Gov. Tim Walz bypassed the Minnesota Legislature and banned conversion therapy in the state on Thursday. Walz and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan participated in a signing ceremony for an executive order on Thursday morning. Conversion therapy, also known as "reparative therapy," refers to a counseling practice that seeks to change a patient's gender or sexual orientation. (snip) The order will protect LGBTQ+ youth from conversion therapy, something the Republican-controlled Minnesota Senate has pushed back on.

I wonder if banning conversion therapy will apply to those who try to turn a boy into a girl; that's a pretty drastic, medically unsound conversion.

I am not saying I am in favor of conversion therapy. I am not. But why should it be banned for adults who want to undergo conversion therapy. We allow them to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Why can we not allow them to undergo the same thing psychologically? Let's say you're gay. But you don't want to be for whatever reason. How is it right to keep you -- a taxpaying, law-abiding adult -- from pursuing something you desire? Does being straight break any law? Does it harm anyone else? No. Might it harm you? Maybe. But how is that something a governor should decide? It's like plastic surgery for the soul. I may not like conversion therapy. But it should not be banned anymore than plastic surgery should be. Let adults make their own decisions about their own bodies. That is the argument some folks use with abortion. "My body. My choice." Of course, a fetus (i.e., unborn child) dies in the process, sometimes mutilatingly so. Bottom line: It ain't about choice, folks. It's about pushing a world view on others.

Minnesota state Sen. Foung Hawj was never a fan of the "Asian carp" label commonly applied to four imported fish species that are wreaking havoc in the U.S. heartland, infesting numerous rivers and bearing down on the Great Lakes. But the last straw came when an Asian business delegation arriving at the Minneapolis airport encountered a sign reading "Kill Asian Carp." It was a well-intentioned plea to prevent spread of the invasive fish. But the message was off-putting to the visitors.

"This is unfortunate, but given this is a girl-driven program and the majority of cookies are sold in-person, it was to be expected," said Kelly Parisi, a spokeswoman for Girl Scouts of the USA.

The report noted that federal health officials are considering whether they would update masking guidance, asking all Americans to wear masks indoors in public places. The White House would likely face strong pushback from vaccinated Americans
