Shenzhen, China/Toronto - Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou arrived in China on Saturday ending her near three-year U.S. extradition fight, the same day two Canadians detained by Beijing for more than 1,000 days returned home, potentially paving the way for improved ties between China and the two western allies.
Meng, the daughter of Huawei Technologies founder Ren Zhengfei, was allowed to go home after reaching an agreement with U.S. prosecutors on Friday to end a bank fraud case against her.
The extradition drama has been a central source of discord between Beijing and Washington, with Chinese officials signalling that the case had to be dropped

It seems like this warning from the CDC shouldn’t be necessary yet the agency issued an alert to medical professionals to be on the lookout for Afghan refugees with infectious disease symptoms. A few cases of infectious diseases for which most Americans are vaccinated have started popping up among the Afghan evacuees recently brought into the United States.
The CDC posted an announcement on its website warning medical professionals and staff of the possibility of Afghan refugees bringing infectious diseases like measles, mumps, and rubella into the country during their evacuation. Most Americans have been vaccinated against all those diseases.

At age 88, most Iowans would be sitting in a rocker on their front porch listening to the corn grow and watching their great-grandchildren at play.
But Senator Chuck Grassley has a different idea. The seven-term senator has been listening to the importuning from national Republicans to run for what would most assuredly be a slam-dunk eighth term and has decided to grant them their wish.
There are no major league professional sports teams in Iowa. There are some good college football programs at Iowa State in Ames and in Iowa City, where the state university plays. But the closest Iowans get to the major leagues is their iconic Senator Chuck Grassley.

We’ve reported about how Joe Biden’s staff has gone to great lengths to prevent him from answering questions.
His meeting with U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the White House was a great example of this. Johnson took some questions from the British press. But as he was finishing up, the Biden staffers interrupted him, screaming at the top of their lungs at the press to get out, creating all kinds of chaos.
The press then filed a complaint with White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki. She basically treated them like dirt and like their objections meant nothing.
Then,

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made some news this week, and the best part is that he hampered the Biden administration. After Florida saw success from an early COVID-19 treatment program–namely, infusion centers providing monoclonal antibodies–the Department of Health and Human Services mysteriously decided to centralize the distribution of Regeneron. DeSantis then announced that Florida had made a deal with UK-based monoclonal antibody company GlaxoSmithKline. The company’s formulation of sotrovimab was given an emergency use authorization by the FDA but not put on a federal purchase agreement.

There may be no better illustration that the press abhors positive pandemic news than the reality that America is returning to normalcy in a relatively safe fashion. This month, both college and professional football teams returned to the field of play. The difference — the fans were also permitted to return to their seats and cheer their teams on, and this upset plenty of the correct people.
Throughout the media, we had commentary on the dangers this posed, with hectoring voices noting how few of those in attendance had masks on. One of the more amusing comments was seen on CNN, where Ana Cabrera was clearly shaken

Despite the fact that the photos of migrants allegedly being whipped by Border Patrol agents have been debunked by the man who took them, some news outlets are clinging to the story that agents were riding migrants down like Cossacks. Of note, the photographer’s statement is oddly missing from the CNN website. Although they did include the president’s remarks about the story-that-wasn’t-there. Huh. Who’d a thunk it? After all, why tell the truth when there are fires and egos that need to be stoked by a generous helping of gasoline?
By now, you likely know that on Friday, Joe Biden commented: “To see people treated like they did, horses barely

Beijing — China’s central bank on Friday declared all transactions involving Bitcoin and other virtual currencies illegal, stepping up a campaign to block use of unofficial digital money.
Friday’s notice complained Bitcoin, Ethereum and other digital currencies disrupt the financial system and are used in money-laundering and other crimes.
“Virtual currency derivative transactions are all illegal financial activities and are strictly prohibited,” the People’s Bank of China said on its website.

A draft copy of the 2020 Maricopa County election audit has been leaked to KJZZ, a Phoenix-based radio station.
The validity of the draft report they obtained was confirmed by audit spokesman Randy Pullen, who said, “It’s not the final report, but it’s close.”
The media is already spinning the findings of the audit.
“The partisan review of Maricopa County’s 2.1 million ballots cast in the 2020 election found a vote count nearly identical to what the county had previously reported,” CNN reported. Like other liberal outlets, CNN focused on the results of the hand-recount part of the audit. As we know, hand recounts may account for slight discrepancies

“Those people will pay,” Joe Biden promised, making the Border Patrol a bigger target for the president than the Taliban, apparently. Biden got confronted in his presser this morning over the border crisis, with one reporter pressing him to explain how his promises of humane treatment square with the images seen from Del Rio. Biden seized on the misinformation about alleged whippings by the Border Patrol’s mounted units, promising “consequences” for the agents in question: Our pal Guy Benson notes the contrast between Biden’s assessment of American law enforcement and the “business”-minded people currently reinstating amputations in Afghanistan:

A funny thing happened on the way to the accountability forum for the New York Times. In attempting to explain why Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez broke out in tears after changing her vote on Iron Dome funding from nay to present, the NYT reported that a great deal of pressure had been brought to bear on House Democrats. Who applied that pressure? It depends on which version of the New York Times report you read.
This was the first take: It was the “influential … rabbis” that made AOC cry and forced her to vote present on bill that passed with, er, 420 votes?

President Biden slammed Border Patrol agents filmed on horseback attempting to stop migrants from crossing the Rio Grande into Texas, saying they would “pay” for their actions.
“It was horrible to see what you saw, to see people treated like they did—horses barely running them over people being strapped,” Biden said at a press conference at the White House on Friday. “It’s outrageous. I promise you those people will pay.”
Biden added, “There will be consequences. It’s an embarrassment. But beyond an embarrassment is dangerous, it’s wrong.”
