they say are evading taxes. Truth is virtually anyone with a bank account will generate $600 in transactions over the course of a year.
