As summer reaches peak heat, a recent piece in Time magazine on air conditioning exemplifies the rot pervading academia and threatening the nation.
Eric Dean Wilson, an instructor and graduate student at City University of New York, wrote about how air conditioning will destroy the planet. His essay demonstrates the confluence of such intellectually fashionable ideas as environmentalist extremism, critical race theory, equity, and the condemnation of capitalism and “white supremacy.”
Wilson has no training in climate science or mechanical engineering. Yet he teaches “climate-themed writing and environmental justice” at the City University of New York. Wilson describes his recent book

First they came for the cows.
Then they came for SUVs.
Then they came for gasoline engines.
Now they want the air conditioners.
And John carrion and nasty pelousey still fly private.
What a mystery.

The story cites heat wave stats from 1911 . The deaths from different categories. All this BEFORE so called man caused " global warming/climate change ". Does he eat rotting food ? If not , then he can thank refrigeration another modern convenience . How about indoor plumbing ? Does he use an outhouse ? The left is never happy until everyone is miserable. And even then.........

Well, Eric Dean Wilson can kiss my Grits! I grew up without Air Conditioning. People kept cool by pulling down shades and running Fans, some had whole house fans. It worked, but there is no way to take away the grandeur of the Air Conditioner. My Children grew up without Air Conditioning (and complained about it every summer once they were Teens). We lived outside of Town in a Two Story House. We opened windows and got the Breezes at night. We survived. We finally put in a Wall Air Conditioner the year the Oldest left Home. That only happened because We had a huge garden and I canned all summer and now I was the one complaining. Now I live in Florida and I invite Mr. Eric Dean Wilson to come here and spend a week in a home with no Air conditioning and then tell me we don't need it. What a walking, talking Idiot that guy is!

Right now the "feels like" temp in Orlando Fl is 110. And it is not a dry heat. AC is an essential.

I bet this guy loves Bezos and Zuckerberg, el al whose computer farms consume huge amounts of energy and throw off incredible amounts of heat that require air-conditioning to function. Anyway, does this dude have heat in his home, heat to cook, take vehicles on his trips to woke places to munch on brie and drink wine which take energy to produce and ship? If he really is concerned about the planet have him give his speeches to the Chinese and Indians who are throwing tons of filth into our atmosphere and oceans. Mumbai airports re closed every Wednesday when thousands of bodies are cremated outside. Have a look at satellite photos of the ocean surrounding China and leave us alone.

Louisiana, six months of the year, has temps in the high 90's and humidity just as high. A summer day of 98 degrees and 98% humidity is normal. Live in that weather without air conditioning. Then get back to me.

I remember being told as a child that I must clean my plate because children were starving in Africa as if that would help. Now as an adult I am told I must sweat because people in Africa are hot. Drop that thermostat anther couple of degrees please and we'll let Africa sort their own SH ** out.

I never lived in an AC home until after I went away to college. My dorms in Florida were nor AC, although some classes and a couple of dorms had AC.
Not going to give it up now for these ecocrazies.

The only positive I will state about not having air conditioners is this: before air conditioning, members of Congress had to call a recess every summer to avoid the humidity and heat of the former swampland of D.C. Now, they have AC, they can get into political mischief year round in the cool of their chambers.

Oh yeah try life in South Texas without AC. I grew up in San Antonio, jungle heat and humidity to match. Catholic school with a fan occasionally. Poor nuns sweating like horses in black habits. Yes, we survived but nobody is used to that anymore. This is one green idea that will never fly in the South!!

Has this "woke" dude EVER done any real work. By that, I mean work outdoors in soy bean fields and watermelon patches cutting and pulling weeds by hand? Has he ever snapped green beans for hours in an unairconditioned room? Has he ever hulled peas for hours in that same room? Has he ever picked and "slung" watermelons at harvest time? I have and it's bloody hot!
In the summer of 1988, when Bush 1 and Dukakis were fighting it out on the campaign trails, I was working to make money for college. I "walked" beans. The farmer and I would start at 5 a.m. and work until lunchtime because it was cooler -- in the middle of the worst drought since the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. The dew from the beans, which were waist high, would cover us from the waist down. From the waist up we were just hot. The first fear was that you were gonna die from the heat. The second fear was that you WERE NOT going to die and have to live in the misery.
So this idiot -- and I am using the nicest term I can think of cuz the words I would prefer would get me banned forever from this site -- can take his woke brain and shove it up his woke backside.
Do some REAL bloody work! And then come talk to me about air conditioning. What this "man child" does is NOT real work.

The earth will die someday when the sun becomes a red giant. Until then, man can't destroy it. Man can destroy himself, but the planet will go on.

And this doesn't even get into the massive ripoff that we have all been subjected to by the "ozone hole" insanity. It was never real, but it increased the cost of freon and of air conditioning unit tremendously.
Current refrigerants require much higher pressures, so the heat exchangers, piping and compressors are more expensive.
The "ozone hole" story was just another enviro-scam. It was never a real issue. And the key part of their fairy tale was "and the freon that excapes rises up into the atmosphere to the stratospere, where it destroys ozone". Can't happen.
A cubic foot of air at sea level weighs about 0.08 lbs. A cubic foot of Freon 22, which was used in home AC units back in those days, weighs just a touch under 80 lbs. And yet, according to the "ozone hole caused by freon" theory, that freon "rises up into the stratosphere".....yeah, sure, the same way granite boulders 'rise up to the surface of lakes'. Freon 22 gas is ~1,000 times heavier than air.

Without AC, the whole Southwest, South and Southern Cal can shut down. Why go live there if you can't have AC. AC is the main reason people can live in Florida, Arizona, Texas and the like. Also, how about the deaths from heat in all of our cities as a result of lack of AC? Jerks like Eric Dean don't look at the big picture. This must be a graduation assignment he wrote for some worthless degree.
