There is no shortage of activity inside the Little Rhody Foods just outside Providence, Rhode Island. Every day, the food distribution center is bustling with activity as workers move as quickly as they can to pack and ship containers of drinks to all across New England.
But after making it through the pandemic, owner Eli Berkowitz was recently hit with another surprise: Rhode Island, where this business is located, was looking at the idea of taxing sugary drinks.
Berkowitz says a sugary drink tax could crush sales like a flattened aluminum can.

Well, why stop with sugary beverages? With masks now being discarded, the self-appointed nannies who want to control our behavior should also tax red meat, pasta, salt, fatty salad dressings, kids sweet cereals, bagels, orange juice, and more. Heck, the list of candidate foods for meddling could be the subjects of stern lectures and endless public service ads for years to come. What fun for the people who were born to be hall monitors.

Our founding fathers would have been shooting a long time ago. Everything under the sun is being double and triple taxed now. You can bet that the excuse will be public health, and not one dime of the taxes will get anywhere near that cause.

7/8 club soda (for the fizz). 1/8 cranberry grape juice. 100% juice, not "cocktails".
No sugar required, substitute the juice of your choice and lots of ice. No tax.

I'm sure there will be lots of soda sales right on the borders in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Sugary because most use corn syrup not sugar.
If it to decrease obesity why not tax obesity?
The tax would go to food banks and food-insecure families, why not they will probably be the ones most affected by the tax.

Another Democrat lie; they could care less about obesity/health and it will not affect these matters one iota. They want tax money, period, because like all Blue States, they overspend.

I agree, lets tax obesity. And I think we should add alcoholics and drug addicts to the tax. How about the mentally ill who cost a lot to care for. And my favorite is to tax criminals in prison or jail. Think of the money we could raise. My only problem is how do we tax obesity. Who determines what everyone in the country should weigh? Do we just make up a number and throw it out there and everyone has to reach that goal? Do we take into account anywhere for the differences in people, size, shape, health to begin with, medications that cause weight gain - I hope someone can figure all this out because obesity is the cause of all our problems, right?

The purpose of a tax is to get the money needed to run the government. However, liberals are now using taxes to manipulate and control people's behavior.

RI doesn't want to be accused of dissing Coca-Cola, so they ban ''sugared drinks.'' Thanks RI, we know who you mean. :)

Historically democrats and communists always loved nanny state policies, and used them to control citizens.
